Indications Ferrovira

It is used to treat the following pathologies:

  • hepatitis type C;
  • herpesvirus infection (type 1 or 2) of origin (in any form of localization);
  • a generalized herpesvirus infection in immunocompetent individuals;
  • tick-borne encephalitis;
  • cervical dysplasia caused by HPV (as part of etiopathogenetic treatment);
  • papillomavirus infection (warts, as well as dysplasia or condylomas);
  • herpes in the genital area, which is chronic or regularly recurring;
  • CMV;
  • use in individuals with HIV/AIDS.

Release form

The drug is released as a 15 mg/ml solution in glass bottles with a capacity of 2 or 5 ml. A special blister tray contains 10 bottles with a capacity of 2 ml or 5 bottles with a capacity of 5 ml. There is 1 such blister tray inside the box.

Pharmacodynamics

It has a powerful antiviral effect against RNA- or DNA-containing viruses.

The active element, which is of natural origin, has a pronounced immunomodulatory effect.

For people with HIV/AIDS, a 14-day treatment cycle allows for an increase in CD4+ lymphocyte counts. The drug's effect lasts 30-45 days. Additionally, a weakening of the viral load inside the body is observed, as a result of which the HIV RNA indicator decreases dynamically from the initial values.

A 10-day treatment cycle helps to reduce the duration of relapse of herpesvirus infection, and also provides longer remission in the case of regularly recurring disease.

Combination treatment in people with chronic hepatitis C helps reduce HCV virus replication (for all existing genotypes), and also transfers the disease to a latent stage with further restoration of hepatocells, as well as slowing down the replication of the virus.

Ferrovir demonstrates activity against viruses of the main as well as opportunistic pathologies.

There is also information about the positive effect of therapy in conditions and diseases caused by HPV and EBV.

Pharmacokinetics

The absorption of the substance with subsequent distribution inside the organs with tissues during intramuscular injections is carried out at a fairly high speed. Distribution processes occur through the endolymphatic transport system. Ferrovir has a strong tropism with respect to the organs of hematopoiesis.

The medicine is embedded into the cell structures, participating in cellular metabolic processes. Daily course use causes accumulation of active elements inside organs and tissues.

The Cmax values of the active element of the drug are noted after half an hour; then there is a gradual decrease in this indicator - the substance begins to distribute inside the body. The half-life is 36 hours. Multiple injections (daily for 4 days) lead to accumulation of the drug inside the spleen, bone marrow, and lymphatic system.

After the 5th injection, no increase in the levels of active elements within tissues and organs was observed.

Metabolic products are excreted mainly in urine, and some in feces. The drug is retained in the body for approximately 72 hours (on average).

Dosing and administration

The medicine should be administered exclusively intramuscularly (at low speed, over 1-2 minutes).

Use of the drug for herpesvirus infections: administer via intramuscular injection, 2 times a day, for 10 days, 5 ml of the substance. Another effective treatment regimen was also determined during clinical trials: administer 75 mg once a day (with a 24-hour interval); the cycle duration is also 10 days.

For CMV or herpes in the genital area (chronic or recurrent), 5 ml of the medicine is used twice a day; the cycle lasts 10-15 days.

Combination therapy for combined viral infection in the genital area (HPV + herpes): intramuscular administration of 5 ml of the substance once a day. The interval between procedures is 24 hours, and the treatment cycle lasts 10 days.

HPV therapy: administration of 5 ml of the drug at 48-hour intervals. The treatment cycle is 10 days.

Treatment for HPV-induced cervical dysplasia is performed according to the following scheme: 5 ml of the drug administered at 48-hour intervals. The entire cycle consists of 10 injections.

People with CMV require 5 ml of the drug to be administered intramuscularly twice a day. The cycle duration is 10 days.

To treat tick-borne encephalitis, it is necessary to administer 15 mg/ml of the substance intramuscularly (2 times a day) for 10-15 days.

For AIDS or HIV: 5 ml of the drug is administered twice a day; the course of therapy lasts 14 days. A repeat cycle can be performed if necessary after 1-1.5 months.

For category C hepatitis: administer 5 ml of the medication twice a day; the course lasts 14 days. After this cycle is completed, the drug must be administered every other day in the same daily dose for the next 2 weeks.

Interactions with other drugs

Ferrovir may enhance the medicinal activity of anticoagulants.

The medication reduces the severity of negative manifestations and also reduces the toxicity of antiviral and antimicrobial drugs, as well as antimycotics and cytostatics used in combination therapy.

This effect can be explained by the optimization of metabolic processes within liver cells (hepatocytes), as well as the cytoprotective activity of the drug.

Ferrovir can be stored for up to 5 years from the date of manufacture of the drug (if the bottles are not opened).

Application for children

The drug is not used in pediatrics.

Analogues

The analogues of the drug are Herpes Simplex, Flavozid and Proteflazid with Immustat.

Reviews

Ferrovir receives quite varied reviews. Some patients write that the course of treatment with the drug led to a long-term remission of the virus, significantly strengthening the immune system, as well as resistance to other diseases. But there are also those who doubt the effectiveness of the drug, because it is impossible to remove the virus from the body.

Positive comments regarding the treatment of HPV are left by both doctors and patients – the drug effectively suppresses the activity of HPV.

The disadvantages include the high price of the drug, which is why not everyone can buy it. In addition, due to the lack of data confirming the safety of the drug when used in pediatrics, it cannot be used in children - this is often noted by parents in their reviews on forums.
