Benefits of Eucalyptus Oil

When you smell eucalyptus for the first time, you catch the coniferous component of the aroma, but this plant does not belong to conifers, it belongs to the myrtle family. The wide-ranging properties of this plant allow it to be used in many areas: from cosmetology and medicine to household chemicals. The benefits of the product are indisputable and enormous: these are cough drops based on it; and body or household deodorants; mouth fresheners, chewing gums; and drugs of wide systemic use.

Even during the times of contact combat, the Australian aborigines used the leaves of this plant to heal stab wounds, even quite severe wounds.

Mainly, the leaves of the spherical eucalyptus are used to obtain eucalyptus extract; it is most effective in treating diseases caused by pathogenic viruses and bacteria. But other varieties of this tree are also excellent. For example, the lemon subspecies of eucalyptus is more effective in healing burns and wounds, and treating skin damage.

The specificity of eucalyptus extract makes it difficult to select other scents that go with it. The most acceptable combination is considered to be the joint use of eucalyptus oil with aromatic substances that have a strong manifestation of terpenes. In this light, the tandem of eucalyptus with the following extracts is considered acceptable: lemon, orange, lavender, rosewood extract, bigarium, geranium, cedar, veneroli, petitgrain, vetiver and rosemary.

The use of eucalyptus extract, both as an independent aroma and in combination with other smells, greatly affects the emotional sphere of a person. After a hard day at work, such aromas allow you to quickly recover emotionally, to come to your senses after an unpleasant stressful situation. They allow you to activate the body's immune reserves. The effect of this aroma activates the brain, stimulating mental activity, sharpening thinking. Work productivity increases significantly.

Eucalyptus extract is the aroma of intellectuals. Such aromatherapy perfectly relieves fatigue, normalizes sleep, eliminates apathy.

Uses of Eucalyptus Oil

The scope of application of essential oils is quite extensive. In the life of a modern person it is quite problematic to find an area in which they are not used. The substance obtained from eucalyptus leaves is also widely in demand. The most active use of eucalyptus oil is observed in the field of medicine. Due to its numerous medicinal properties, it is effectively used in relief therapy for colds and infectious lesions of both the upper and lower respiratory tract. Its use shows excellent healing results in case of damage to skin surfaces obtained in various ways: burns, injuries, cuts, including ulcers or erosions, which are indicators of a dermatological disease. The use of eucalyptus extract is also effective in gynecology, for example, with cervical erosion. It is also actively used in dentistry to relieve inflammatory processes occurring in the oral cavity, as well as with mucosal infection, for example, with stomatitis.

Eucalyptus is also used with good results as an antipyretic agent (rubbing with the use of an extract), and inhaling its vapors makes it possible to restore breathing, stop coughing fits, and remove mucus accumulated in the lung tissues as efficiently as possible, preventing congestion.

This substance is a good painkiller, which is enough to apply a thin layer to the problem area to relieve pain symptoms: a couple of drops applied and rubbed with a light movement into the skin of the temporal part is enough to get rid of a headache.

This aromatic substance is also used for preventive purposes. By "fumigating" the premises with it, you can achieve quite good sanitization, thanks to the high antiviral and antimicrobial characteristics of this product. This is especially relevant during the peak period of the population's illness with influenza or other viral diseases.

The product has also found its application in cosmetology, although its demand in this area is not as large as in medicine. In this area, its high efficiency in the fight against inflammatory processes and infectious lesions of the skin is mainly used. Mainly, this is the relief and removal of furunculosis, manifestations of acne, herpes. In case of minor frostbite or burns, it can be used for resuscitation and restoration of the skin.

In cosmetology it is used as a bleaching agent, as well as for body deodorization. It is also effective in the treatment of alopecia (problems with increased hair loss), as well as in the case of dandruff.

The product has also found its niche in everyday life. It has proven to be an excellent repellent, so it is quite popular and is used in almost every product manufactured by industry to combat insects (it has repelling properties). In everyday life, it can also be used as a room deodorizer.

If clothes are contaminated with resin extract (for example, pine branches), the product in question is effective in cleaning such contamination.

Inhalations with eucalyptus oil

Inhalations, in the treatment of colds and infectious diseases affecting the human respiratory system, have a number of advantages over other treatment methods. First of all, such a procedure has a local effect, and also, due to the direct impact on the focus of pathology, the therapeutic effectiveness of the treatment manifests itself much faster. Aromatized vapors in the process of inhalation with eucalyptus extract help to accelerate the removal of mucus from the respiratory tissues, protecting the respiratory organs from dangerous stagnation.

But before proceeding with the procedure, it is advisable to check the patient's body for sensitivity to eucalyptus oil by performing the test discussed above. If there is no reaction, you can proceed with the treatment.

