Gelusil-lac is a medicine used to eliminate acid-dependent pathologies.
Pharmacodynamics
Gelusil-lac has adsorbent, antacid and enveloping properties. The active ingredient is magnesium aluminum silicate hydrate, which neutralizes increased volumes of hydrochloric acid, and at the same time forms a thin protective film on the surface of the gastrointestinal mucosa.
Helps to establish physiological balance inside the stomach, and also prevents reactive production of hydrochloric acid.
The medicine does not affect the mobility of the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore does not lead to the development of diarrhea or constipation. It begins to act quickly, and the effect lasts for a long time.
Pharmacokinetics
Polyvalent aluminum and magnesium ions are almost not absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract, being excreted through the kidneys in the form of oxides or carbonates of an insoluble nature.
Large doses of the drug do not increase the values of aluminum and magnesium in the blood plasma, although this increases the excretion of these components with urine.
Dosing and administration
The medicine should be taken in a dosage of 3-6 tablets per day. It is necessary to chew or dissolve 1 tablet 1-2 hours after eating. Do not dissolve them in water or other drinks.
Use Gelusila-laca during pregnancy
Since the active element of the drug has a low level of absorption inside the gastrointestinal tract, it has no teratogenic effect. This allows Gelusil-lac to be prescribed with caution to pregnant or nursing mothers.
Contraindications
Main contraindications:
- the presence of intolerance to the medication and its components;
- severe renal dysfunction.
Side effects Gelusila-laca
Taking the tablets may cause diarrhea or constipation. People with kidney problems may develop hypermagnesemia.

Overdose
Due to the poor absorption of the drug, the probability of intoxication is quite low. However, if the dosage is increased or the therapy is prolonged, hypophosphaturia or hypophosphatemia may occur.

Interactions with other drugs
Use together with allopurinol may reduce its medicinal activity (increases the level of uric acid in the urine).
In addition, the combination of Gelusil-lac with such drugs as diclofenac, iron medications, metronidazole with ketoconazole, and tetracycline with ciprofloxacin, inhibits their resorption. That is why it is necessary to observe an interval of at least 2 hours between the use of these medications.

Gelusil varnish should be stored in a dark and dry place, out of reach of children. Temperature values are within the range of 15-25°C.

Gelusil-lac can be used for 5 years from the date of manufacture of the medicinal product.
Application for children
It is prohibited to prescribe the medicine to persons under 10 years of age.
