Indications Gaviscon lemon tablets
The drug Gaviscon lemon tablets is used in gastroenterology for the symptomatic treatment of acid-dependent digestive disorders ( dyspepsia ), accompanied by the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus ( gastroesophageal reflux ), which manifests itself as heartburn, sour belching and discomfort in the stomach after eating.
To eliminate heartburn, this drug can be used in the treatment of patients with peptic ulcer disease, chronic pancreatitis, chronic hyperacid or normacid gastritis, as well as with functional dyspepsia syndrome without signs of gastritis.

Release form
Gaviscon is available in the form of lemon-flavoured chewable tablets. Each tablet contains 250 mg of sodium alginate (E401); 133.5 mg of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda); 80 mg of calcium carbonate (calcium carbonate), as well as excipients, including sweeteners - potassium acesulfame (E950) and aspartame (E951) - and lemon flavouring.
Pharmacodynamics
The symptomatic effect of the antacid Gaviscon in tablets is based on the neutralization of hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice. After oral administration, the salts in the drug interact with the acid. And under the action of the thickener and stabilizer sodium alginate, which forms colloidal solutions in water, a jelly-like substance is formed in the stomach. It envelops the contents of the stomach and, in gastroesophageal reflux, prevents irritation of the mucous membrane, causing heartburn.
This protective effect after a single dose in the recommended dose lasts more than three hours. At the same time, the acidic environment is maintained in the stomach, which does not disrupt the physiological process of digestion.
Dosing and administration
Adults and children over 12 years of age are prescribed Gaviscon lemon tablets in the following dosage: 2-4 tablets after each meal and before bedtime. The drug is taken orally, chewing thoroughly. For children under 12 years of age, the dosage regimen is determined by the doctor.
