Overdose
When used in recommended therapeutic doses, the risk of intoxication is minimal.
Overdose can develop due to the medicinal effect of benzocaine. With systemic absorption of this element, which results in intoxication, a feeling of excitement, drowsiness or anxiety develops, and in severe poisoning, convulsions appear.
There is evidence that the use of drugs containing benzocaine can provoke the development of methemoglobinemia (its symptoms are listed above). In the event of the development of signs similar to methemoglobinemia, you should immediately contact a doctor, because this disorder can potentially be life-threatening for the patient.
Emergency treatment procedures for intoxication and the appearance of methemoglobinemia - intravenous injection of methylene blue. In case of other signs of poisoning, it is necessary to stop using the drug and carry out symptomatic measures.
Interactions with other drugs
The drug should not be prescribed (in the absence of vital indications and medical supervision) in combination with antidepressants, MAOIs and antihypertensive drugs, because this can theoretically provoke a weakening of the effectiveness of MAOIs or potentiation of the properties of antihypertensive drugs. These violations are associated with the fact that the drugs interact with benzocaine when the standard dosages and duration of use are significantly exceeded.
