Food should bring pleasure to a person, otherwise, when the process of eating food is associated with unpleasant sensations as a result of the development of gastrointestinal pathologies, the body reacts to food as a negative factor, with decreased appetite and other symptoms that do not contribute to a person's well-being. In this case, in order to improve the digestion process, and, consequently, metabolism, and allow a person to enjoy eating without fear of unpleasant sensations some time after the meal, drugs from the category of enzyme agents that help normalize digestion are indicated. And one of such drugs is just "Gastrofect".
Indications Gastrofecta
Thus, the use of enzyme preparations is justified in cases where there is a digestive disorder, and the body cannot cope with this problem on its own. Therefore, "Gastrofect is prescribed for enzyme deficiency of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as indigestion caused by nutritional errors (for example, eating too much fatty food or consuming large amounts of protein, alcohol abuse, irregular meals, etc.).
"Gastrofect" is also indicated when symptoms of dyspeptic disorder appear, such as belching, nausea, heaviness in the stomach, flatulence, and heartburn.
But the drug has a positive effect primarily on the liver, which means that the main indications for its use are metabolic disorders in this organ, and the fatty hepatosis (fatty degeneration of liver cells, or its obesity) that develops against this background.
Other indications for taking the drug are:
- hepatitis of various etiologies,
- secondary hyperlipidemia (high blood lipid levels due to lipid metabolism disorders),
- hypertriglyceridemia against the background of quantitative and qualitative disturbances in lipoproteins (therapy with the drug plus diet),
- elevated blood cholesterol levels and pathologies developing against this background, for example, atheromatosis,
- pathologies of the gallbladder and bile ducts, such as dyskinesia (motility disorder) of the biliary tract,
- hyperacid conditions associated with increased secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Release form
The drug is produced by the pharmaceutical industry in the form of effervescent tablets, easily soluble in water. The active substance of the drug "Gastrofect" is betaine. This substance is a derivative of glycine and has the chemical name trimethylglycine.
The mass of betaine in one effervescent tablet is 2 grams. An additional component of the medicine is sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda, which, according to some scientists, can prevent the development of cancer). The tablet contains 1.5 g of it.
Another component of the enzyme preparation is citric acid. There is only 0.2 g of it in one tablet. In addition to the fact that together with soda it helps the tablets quickly dissolve in water, providing "fizzyness", it also participates in metabolic processes occurring in the body, helps remove harmful toxins and excess salts from it, and promotes the burning of carbohydrates.
Pharmacodynamics
Betaine, which is the active ingredient of the drug "Gastrofect", is not foreign to the human body. This enzyme is found in many foods: sugar beet, wheat bran, spinach, seafood, bread, sunflower seeds. If you eat such products regularly, you can successfully avoid many diseases, thus prolonging your life and making it happier.
This substance is also produced in our body as a result of processing choline (vitamin B4), which comes from food.
Betaine is successfully used in cosmetology and medicine. In the first case, it is used as a protector against cell dehydration, in the second - as a stimulator of liver metabolism and digestion (due to the regulation of gastric acidity).
The liver actively participates in carbohydrate metabolism and takes part in lipid metabolism, and also helps remove toxic substances from the body that come from outside or are formed during metabolic processes. Any disturbances in the liver have a negative impact on the functioning of the entire body.
The drug "Gastrofect", thanks to betaine, has:
- lipotropic (protection of the liver from fatty degeneration, prevention of deposition of harmful cholesterol on the walls of blood vessels and in the form of stones in the gallbladder),
- hepatoprotective (restoration and maintenance of liver function, including its antitoxic effect),
- and choleretic action,
- facilitates the process of digestion of food and metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is not toxic to the human body. Betaine is completely absorbed in the intestines in a short time, entering the blood and forming significant concentrations in various tissues of the body. The half-life of the substance ranges from 17 minutes to 1 hour (when taking tablets).
The increase in the half-life of the drug with each new dose indicates that betaine is able to accumulate in the body.
Betaine is excreted from the body by the intestines. A small amount of the drug is excreted in the urine.
Dosing and administration
The drug "Gastrofect" is sold in the form of effervescent tablets intended for oral administration. This means that the tablets must first be dissolved in water and the ready solution taken orally.
To dissolve 1 tablet (single dose), take half a glass of water. The frequency of taking the drug depends on the doctor's prescription and ranges from 1 to 3 times a day.
Doctors recommend taking the drug between meals.

Use Gastrofecta during pregnancy
The use of the drug during pregnancy has not been studied sufficiently, so before starting therapy with this drug, you must consult with your doctor.
Contraindications
But there are not so many contraindications for the drug "Gastrofect". It is not used if the patient has hypersensitivity to the components of the drug and an increased likelihood of developing allergic reactions.
If digestive problems are associated with alcohol abuse, then you will have to give up alcohol during treatment with the drug, because Gastrofect and alcohol are incompatible.
In pediatrics, the drug is not commonly used to treat patients under 12 years of age.
Side effects Gastrofecta
Most often, taking the drug "Gastrofect" does not cause any undesirable consequences. Only in case of increased sensitivity to the components of the drug, various allergic reactions may be observed.
Very rarely, patients taking the drug complained of diarrhea and the appearance of symptoms of dyspeptic disorder, which is associated with the presence of macrogol in the tablets.
Overdose
There have been no cases of drug overdose in medical practice, however, if undesirable symptoms occur, it is recommended to wash out the stomach and take antihistamines.
Sometimes taking betaine can cause a fishy odor in your breath and stool.
If unusual reactions occur that are not typical for the drug "Gastrofect", you should stop taking the medicine and report the symptoms to your doctor.
Interactions with other drugs
The interaction of "Gastrofect" with other drugs is associated with the presence of betaine in the form of citrate in the composition of the drug. This substance can slightly reduce the effectiveness of antibacterial agents.
However, it interacts positively with choline, pepsin, B vitamins (especially vitamin B12), creatine and folic acid.
The drug produces a slight alkalizing effect, which helps reduce the acidity of gastric juice. In this regard, absorption of oral drugs in the stomach may decrease.
Storage conditions
The manufacturer recommends storing the medicine in the original packaging away from moisture, heat and sunlight. The optimal storage temperature is 15-25 degrees.
Shelf life
The shelf life of the drug "Gastrofect" is 36 months, during which it retains its effectiveness and is safe for humans.
