Kanespor kit is an antifungal agent used to treat dermatological diseases.

Indications Canespora set

It is used to treat fungi that appear on fingernails and toenails. The drug performs atraumatic removal of affected nails and at the same time has an antimycotic effect.

Release form

The drug is released in the form of an ointment for external use, in tubes with a volume of 10 g. The kit also contains a dispenser, 15 waterproof patches and 1 nail scraper.

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of the drug, the substance bifonazole, is a derivative of the imidazole component, which has a wide range of antifungal effects. It demonstrates activity against mold, yeast and other fungi, as well as dermatophytes.

Bifonazole inhibits the processes of ergosterol biosynthesis at two separate levels, which distinguishes it from other azoles and fungicidal drugs, which have such an effect only at one level. Inhibition of ergosterol binding processes causes functional and structural disorders inside the cytoplasmic walls of pathogenic microbes.

The drug demonstrates a retarding effect on the activity of the described fungal forms at values of 0.062-16 μg/ml or lower. Bifonazole has a fungicidal effect on dermatophytes, including microbes that cause trichophytosis. A full fungicidal effect develops at values of approximately 5 μg/ml, with an exposure of 6 hours. With respect to yeast-type fungi (genus Candida), at values of 4 μg/ml, bifonazole mainly demonstrates a fungistatic effect, and at values of 20 μg/ml - a fungicidal effect.

The element bifonazole demonstrates medicinal efficiency even in cases when the causative bacteria are resistant to other antimycotics. Only in isolated cases in sensitive forms of fungi primary resistance to bifonazole is noted. During testing, no secondary resistance was detected in strains that demonstrated primary sensitivity.

Urea is a natural element found in the human body; it helps soften keratinized tissue. As a component of the ointment, it has a softening effect on the keratin of the affected nail, making it possible to get rid of the infected part painlessly and non-invasively.

In vitro tests have shown that urea increases the penetration depth of bifonazole into the infected nail. This allows us to conclude that the combination of bifonazole and urea potentiates the antifungal effect.

Dosing and administration

The infected nail must be treated once a day in an amount capable of covering its entire surface with a thin layer. The procedures must be carried out daily, continuing them until the softened nail can be removed. Often this continues for 1-2 weeks (the more precise duration depends on the thickness of the infected nail and the extent of the lesion).

The nail is treated until the bed is completely cleaned (usually this takes 7-14 days). If there is no result after this period (the nail bed does not become smooth, and the affected areas of the nail cannot be removed), you should consult a doctor.

The nail coated with ointment is sealed with the attached plaster for a day (24 hours); it must be replaced once a day. After removing it, the fingers with infected nails must be washed with warm water (the duration of this procedure is about 10 minutes), after which the softened affected part of the nail is removed with a scraper, and its remainder is dried.

The skin around the affected nail does not need to be covered with a plaster. However, since irritation may sometimes occur in this area, it is necessary to treat the edges of the epidermis surrounding the nail with zinc paste or another local anti-inflammatory drug (before fixing the plaster).

The Canespor ointment kit acts exclusively on nails infected with fungus, without affecting healthy areas.

Once the affected nail has been completely removed, it is necessary to visit a doctor before continuing antifungal therapy so that he can diagnose the final completion of onycholysis and perform a complete cleaning of the nail bed (if necessary).

After the infected nail has been completely removed, the nail bed should be treated with the cream from the same set – once a day, for approximately 1 month.

Use Canespora set during pregnancy

Preclinical tests conducted regarding the safety of the drug, as well as studies of the pharmacokinetics of the drug show that bifonazole when used in the Canespor kit during pregnancy does not have a negative effect on either the woman or the fetus. However, it is still recommended to refuse to use the drug in the 1st trimester.

There is no information on whether bifonazole or urea can penetrate into breast milk. Pharmacodynamic data, as well as toxicological information obtained from animal tests, demonstrate that bifonazole with its metabolic products is excreted in breast milk. For this reason, it is recommended to refrain from breastfeeding during therapy.

Contraindications

Contraindicated for use in people with allergies to bifonazole or other medicinal components.

Side effects Canespora set

Treatment of fungal infections of the nail area may cause tissue destruction in the epidermis and subcutaneous layers - on the nail bed or along its edges. They manifest themselves in the form of maceration, contact dermatitis, nail peeling, epidermal detachment, erythema, rash, nail discoloration, as well as skin irritation and pain. In addition, eczema, a feeling of heat in the affected area, urticaria, dry skin, blisters and swelling with pain in the area of drug use may occur. Such side effects disappear after the end of therapy.

Interactions with other drugs

There is information demonstrating that topical bifonazole may interact with warfarin. As a result of such a combination, INR values increase and the likelihood of bleeding increases. Therefore, when using bifonazole in people using warfarin, it is necessary to monitor the values of this parameter.

Storage conditions

The Kanespor kit must be kept in a place closed to small children. Temperature values should not exceed 30°C.

Shelf life

The Kanespor kit can be used within 36 months from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic agent. The shelf life of an opened tube is 90 days.

Application for children

Available clinical data allow us to conclude that the drug does not lead to the development of toxicity in children. However, it is recommended that people aged 1-3 years use the drug only under the supervision of a doctor.

Analogues

The analogues of the drug are the drugs Bifonal-Zdorovye and Bifunal.
