Libeksin is an antitussive drug that corresponds to codeine in terms of its therapeutic effect. The medicine does not lead to addiction, and besides this, it does not suppress the implementation of respiratory processes.
It has a local anesthetic as well as a bronchodilating effect, which allows it to block the peripheral areas of the cough reflex. Its use helps to facilitate the processes of sputum discharge and respiration. [1]

The release of the medication is sold in tablets - 20 pieces inside a cell package.
Pharmacodynamics
The active component of the drug, prenoxdiazine hydrochloride, demonstrates antitussive activity through the following effects:
- local anesthetic effect weakens the excitability of peripheral cough endings;
- the bronchodilatory effect leads to the suppression of baroreceptors, which are participants in the development of the cough reflex;
- reduces the activity of the respiratory center, while not leading to respiratory depression.
The antitussive effect lasts over 3-4 hours.
Pharmacokinetics
The medication is almost complete, at high speed it is absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract; the level of protein synthesis is 57%. The Cmax values inside the blood are noted after 0.5 hours from the moment the tablet was used. The therapeutic indicators of drugs are maintained for a period of 7 hours.
The half-life is 2.5 hours. Metabolic processes are carried out mainly inside the liver.
Dosing and administration
Libeksin is prescribed to an adult at a dosage of 0.1 g, with 3-4 times a day; in severe conditions, you can use a portion of 0.2 g in the same multiplicity.
For a child, taking into account his age, dosages of up to 50 mg are prescribed, with 3 times a day.
The tablets must be swallowed whole without chewing.
- Application for children
For persons under 3 years of age, it is prohibited to use the medication in the indicated form of release.
Use Libexin during pregnancy
Pregnant women can use the medicine only with the appointment of a physician and only under his constant supervision.
Contraindications
The main contraindications:
- abundant production of secretions inside the respiratory tract;
- severe intolerance associated with the action of the drug;
- galactosemia;
- condition after the application of anesthesia through inhalation.
Side effects Libexin
Among the rare side symptoms: a tendency to develop constipation, stomach pain, nausea, xerostomia or dryness in the throat, as well as anesthesia of the oral mucosa.
In the case of the introduction of large doses, a slight sedation effect or increased fatigue may develop.
Interactions with other drugs
The medication is forbidden to be used in combination with mucolytics and expectorants, because this can lead to difficulty in the processes of sputum discharge.
Storage conditions
Libexin should be stored in a place protected from the penetration of small children. Temperature maximum - 25oC.
Shelf life
Libexin is allowed to be used within a 5-year period from the date of manufacture of the medicinal product.

The analogue of the drug is the Glauvent substance.
