Indications Iodomarin 200

Iodomarin 200 is prescribed as a prophylactic agent after surgical removal of goiter to prevent relapse of the disease, after therapy with thyroid hormones, in case of insufficient iodine intake into the body with food and nutrition, in case of enlargement of the thyroid gland (in adults and children) without impairment of its function.

The drug is also recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women to prevent the development of iodine deficiency.

Release form

Iodomarin 200 is available in tablet form.

Pharmacodynamics

Iodomarin 200 consists of inorganic iodine, which, when it enters the thyroid gland, is oxidized and converted into elemental iodine and becomes part of the thyroid hormones, which helps to normalize its functions.

Pharmacokinetics

Iodomarin 200 is absorbed in the intestines fairly quickly after administration and penetrates into all tissues and fluids of the body. Iodine is excreted mainly by the kidneys, to a lesser extent by the lungs and with feces.

Dosing and administration

Iodomarin 200 should be taken as prescribed by a doctor in recommended doses.

For prevention, 1/2 - 1 tablet per day is prescribed; for newborns and children under 12 years old - 1/4 - 1/2 tablet per day.

Pregnant and lactating women: 1 tablet per day.

For prevention, the drug is usually taken for six months or more; it is often required to take it on a regular basis.

For the treatment of goiter (enlargement of the neck in the area of the Adam's apple), adults under 45 years of age are prescribed 1.5 - 2.5 tablets per day, newborns, children and adolescents - 1-2 tablets per day.

The course of treatment is from 2-4 weeks (for newborns) to 6 months or more (for children, adolescents and adults).

Use Iodomarin 200 during pregnancy

Pregnant women are recommended to take Iodomarin 200 only in prescribed doses. Iodine has the ability to penetrate the placenta and its excess can provoke developmental abnormalities and thyroid dysfunction in the fetus.

Contraindications

Iodomarin 200 is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to iodine preparations, hyperthyroidism, Duhring's disease, and toxic thyroid adenoma.

Side effects Iodomarin 200

Iodomarin 200, as a rule, does not cause side effects during prophylactic use, but in some cases, increased thyroid function and increased hormone levels are observed.

In rare cases, angioedema and other hypersensitivity reactions develop after taking the drug.

Also possible are manifestations of iodism (swelling of the nasal mucosa, urticaria, skin rashes, itching, anaphylactic shock, etc.), increased heart rate, tremors, irritability, sleep disturbances, increased sweating, pain in the digestive organs, diarrhea.

Use of the drug in high doses can provoke an increase in the level of thyroid hormones and goiter.

Overdose

Iodomarin 200 after exceeding the recommended dosage may cause a change in the color of the mucous membranes (darkening), vomiting (when eating food with starch, the vomit may be blue), abdominal pain, dehydration, shock. In some cases, there was a decrease in the lumen of the esophagus.

Fatalities have been reported after taking very high doses of the drug.

In some cases, iodine intoxication developed (metallic taste in the mouth, swelling and irritation of the mucous membranes).

Iodine in high doses can activate latent inflammatory processes (tuberculosis).

Nervous overexcitement, acne or bullous rashes, and fever are possible.

Interactions with other drugs

Iodomarin 200 should be taken with caution with drugs containing lithium or potassium-retaining drugs (diuretics), as there is a risk of developing goiter, increased potassium levels in the blood, and increased thyroid function.

Salts and esters of chloric acid and potassium salt of thiocyanic acid reduce the absorption of iodine by the thyroid gland, while drugs with thyroid-stimulating hormones increase it.

When taken simultaneously with antithyroid drugs (prescribed to treat hyperthyroidism), a mutual weakening effect is observed.
