Pharmacodynamics

It is believed that gluten from mallow flowers and plantain leaves, as well as aucubin, are extremely important in providing the therapeutic effect of Herbion.

Because the syrup contains gluten from medicinal extracts, it acts as a mucous agent in the case of irritating dry cough that develops with inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. The adhesive element creates a thin protective film on the oral and throat mucosa, mechanically protecting the mucous walls from irritants that provoke the cough reflex. As a result, cough associated with irritation of the respiratory mucosa, which occurs due to inflammation caused by external irritants, is weakened. [ 2 ]

Vitamin C is involved in a large number of metabolic processes within the body. The substance stimulates immune activity and also helps to heal cells.

  • GERD, including hyperacid gastritis, reflux esophagitis, and also ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • renal pathologies of a severe nature.

Side effects Herbion

Side effects include:

  • immune disorders: Quincke's edema, signs of intolerance (urticaria, itching or eczema), and anaphylaxis. Element E218 can also cause allergy symptoms (sometimes they appear late);
  • problems with the functioning of the nervous system: headaches;
  • disorders of kidney and urinary tract function: in case of taking a daily dose of vitamin C, which is 1000 mg, kidney stones are formed, oxaluria or damage to the renal tubules develops;
  • Blood disorders: Use of 1000 mg daily of vitamin C in people with G6PD deficiency may cause red blood cell hemolysis.

If severe adverse effects occur, therapy should be discontinued.

Overdose

Vitamin C is usually well tolerated. It is a water-soluble substance, and its excess is excreted in the urine. Intoxication can provoke a change in the renal excretion of uric acid and vitamin C during urine acetylation, which also leads to the risk of oxalate stones. The use of high doses of vitamin C can cause heartburn, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, which disappear after the drug is discontinued.

Symptomatic actions are performed.

Significantly exceeding the recommended doses (more than 1000 mg of vitamin C per day) can lead to sleep disorders, fatigue, renal failure, copper-zinc metabolism disorders, and also to severe excitability, fever, neutrophilia or erythrocytopenia.

Long-term use of large doses of vitamin C can suppress the work of the pancreatic insular system, which is why it is necessary to monitor its function. In addition, in the case of consuming large doses of ascorbic acid, it is necessary to monitor blood pressure values, because it stimulates the formation of corticosteroid hormones.

Symptomatic measures are carried out.

Interactions with other drugs

Administration of vitamin C with aluminum-containing antacids may result in increased excretion of Al in the urine. This combination should not be used, especially in people with a history of renal disease.

The absorption of Fe is enhanced by the administration of vitamin C.

Use in combination with deferoxamine leads to iron excretion. Large doses of vitamin C in people who use deferoxamine can lead to cardiac pathologies (for example, CHF or cardiomyopathy). With such a combination, the daily dosage of vitamin C should be a maximum of 0.2 g, and in addition, cardiac activity should be closely monitored. It is prohibited to prescribe vitamin C to people with CHF who are taking deferoxamine. Also, ascorbic acid should not be administered during the first month of deferoxamine therapy.

The use of vitamin C in a 1000 mg serving slows the disulfiram-ethanol reaction in people with alcoholism who take disulfiram.

The use of the vitamin causes a weakening of the absorption of amphetamine due to the effect on gastric pH values.

Systemic clearance of ethanol increases when combined with ascorbic acid.

Large doses of the vitamin lead to a disorder of renal excretion of mexiletine (because the urinary pH index changes). It is necessary to carefully monitor people who combine mexiletine with large doses of ascorbic acid.

Gerbion should be stored in a place out of reach of small children. Temperature indicators should not exceed 25°C.
