Pharmacodynamics

Iron contained in the drug is an important element of many organs and tissues, participates in the processes of erythropoiesis and becomes a component of erythrocytes with bone marrow.

Vitamin C significantly increases the body's ability to absorb iron, especially in various gastrointestinal disorders. Ascorbic acid helps stabilize the activity of Fe2+ ions, thereby improving the absorption of drug elements.

Pharmacokinetics

Iron absorption occurs mainly in the upper part of the small intestine, from where it penetrates into target organs. Taking into account the body's needs, some of the drug is absorbed, and the unused substance is excreted with feces.

Dosing and administration

The pills should be taken orally with plain water. It is recommended to take the medicine 120 minutes before or after eating. However, if there are negative symptoms in the gastrointestinal tract, the medicine can be taken with food.

Before starting therapy, you need to consult a doctor and also take tests to determine the iron levels in the body.

Use of the medicine for adults.

In case of severe anemia, it is necessary to consume iron in large quantities, having first calculated the required amount of the substance using a special formula.

Often 0.15-0.3 g of the substance is taken per day, and in case of moderate or mild anemia - 60-120 mg. The frequency of use is 2-3 times.

The therapeutic cycle lasts for 3 months. If the use of the drug needs to be continued after this period, the dose should be reduced to 1 tablet taken 3 times a day.

Use in children over 4 years of age.

For children and adolescents, the dosage is 1 tablet 3 times a day.

There is also another mode of use - taking 2 pills 3 times a day, 1-2 times a week, for 3 months. In the case of using this scheme, negative symptoms develop less often.

Other groups of patients undergoing treatment.

Elderly people may require increased doses of Ferroplex because they have decreased iron absorption and depletion of iron reserves in the body.

People with renal insufficiency (including those undergoing hemodialysis) are required to consume 0.2 g of the substance per day (in 2-3 or more doses). Later, the portion is reduced to the standard size.

Use Ferroplex during pregnancy

Usually, during pregnancy, you need to take 1 pill per day (its volume is 30 mg). The duration of the treatment cycle is selected by the doctor.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • the presence of hypersensitivity to iron or its derivatives, as well as vitamin C and other elements of the drug;
  • conditions after gastric resection;
  • aplastic anemia;
  • bleeding.

The drug should be used with extreme caution if the patient has ulcerative diseases in the gastrointestinal tract.

Side effects Ferroplex

After taking the medication, digestive disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, nausea, constipation, loss of appetite, increased gas formation and heartburn may sometimes develop.

By starting therapy with lower doses and gradually increasing them, it is possible to reduce the likelihood of developing such symptoms.

Occasionally, signs of intolerance appear - a rash on the epidermis.

Overdose

If the contents of the pill accidentally enter the respiratory tract, irreversible necrosis may develop, so you should immediately contact a doctor.

In case of acute poisoning with the drug, the following symptoms may develop: bloody vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea and nausea. In severe cases of the disorder, oliguria, a feeling of drowsiness, loss of consciousness and a state of shock are observed.

After 4-6 hours, an improvement in the condition is noted, but after 0.5-2 days, periodic breathing, shock, hepatitis and jaundice may develop, as well as a comatose state, convulsions and paralysis. Death may also occur.

As a therapeutic measure, a raw egg or milk is taken, followed by gastric lavage using a buffered phosphate solution or bicarbonate. In addition, 5 g (for a child) or 10 g of deferoxamine should be taken.

If shock or coma develops due to drug overdose, with a serum iron level of 3 mg/ml, an intravenous injection of levulose with deferoxamine is required. This procedure must be repeated the following day.

If anuria occurs, hemodialysis should be performed.

In extreme cases, administration of Ca-DTPA or Zn-DTPA is allowed.

Interactions with other drugs

Combination with antacids or aluminum-containing agents may weaken the therapeutic effectiveness of the drug.

The drug reduces the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin with ofloxacin, as well as other antibacterial drugs.

The degree of absorption of methyldioxyphenylalanine in the oral cavity when combined with Ferroplex may be significantly reduced.

Tetracyclines and penicillamine, when used together with iron preparations, mutually weaken the drug's effectiveness.

The interval between the use of iron and thyroxine should be at least 2 hours. In addition, with such a combination, it is necessary to constantly perform examinations of the thyroid condition.

It is prohibited to take the medication together with chloramphenicol.
