Indications Indapen
It is used in the treatment of people with various types of hypertension.
Release form
The product is sold in tablets, which are packed in blister packs of 10 pieces. Inside the box there are 2, 3 or 6 packs.
Indapen sr
Indapen sr is available in 14 or 15 tablets in a blister strip. The pack contains 2 or 4 strips.
Pharmacodynamics
The constituent element of Indapen is the substance indapamide, a thiazide-like diuretic.
This element reduces the contractile activity of the vascular layer of smooth muscles by influencing the transmembrane process of ion exchange, and in addition by stimulating the binding of PG E2.
The use of the drug leads to a gradual decrease in blood pressure. Indapamide has a more pronounced antihypertensive effect than a diuretic one; at the same time, it should be noted that a decrease in blood pressure values is observed only in people with hypertension.
At the same time, the drug helps to reduce left ventricular hypertrophy. The drug does not have a pronounced effect on glucose metabolism and lipid status.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, the drug is well absorbed, entering the intestine. Peak values in the blood plasma are noted after 1-2 hours after taking the drug.
About 75% of the medicinal element undergoes protein synthesis within the plasma. The drug reaches equilibrium values by the 4th day of treatment.
The active substance of the drug is excreted mainly through the kidneys, in the form of inactive metabolic products, and approximately 20-30% is excreted through the intestines. The half-life is approximately 15 hours.
Dosing and administration
The medicine is taken orally, without regard to food intake. It is usually recommended to take the entire daily dose at once – often this is done in the morning.
The duration of the treatment cycle and the size of the dosage portions are selected by the attending physician.
Usually, one tablet of the drug is taken per day. Its use for long-term therapy is allowed.
During treatment with drugs, it is necessary to constantly monitor the indicators of magnesium with calcium and sodium with potassium in the plasma, and also to adjust the values of EBV, if necessary.

Use Indapen during pregnancy
During pregnancy, the drug is used only in cases where safer analogues have not produced the desired effect.
Nursing women should refrain from breastfeeding while using the drug.
Contraindications
Main contraindications:
- diagnosed intolerance to indapamide and other medications from the sulfonamide category;
- use in people with severe renal insufficiency, which is also accompanied by anuria;
- appointment to people with hepatic encephalopathy, liver dysfunction (severe degree), hypokalemia, and also with thyroid dysfunction.
The drug should be used with great caution in diabetics or people with gout (it is allowed to be taken only under the condition of regular monitoring of glucose and uric acid levels).
Caution is required when using Indapen in athletes, because its use can provoke false positive results during doping control.
People operating potentially dangerous machinery and drivers also need to exercise caution when using it.
Side effects Indapen
The medication is usually tolerated by patients without negative consequences, but the possibility of side effects during treatment cannot be ruled out. Among the symptoms:
- disorders affecting the digestive function: nausea, dry mouth, bowel disorders, pancreatitis, increased activity of liver enzymes and vomiting. In people with liver failure, there is an increased likelihood of liver encephalopathy (if the patient has symptoms of this disease, it is necessary to stop using the drug and carry out appropriate therapeutic procedures);
- lesions in the area of the heart, blood vessels and hematopoietic system: orthostatic collapse, hemolytic or aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia or leukopenia, as well as agranulocytosis;
- disorders of the nervous system: dizziness, paresthesia, as well as headaches and asthenia;
- laboratory test results: increased levels of calcium, uric acid, glucose, plasma lipid levels, and in addition, decreased plasma levels of magnesium with sodium and potassium;
- Allergy symptoms: urticaria, maculopapular rashes and angioedema.
Also, during treatment with the drug, people with SLE may experience an exacerbation of the manifestations of this pathology.

Overdose
The use of Indapen in doses significantly exceeding the optimal recommended doses leads to vomiting, pain in the epigastric region and asthenia in patients, as well as to suppression of respiratory activity, disturbances in EBV indicators and a decrease in blood pressure.
The drug has no antidote. In case of poisoning, gastric lavage should be performed and the patient should be given enterosorbents. Also, in case of overdose, it is necessary to monitor the EBV values and control diuresis, and also adjust the electrolyte levels, if necessary. At the same time, in case of intoxication, procedures are performed to support the respiratory function and the activity of the cardiovascular system.
Interactions with other drugs
Indapen cannot be combined with other medications that potentiate the process of potassium excretion.
It is prohibited to combine the drug with pentamidine, halofantrine, astemizole and terfenadine, as well as with erythromycin (parenteral) and vincamine.
Combination with neuroleptics, baclofen or tricyclics causes potentiation of the antihypertensive properties of the drug.
Use together with ACE inhibitors leads to an increased risk of acute renal failure, as well as a decrease in blood pressure.
Concomitant use of the drug with metformin may cause lactic acidosis.
The medication increases the likelihood of hypercalcemia when combined with calcium medications.
Indapen can enhance the toxicity of lithium and digitalis preparations.
The drug should be combined with caution with antiarrhythmic drugs, cyclosporine, iodine-containing radiocontrast agents and non-narcotic anti-inflammatory drugs.
