Cholera is endemic in many countries. Cholera vaccination is carried out when there is a risk of importation in border areas. Two cholera vaccines are used.
The bivalent chemical cholera vaccine in tablets is a mixture of choleragen-anatoxin obtained from formalin-inactivated broth culture of cholera vibrio 569B or 569 (KM-76) serovar Inaba, and O-antigens obtained from broth cultures of cholera vibrio 569B or 569 (KM-76) serovar Inaba and M-41 serovar Ogawa, by isolation, purification and concentration with ammonium sulfate. Tablet filler - sugar, starch, talc, calcium stearate. Tablet shell made of acetylphthalyl cellulose. Cholera vaccination is carried out from the age of 2 years. One vaccination dose consists of three tablets. Tablet - grayish-yellow mass, covered with a shiny acid-resistant shell, tasteless and odorless. Release form: in vials containing 210 tablets (70 human doses). The vaccine is stored in a dark place at a temperature of 0-10°. Shelf life is 3 years.
The dose of cholera vaccine tablets for vaccinating an adult is 3 tablets, for teenagers aged 11-17 years - 2 tablets, for children aged 2-10 years - 1 tablet. The tablets are taken orally 1 hour before meals, swallowing them whole, without chewing, with boiled water. This provides antibacterial, antitoxic and local intestinal immunity lasting up to 6 months. Revaccination is carried out 6-7 months after the primary vaccination.
Reaction to the introduction and contraindications to the cholera vaccination
The cholera vaccine in tablets does not cause a general (temperature) reaction. 1-2 hours after administration, unpleasant sensations and pain in the epigastric region, rumbling in 0.2% of cases, a single mushy stool may occur.
