The use of Halopril eliminates hallucinations, mania, persistent personality changes, delirium, increases interest in the environment. The drug also has an antipyretic, analgesic and anticonvulsant effect. Another effect that Halopril has is changing the concentration of dopamine.
Pharmacokinetics
When taken orally, Halopril is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract by 60%, absorbed mainly in the small intestine. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is achieved when taken orally after 3-6 hours, and after 10-20 minutes when administered intramuscularly. Halopril binds to proteins by 92% and is actively metabolized in the liver. The drug is excreted by the kidneys and with bile through the intestines, and is also excreted in breast milk.
Dosing and administration
The drug is used only orally and intramuscularly. The intramuscular dose for adults is 5-10 mg (the maximum daily dose is 30-40 mg). Tablets and oral solution for adults are prescribed in an average daily dose of 2.25 - 18 mg half an hour before meals, increasing it until a stable therapeutic effect is achieved. For elderly patients - 0.5-2 mg 2-3 times a day. For children, the dose is calculated based on body weight, but not more than 25-75 mcg per day in 2-3 doses orally.

Galopril is contraindicated in pregnant women and during breastfeeding. Since it is excreted in breast milk in sufficient concentration, it has been established that the drug can cause a sedative effect and impaired motor functions in a nursing child.
Contraindications
Contraindications for use are individual intolerance or hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, diseases of the central nervous system, depression, hysteria. The drug cannot be used if the patient is in a coma of various origins. As already mentioned, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Halopril is contraindicated in Parkinson's syndrome. If the patient has severe renal and hepatic dysfunction, cardiovascular diseases, or allergic reactions to antipsychotics in the anamnesis, Halopril also cannot be used.
Side effects Halopril
Galopril has quite a large number of side effects. When used in high doses, the cardiovascular system may react with arterial hypotension, tachycardia, arrhythmia, and the digestive system with decreased appetite, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, liver dysfunction up to the development of jaundice.
Headache, dizziness, insomnia or, conversely, drowsiness may occur. The patient may experience a state of anxiety, restlessness, psychomotor agitation, fear, euphoria, depression. From the respiratory system, this may be a violation of the breathing rhythm, shortness of breath, pneumonia. And from the genitourinary system, urinary retention, menstrual irregularities, decreased potency, increased libido.
Less common are side effects from the hematopoietic system, organs of vision, and allergic reactions in the form of skin rashes.
As with any injection, local tissue reactions may occur at the injection site. Weight gain, heat stroke.
Overdose
Overdose of Halopril may cause drowsiness and lethargy. Patients in a coma need to support the respiratory system and, if necessary, connect to an artificial respiration apparatus. If severe arterial hypotension or circulatory failure occurs, it is necessary to administer a sufficient amount of fluid, plasma or blood intravenously. Symptomatic therapy for overdose is gastric lavage or inducing vomiting.
Interactions with other drugs
When used simultaneously with drugs that have a depressant effect on the central nervous system, respiratory depression and a decrease in pressure are possible. In combination with anticonvulsants, a change in the type or frequency of epileptiform seizures is possible. If propranolol is used simultaneously, severe arterial hypotension is possible, as well as a decrease in concentration.
Simultaneous use with indomethacin leads to drowsiness and confusion. The rate of metabolism of Halopril increases if it is used together with carbamazepine, which is an inducer of liver microsomal enzymes.
Halopril enhances the effect of drugs that lower blood pressure, so the combination of Halopril with such drugs should be strictly controlled.
When used simultaneously with methyldopa, sedative effects, depression, dementia, confusion, dizziness may occur; when used with morphine, myoclonus may develop; with rifampicin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, a decrease in the concentration of haloperidol in the blood plasma is possible.
Halopril may reduce the effect of indirect anticoagulants, therefore, when used simultaneously with bupropion, the epileptic threshold decreases and the risk of epileptic seizures increases. The dose of these drugs should be adjusted when used together.
Halopril may decrease the effects of bromocriptine.
Drinking strong tea or coffee (especially in large quantities) reduces the effect of Galopril.
Storage conditions
Important storage conditions for Galopril are temperature conditions and protection from sunlight. The optimal storage temperature for Galopril is 15-30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
