Maltofer is an iron medicine that is used for ingestion.
[1]
Indications of the maltofer
The drug is used to treat people with iron deficiency anemia, and besides this, with a hidden lack of iron in the body.
In addition, it can be shown as a prophylaxis of the development of iron deficiency in people at risk (among them are elderly people, those who adhere to strict diets, pregnant women, and also teenagers with children who are in a period of intensive growth).

Release form
Produced in the form of oral drops or solution, and in addition as a syrup and tablets.
Drops are contained in vials of 10 or 30 ml. Inside one pack contains 1 bottle, closed with a special lid-dropper.
The oral solution is contained inside the glass vials (5 ml volume); Within a separate package contains 10 vials of medicine.
The syrup is available in glass bottles with a capacity of 75 or 150 ml. Inside a separate pack contains 1 bottle of syrup, as well as a measuring cap.
Chewable tablets are packed in blisters, in an amount of 10 pieces inside each. The pack contains 3 blister plates.
Pharmacodynamics
The drug contains iron (III) hydroxide polymaltosate, which prevents the processes of prooxidant effects of iron.
After the drug is absorbed into the circulatory system, iron ions are synthesized with the ferrite element. Further, iron begins to accumulate inside the body (mainly in the liver). This component is contained within myoglobin with hemoglobin, as well as other enzymes.
Pharmacokinetics
The level of absorption of iron depends on the dosage used, as well as the amount of iron already present inside the body. Thus, in the case of iron deficiency, the rate of absorption of this substance from the digestive tract becomes higher. Absorption of the drug is mainly carried out through the small intestine and duodenum intestine.
A certain amount of the drug, not absorbed into the circulatory system, is excreted with feces. The process of excretion of iron is rather slow, excretion is mainly carried out together with urine, and in addition with bile. Also excretion occurs during exfoliation of the gastrointestinal tract and cutaneous epithelium. A small part of the iron goes to women during menstruation.

Dosing and administration
Oral solution and drops. It is required to dissolve the indicated dosage of drugs in a small amount of juice or other non-alcoholic beverage.
The syrup should also be taken orally. The required dose is measured through a measuring cap. It is also allowed to dissolve the syrup in the juice or some other non-alcoholic beverage.

The duration of therapy, as well as the sizes of doses (regardless of the form of drugs used) are selected for each person separately; to do this should be a doctor in charge.
To eliminate iron deficiency anemia in premature infants, usually administered is 2.5-5 mg / kg once a day.
For infants up to 1 year (treatment of iron deficiency anemia), a medication is usually prescribed in the amount of 25-50 mg once a day. In the case of latent iron deficiency or as a prophylaxis for the development of iron deficiency, 15-25 mg of medication should be taken once a day.
For children 1-12 years (elimination of iron deficiency anemia), the dose is predominantly 50-100 mg of the drug once a day, while in the treatment of latent iron deficiency or in the prevention of deficit development, it is required to drink 25-50 mg of the drug once a day.
For adolescents from 12 years and adults (and lactating women) during the treatment of iron deficiency anemia, a single use of 100-300 mg of drugs is prescribed. When eliminating latent iron deficiency, and in addition, when taking prophylaxis, take 50-100 mg of medicine once a day.
Pregnant women suffering from iron-deficiency anemia often prescribe the use of 200-300 mg of LS once a day. To eliminate the latent iron deficiency or to prevent the development of the disease, it is required to drink 100 mg of medication once a day.
The duration of the therapeutic course when iron deficiency anemia is eliminated is often 5-7 months.
In the case of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women, it is recommended to drink the medicine until the time of delivery to restore the level of iron inside the body.
With the elimination of latent iron deficiency, the treatment course usually lasts 1-2 months.
Use of the maltofer during pregnancy
There is no information on the safety of drug use during the first trimester.
In the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, the medicine may be prescribed by the treating doctor, but only in cases where the likely benefit for a woman exceeds the likelihood of developing fetal adverse effects.

Contraindications
Contraindication to taking drugs is patient's intolerance of individual elements of the medicine.
In addition, it can not be prescribed in the presence of pigment cirrhosis or hemosiderosis in a person, but at the same time if the patient has problems with iron excretion (among such disorders thalassemia, sidero-sacrificial form of anemia, and anemia, triggered by intoxication with lead).
It is forbidden to use Maltofer and in the treatment of megaloblastic or hemolytic forms of anemia.
When using the drug in people with diabetes, it is necessary to remember that in 1 ml of oral drops contains 0.01 grain ED; inside the 1st tablet and 1 ml of syrup contains 0.04 bread-baking units; and in 5 ml of oral solution - contains 0.11 corn ED.
