Fenuls baby is an anti-anemic drug taken orally. It belongs to the group of ferrous iron drugs.
Indications Fenuls baby
Release form
The drug is released in the form of oral drops.
Pharmacodynamics
Iron contained in hemoglobin helps transport oxygen into tissues. Sufficient iron is required for effective erythropoiesis processes. The drug contains iron in the form of a polymaltose hydroxide complex of 3-valent iron. This complex of macromolecules is stable inside the gastrointestinal tract and does not secrete iron in the form of free ions.
Fenuls Baby is similar in structure to a natural iron compound – the ferritin component. This similarity allows iron (type III) to pass from the intestines into the blood by means of active absorption. It is this ability of the drug that explains the impossibility of intoxication with it, which distinguishes it from ordinary iron salts, the absorption of which is carried out in accordance with the gradient of therapeutic concentration.
The absorbed iron is stored in the standard form with ferritin - mostly inside the liver. Then, inside the bone marrow, it is part of hemoglobin. Iron, which is a component of the iron (type III)-polymaltose complex, does not have the prooxidant effect inherent in standard iron salts (type II).
Pharmacokinetics
Iron absorption occurs mainly in the duodenum. Peak absorption values are observed when the substance is consumed on an empty stomach. The degree of iron absorption increases in conditions characterized by iron deficiency.
The polymaltose iron complex shows bioavailability values comparable to the bioavailability of fumarate salts and iron sulfate in therapeutic as well as physiological doses.

Dosing and administration
The dosage and duration of therapy are determined by the degree of iron deficiency, weight and age of the patient. The daily dose can be taken either once or in several doses.
Dosage portions for clinically expressed iron deficiency:
- premature babies – 1-2 drops/kg daily for 3-5 months;
- children under 12 months of age – 10-15 drops per day;
- children aged 1-12 years – 20-30 drops of the drug per day;
- teenagers from 12 years of age and adults – 40-120 drops of medication per day;
- pregnant women – 80-120 drops of the substance per day.
The duration of the therapeutic cycle in clinically significant iron deficiency should be at least 2 months. In such cases, stabilization of hemoglobin levels is observed after 2-3 months from the start of therapy. To restore internal reserves, the medication is taken in prophylactic doses for several months.
Portion regimen for latent iron deficiency:
- infants up to 12 months – 6-10 drops of the drug per day;
- children aged 1-12 years – 10-20 drops of the drug per day;
- for teenagers over 12 years of age and adults – 20-40 drops of the substance per day;
- pregnant women – 20-40 drops of medication per day (should start from the 14th week of pregnancy, with 2-week intervals in use).
Preventive doses for iron deficiency:
- for infants under 12 months of age – 2-4 drops of the substance per day;
- children aged 1-12 years – 4-6 drops of the drug per day;
- adults and adolescents over 12 years old – 4-6 drops of medication per day;
- pregnant women – 4-6 drops of the drug per day.
Use Fenuls baby during pregnancy
When using the drug, no negative effects on the woman and the fetus were registered (even when taken in the 1st trimester).
Contraindications
It is contraindicated to prescribe the medication to people with megaloblastic anemia.
