Hyalgan is a corrector of metabolic processes within cartilage and bone tissue. Its use helps to relieve pain and reduce the degree of inflammation. Improvement in the condition of patients is observed for another 6 months after the treatment.

The drug contains sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, the molecular weight of this molecule inside the drug is 500-730 kDa. The active ingredient substance is a highly purified substance. The medicinal liquid is sterile and apyrogenic. [ 1 ]

Indications Gialgan

It is used for the following disorders:

  • osteoarthritis;
  • joint changes associated with previous injuries;
  • the need to eliminate pain due to joint damage;
  • the need to improve joint mobility;
  • the need to use auxiliary orthopedic substances.

Release form

The product is sold in the form of a ready-to-inject liquid, inside 2 ml vials, 5 pieces inside a pack. The kit also contains 5 2 ml syringes equipped with protective caps and needles.

Pharmacodynamics

Hyaluronan allows to compensate for the deficiency of synovium, the matrix of the joint apparatus. Due to the stabilization of the volume of hyaluronic acid in the area of the internal space, the viscosity of the synovium is normalized and its elasticity is potentiated.

Hyaluronan helps bind proteoglycan molecules within cartilage tissues. It is essential to facilitate the passage of exogenous hyaluronan to replenish the deficiency of internal molecules during osteoarthritis, when there is a significant deficiency of this element and changes in the qualitative composition of the synovial cerebrospinal fluid occur. [ 2 ]

Intra-joint administration of Hyalgan allows for a high bioavailability rate. With regular use of the drug, the functional activity of the cartilage improves.

Pharmacokinetics

Hyaluronan effectively participates in metabolic processes, is quickly destroyed in the liver, and is also quickly excreted from the bloodstream. Metabolic components are mainly excreted in the urine.

Approximately 42% of the administered dose is noted inside the liver after 24 hours from the moment of injection. The drug is registered inside the synovium within 2 hours, and inside the joint cartilage within 6 hours. Cartilage is the most common location of hyaluronan. This element is preserved inside the synovium for 4-5 days.

Dosing and administration

The medicine should be administered inside the joints – for example, in the pelvic or knee area. The dosage is 1 bottle of medicine or 1 syringe. The procedure should be performed once a week. The entire treatment cycle includes 5 injections.

Before the injection, the effusion is removed from the cavity of the intra-articular bag. Then the patient's anatomical structure is assessed. After this, the needle is inserted and some aspiration of the synovium is performed. The drug should be administered at a very low speed, in accordance with the standard instructions.

One needle can be used to remove the effusion and to give the injection. In this case, insert the needle, remove the fluid through the syringe, and then insert the syringe with the medicine and inject it into the joint. If the patient develops pain, stop the injection. Air must not enter the cavity of the joint, needle, or syringe. Do not store the medicine that was not used for the injection.

  • Application for children

The drug is prohibited for use in pediatrics.

Use Gialgan during pregnancy

There is no reliable information regarding the safety of using the drug during pregnancy, so it is not prescribed during this period.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to hyaluronan, avian protein or additive elements of the drug;
  • severe forms of liver disease;
  • infections located in the injection area;
  • epidermal damage in the injection area.

Side effects Gialgan

Side effects develop occasionally. Among them:

  • transient pain;
  • local swelling;
  • anaphylaxis;
  • itching;
  • hives;
  • increased volume of exudate in the cavity inside the joints;
  • rashes;
  • hyperthermia in the injection area;
  • local hyperemia associated with the injection.

It is necessary to relieve the affected joint; if symptoms develop that are not associated with signs of allergy, ice is applied to it.

Interactions with other drugs

Intra-articular injections should not be performed in combination with other medications, as there is too little information regarding the interaction of substances with hyaluronan and other medications.

It is prohibited to use preparations containing quaternary ammonium salts before and after the Hyalgan injection procedure, because they can destroy the structure of hyaluronan.

Storage conditions

Hyalgan should be stored at temperatures no higher than 25°C. Freezing the medicine is prohibited.

Shelf life

Hyalgan can be used for a period of 3 years from the date of manufacture of the drug.

Analogues

The analogs of the drug are the drugs Nimika, Rinzasip with Metamizole, Gumizol and Solpadeine with Mirlox, and also Ibuclin, Dolac, Rapten with Naizilate and Piralgin. In addition, the list includes Benalgin, Rinicold, Mig, Kofitsil with Biopin, Larifix and Maxigan.
