Diseases of the digestive system, including common stomach disorders accompanied by nausea and diarrhea, are considered to be among the most common health pathologies in the adult population of our planet. But this does not mean that children do not have such problems. However, adult medications are unlikely to suit them, and the children's homeopathic drug "Gastrokind" will help small patients avoid unpleasant sensations after eating.

Indications Gastrokind

The drug was created specifically for use in pediatrics. It is used to treat various digestive disorders in children. The age of patients ranges from 1 to 6 years, but there is an opinion that it can be safely given to newborns and infants after prior consultation with a pediatrician and homeopath.

"Gastrokind" is intended to relieve unpleasant symptoms such as bowel disturbances, flatulence and abdominal pain in infants, which can be caused by two reasons:

  • due to a violation of the diet,
  • as a result of a change in the type of nutrition (transition from breastfeeding to formula, replacement of formula with another, introduction of complementary foods).

The drug is also effective for functional disorders of the digestive system in children, which are accompanied by nausea, sometimes with bouts of vomiting, more often diarrhea, and less often constipation.

Release form

"Gastrokind" is a drug developed on the basis of homeopathic remedies effective in disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. It is a multi-component homeopathic drug, but all its components are safe for small patients, and the dilutions are selected in such a way as to bring maximum benefit with a minimum of restrictions.

The preparation contains 4 main homeopathic components, which are the active ingredients of the preparation:

  • Okoubaka aubrevillei (a remedy made from the bark of a West African tropical tree, effective against diarrhea) in a D4 dilution.
  • Croton tiglium (tincture of the seeds of a plant from the spurge family called croton, used to relieve various symptoms of indigestion, including abdominal pain and discomfort, belching, nausea and vomiting, has a laxative effect) in potency D6.
  • Arsenicum album (a “white metal”, safe in small concentrations, which is prescribed for various gastrointestinal pathologies due to its antiseptic, antibacterial, analgesic and anti-allergenic effects) in a D6 dilution.
  • Veratrum album (tincture of hellebore roots, reducing pain in the epigastric region and dyspeptic symptoms, normalizing stool) in potency D12.

All active ingredients are taken in the amount of 20 mg, some of them contain lactose. Talc (a source of magnesium and silicon), monocrystalline cellulose (an ideal option for cleansing the body and improving bowel function), magnesium stearate (to facilitate mixing of substances and giving shape to tablets) are used as auxiliary elements.

Release form. The drug is released in the form of flat-cylindrical homeopathic tablets of white color with a chamfer along the entire perimeter. The tablets are packaged in jars (bottles) of dark glass. Each bottle, placed in a separate cardboard package, contains 150 tablets.

The large number of tablets in the package is due to the fact that "Gastrokind", like any homeopathic medicine, needs to be taken in large quantities: from 4 to 6 tablets per day. And if you consider that tummy problems in babies are quite common, and the shelf life of the drug is considerable, such packaging is considered optimal in pediatric practice.

Pharmacodynamics

The main pharmacological properties of the drug are determined by the main homeopathic and auxiliary components included in its composition.

The drug normalizes the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, effectively combats pain in the abdomen (abdominal pain), regulates stool during diarrhea or constipation, relieves such unpleasant symptoms as bloating due to increased gas formation, belching, nausea and vomiting.

Monocrystalline cellulose prepares the gastrointestinal tract for better absorption of the beneficial components of the tablets, and talc helps replenish minerals lost during vomiting and diarrhea.

Pharmacokinetics

There are no data on the pharmacokinetics of Gastrokind in the instructions for the drug. This is due to the fact that in multicomponent drugs it is almost impossible to track the movement of each component along the digestive tract and the processes occurring with it. The elimination of the drug from the body will also be progressive.

Dosing and administration

According to the official instructions, children aged 1-6 years with acute symptoms should be given the drug during the day with an interval of 1 hour between tablets. A single dose of the drug is 1 tablet. The maximum (and recommended) daily dose is 6 tablets.

When the severity of symptoms decreases and their number is reduced, the drug is used in a daily dosage of 4 tablets (the single dose remains the same).

The duration of treatment can vary from 3 to 6 days.

It is recommended to take homeopathic tablets half an hour before meals, but you can also do this after meals, again after half an hour.

Homeopathic doctors recommend holding any homeopathic remedy in the mouth for a while before swallowing. Tablets should be sucked until they dissolve. But such treatment is not very suitable for children under 2-3 years old.

For very young patients, there is another way to use the tablets. They are simply crushed and dissolved in a small amount of water or tea (this can be done in a teaspoon), after which the baby is given to swallow.

In the same way, with the consent of the pediatrician, the drug is given to infants up to 1 year old. And the effective and safe dosage is determined by a homeopathic doctor.

Use Gastrokind during pregnancy

The use of the drug "Gastrokind" during pregnancy is considered inappropriate, since it is designed specifically for the treatment of small children, but not adults. For the same reason, its ability to affect the reaction rate, which is taken into account when working with mechanisms and driving a car, is not considered.

Contraindications

Contraindications to taking homeopathic medicines are usually associated with the individual reaction of the body to the components of the medicine. This is the case with the medicine for indigestion in children "Gastrokind".

The drug is not used to treat children who are predisposed to allergic reactions, as this may cause hypersensitivity reactions to the components of the drug.

It is also considered incorrect to use the drug in the treatment of children who have problems with the absorption of lactose. The list of such patients may include children with insufficient lactase production, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome and such a congenital pathology as galactosemia, characterized by disorders of galactose metabolism.

The official instructions for the drug indicate that the drug is not used to treat digestive disorders in children under 1 year of age, but this is not so much due to the safety of the drug as to its form of release, which is considered inconvenient for infants.

Side effects Gastrokind

According to statistics, the drug is generally well tolerated by the majority of patients. However, there have been cases of allergic reactions. These are mainly external manifestations, such as itching of the skin or rashes in the form of hives.

Allergic reactions appeared against the background of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.

If taking the drug causes a deterioration in the condition of the little patient (which sometimes happens in the first days of using the drug), side effects that are not typical of "Gastrokind" appear, this is a reason to contact the doctor again so that he can reconsider his prescription (adjust the dose or replace the drug with another with a similar therapeutic effect). The same is recommended if there is no improvement in the child's condition within 3 days from the start of therapy with the drug.

Overdose

Homeopathic medicines are usually produced and prescribed in a dosage that does not harm the health of the patient, be it an adult or a child. The instructions for the medicines indicate the maximum permissible dose for each age.

If for some reason the baby received a dose of the indigestion drug "Gastrokind" that exceeds the permissible norms, this does not pose a danger to life. But the likelihood of developing side effects of the drug increases, which leads to allergic reactions.

Overdose therapy is symptomatic, aimed at reducing allergic manifestations. There is no antidote to the drug, but it is not required.

Interactions with other drugs

As for the drug interaction of Gastrokind with other drugs, there is no such information in the official instructions. However, it is indicated that the use of the drug does not exclude parallel therapy of various pathologies with other drugs, which, however, is typical for most homeopathic drugs.

Storage conditions

The medicine should be stored in a place where children have limited access, at room temperature not exceeding 25 degrees.

Shelf life

The shelf life is 5 years, after which the use of a homeopathic remedy for digestive disorders in children is considered unacceptable.
