A stye on the eye is a painful suppuration of the hair follicle from which the eyelash grows, or of the sebaceous gland located next to it. This inflammation causes sharp unpleasant sensations, accompanied by a feeling of discomfort.
During this disease, the eye swells, puffs up and turns red. This will continue until the abscess ripens. Since sick leave is not provided in such cases, it will be useful for everyone to learn how to treat a stye on the eye with medications.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of eye drops for barley
Medicinal forms that contain antibiotics have a standard mechanism of action: either a direct effect on pathogenic agents, as a result of which they die instantly, or a disruption in the synthesis of substances in bacteria that are necessary for their vital activity.
Preparations containing sulfonamides have a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect on bacteria.
Despite the danger of rapid development of resistance of microorganisms to these drugs, the resistance itself is formed slowly. This factor makes the use of these drugs convenient.
The pharmacokinetics of each drug is different. For example, ciprolet and levomycetin enter the systemic bloodstream and are excreted by the kidneys or intestines. But floxal, tobrex and albucid have a local effect, so their systemic absorption is low.

List of eye drops for barley
Ciprolet |
Contains a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent - ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, which disrupts the growth and development of bacteria, causing their rapid death. This drug is good because the resistance of pathogenic bacteria to it develops extremely slowly, so it can be used for quite a long time. |
Levomycetin |
The composition includes the antibiotic levomycetin, which, like ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, has a broad spectrum of action. The action of levomycetin is to suppress the development of pathogens (E. coli, streptococci and staphylococci, chlamydia and gonococci). |
Tobrex |
Contains a local antibiotic – tobramycin, which disrupts the vital activity of harmful bacteria (streptococci and staphylococci, Klebsiella, E. coli, corynebacteria), thus causing their death. |
Albucid |
These drops contain an antimicrobial drug - sulfacetamide. Its mechanism of action is to disrupt the synthesis of substances necessary for their vital activity in pathogenic microorganisms (E. coli, streptococci and staphylococci, chlamydia and gonococci). |
Floxal |
The drops contain the antibiotic ofloxacin. It is active against the following bacteria: E. coli, salmonella, proteus, shigella, klebsiella, gonorrheal diplococci, chlamydia, as well as staphylococci and streptococci. |
Other drops for barley with antibiotic |
There are drops based on erythromycin, penicillin, gentamicin, tetracycline, etc. |
Drops for children |
Children over 1 year of age can use eye drops with ciprolet and albucid. There is no necessary experience in using "tobrex" in children. |
Method of administration and dosage
Ciprolet |
For mild infections, use 1-2 drops every 4 hours, and for severe infections, use 2 drops every hour. |
Levomycetin |
1 drop 3-4 times a day. If you use the medicine at your own discretion, it is not advisable to do this for more than three days. |
Tobrex |
For mild infections, use 1-2 drops every 4 hours, and for severe infections, use 2 drops every 30 minutes. |
Albucid |
For treating children's eyes, a 20% solution is used, and for treating adults, a 30% solution. The dosage is usually determined by the attending physician. However, for acute infections, the eyes are instilled 2-3 drops up to six times a day. |
Floxal |
1 drop 3-4 times a day. If it is necessary to simultaneously administer another drug into the eye, the interval between instillations should be five minutes. |
