People with diseases of the digestive system know very well how important it is to not only treat the diseased organs of the gastrointestinal tract, but also to protect their mucous membrane from the harmful effects of various irritants that can cause relapses of the disease. One of such effective drugs-protectors of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract is the drug "Gastrofarm".
Indications Gastropharm
The need to use drugs that protect the mucous membrane of the digestive organs from irritation arises in the following cases:
- In gastritis with a high level of acidity of gastric juice, which is a known irritant due to the high content of hydrochloric acid. Taking the drug will have a positive effect, both in acute pathology and in the case of chronic course of the disease.
- Ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum, in which protection of the mucous membrane is the main condition for its restoration and prevention of dangerous complications, such as ulcer perforation.
- Increased acidity of gastric juice not associated with pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract.
Irritation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines can be caused not only by hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice, but also by some medications taken orally. As a result of their use (especially long-term), there is a high probability of developing the same gastritis, duodenitis or ulcer of the stomach and duodenum.
"Gastrofarm" will protect the mucous membrane from the irritating effects of drugs and help prevent dangerous complications.
Eating food that increases the level of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and increases its secretion, eating dry food, certain food preferences, drinking alcohol and smoking can also have a negative effect on the condition of the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, and on the work of the gastrointestinal tract in general. To avoid this, it is recommended to take "Gastrofarm" as a preventive measure as a means effective in preventing many diseases of the digestive system.

Release form
The drug "Gastrofarm" has only one form of release - tablets (6 pieces in one blister, 6, 12 or 18 pieces in a package). At the same time, the tablets are a little unusual, although they have a familiar round shape. They are unusual not only because of the color (from beige to light brown, slightly lighter than the well-known "Citramon", with small light inclusions, which gives the tablets a certain marbling) and a fairly large size (2.5 cm in diameter with a risk), but also an unusual composition, reminiscent of the composition of bacterial starters.
Sweet and sour-tasting tablets contain a special substance of dried, but viable and reproducible cells of lactobacilli LB-51 (Lactobacillus delbrueckii spp. Bulgaricus strain 51). In addition to the cellular material, the tablets contain active products of bacterial activity.
The tablets also include stearic acid (to improve mixing of the various components in the tablets and to give the medicinal mixture the required form) and sucrose (to improve taste) as additional components.
Pharmacodynamics
The high protein content (about 30-35%), produced mainly by LB-51, as well as substances that these bacteria produce during their lifetime, provides the therapeutic and protective effect of the drug in relation to the gastrointestinal mucosa, which makes the drug effective for gastritis and gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Among the products of the vital activity of bacteria present in the composition of the drug "Gastrofarm", you can notice many substances necessary for our body. These are lactic, malic and nucleic acids DNA and RNA. In addition, bacteria produce polysaccharides and polypeptides, as well as some alpha-amino acids useful for the human body.
Due to this composition, the drug has a protective effect on the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, due to which the recovery processes in these organs proceed faster and more effectively. The presence of a large amount of protein in the drug provides an analgesic and antacid (reducing the acidity of gastric juice) effect.
The fact that the medicine contains viable bacteria makes its effect similar to the effect of bacterial starters and products prepared on their basis on the body. The drug normalizes the microflora of the body and has a positive effect on the functioning of the stomach and intestines.
Pharmacokinetics
The pharmacokinetics of the drug for the protection and treatment of the gastrointestinal tract are not described in the instructions for it.

Dosing and administration
Gastrofarm tablets are intended for oral administration. They should be taken before meals (ideally half an hour before the main meal), washed down with a small amount of water.
Because of their large size, the tablets need to be crushed. It is usually recommended to chew them before swallowing, but they can also be crushed in another way, mixed with water and drunk as a medicinal suspension.
The effective dosage of the drug depends on the patient’s age, as well as the type and form of the pathology.
So, with increased acidity of gastric juice and gastritis caused by this condition, adults are recommended to take the drug three times a day in the amount of 1 or 2 tablets for 1 month (30 days).
For small patients aged 3 to 12 years, a single dose of half a tablet is recommended (the tablets have a break line for this purpose), which is best crushed in advance and mixed with water.
Teenagers from 12 to 18 years old are given 1 tablet per dose. The frequency of administration for both adults and children remains constant - 3 times a day. The same can be said about the duration of therapy.
Usually the effect of the drug can be observed after a week from the start of its use. If this does not happen, it is necessary to revise the effective dose upwards. In most cases, the dose is doubled. It is recommended to start treatment in the same dosage for acute gastritis.
If the patient is diagnosed with ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum, the effective single dose will be different. For adult patients, it will be from 3 to 4 tablets. The frequency of administration and the duration of the therapeutic course are the same as in the treatment of acute and chronic gastritis: 3 times a day for a month.
As a preventive measure against gastrointestinal diseases, the drug is used in a 15-day course at a dosage of 1-2 tablets three times a day. The drug can also be taken at the same dosage 2 or 3 times a day by heavy smokers or alcohol lovers.

Use Gastropharm during pregnancy
The use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not prohibited, but the possibility of drug therapy in children under 3 years of age should be discussed with a pediatrician.
Overdose
The annotation to the drug does not report cases of overdose, which is not surprising, since the bacteria in the natural medicine and the substances they produce are not foreign to our body. Their excess can only cause slight discomfort in the abdomen and, in rare cases, a decrease in stool frequency, which does not require emergency care.
Since the drug contains sucrose (about 900 mg per tablet), the medicine should be taken with caution by patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, in which blood sugar levels are already elevated.
Interactions with other drugs
Taking the drug "Gastrofarm" does not require revision of other doctor's prescriptions, since it does not exhibit noticeable and significant drug interactions with other drugs, and during antibiotic therapy it will even be useful due to its ability to normalize disturbed intestinal microflora.
The drug is also safe in terms of its effect on neuropsychic processes in the human body. It can be safely used when performing work that requires concentration.