How to do inhalation correctly? If you have a special device at home or have been scheduled to visit the physiotherapy room at the nearest clinic, then the problem is solved. But if there are no such conditions, then at home you can do with improvised means. To do this, you need to boil water in a kettle or saucepan. After boiling, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the boiling water, bend your head over the saucepan and cover yourself with a blanket or towel on top, creating a semblance of a bath. Inhale the aromatic vapors for at least 10 minutes.

The process can be slightly modernized. Make a funnel out of thick cardboard or other suitable material, cover the pot with the larger diameter, and breathe through the smaller hole, inhaling through the mouth or nose, whichever is more necessary.

Eucalyptus oil for runny nose

A runny nose is a rather unpleasant symptom that brings a lot of discomfort and you want to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Eucalyptus extract for a runny nose is perfect for this purpose. The phytoncides contained in the product cope well with microbes, viruses and pathogenic flora that “occupy” our body. It is the ethers that bear the main responsibility for treatment.

Aromadendren and phellandrene, which are part of the ether, when in contact with oxygen, are transformed into ozone, a powerful bactericidal medicine, by chemical changes. Therefore, the use of this product in inhalations, instillation and rinsing of the nasal sinuses allows you to effectively combat inflammatory and infectious diseases that have affected the tissues of the nasal cavity.

To increase the effectiveness of the solution, you can prepare the following mixture:

  1. Take a glass of warm water.
  2. Add half a tablespoon of sea salt. This component can be replaced with a chamomile decoction, taken in volume twice as much.
  3. Add a tablespoon of chlorophyllipt here – this drug can be found in any pharmacy.
  4. Add a couple of drops of eucalyptus extract.

Rinse the nasal sinuses with the resulting mixture three times a day. This therapy is considered the most effective for rhinitis of any severity. Mostly, complications of this treatment have not been recorded.

Aromatherapy is also suitable in such a situation, using which it is necessary to breathe in the vapors of the product, slightly warmed up in a water bath, for several minutes before going to bed. It will be enough to do such a procedure for four to five days.

Eucalyptus oil for hair

Another niche of effective use of a natural product is the possibility of using it for hair. The main problems that the extract from this plant will help to solve are: split ends, weak hair follicle, dull shine, weak growth, and generally lifeless unattractive hair. Washing your hair with the product will perfectly remove unpleasant symptoms in case of dandruff (the process of rapid death of epidermal cells) or itchy scalp.

It is enough to add five drops of the product to your shampoo to achieve the required effectiveness. Regular use of such enriched shampoo will strengthen your hair cascade, make it bright, shiny, naturally healthy, and remove dandruff and itching.

The same effect can be achieved by using a few drops of the product when rubbing it into the hair, massaging for about twenty minutes at the same time. The massaging movements should be gentle and soft, not aggressive. This procedure will improve blood circulation and enrich the epidermal cells with oxygen.

Masks that combine several different essential oils are also great. For example, together with eucalyptus, tea tree, olive or almond extracts are great.

Here are some recipes for masks that are suitable for oily hair:

  1. Add two drops of the product, four drops of rosemary and thyme oils into the vessel. Mix and add an infusion or decoction of St. John's wort and oak bark.
  2. The following composition shows high efficiency in restoring hair vitality: take a couple of drops of the product of different varieties (lemon and spherical), add five milliliters of jojoba and sasanqua essential oils. Mix and add five drops of bay and rosemary oils.

The prepared composition should be stored in a dark glass bottle in a cool place (the bottle can be wrapped in opaque paper). First, the healing composition is rubbed into the scalp with smooth movements, then spread along the entire length of the hair with a comb. Cellophane is put on the head, and a warm hat on top. The mask is kept on the head for about half an hour, after which it is washed off with warm water. It is advisable to do this procedure once or twice a week, in case of severe hair loss, once every two days is allowed. The duration of therapy is about a month. The treatment, if necessary, can be repeated after a two-week break.

An excellent preventive result can be achieved by combing your hair daily with a fine-tooth comb with a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil applied to it. Leave it for 30 minutes, wrapping your head in cellophane and a warm towel, then wash your hair thoroughly.

The reward for all your efforts will be beautiful healthy hair!

Eucalyptus oil for nose

In addition to the above-mentioned inhalations, in case of a runny nose and swelling of the nasal passages, it is effective to instill it into the nose or lubricate the mucous membrane of the nasal passages with an ointment based on it. We will give several acceptable and effective compositions, but it is worth noting that stopping rhinitis is a troublesome and lengthy matter, and in order to reduce the duration of therapy, you cannot do without a comprehensive approach to treatment.

  1. We prepare the following composition: melt two tablespoons of Vaseline in a water bath and add essential oils in drops: eucalyptus and tea tree - five each, three mint is enough. Mix thoroughly and lubricate the nasal passages two or three times a day.
  2. You can also use a natural concentrated product; it is enough to instill one or two drops in the morning and before bedtime, so as not to leave any chance for the infection to develop.
  3. Aerosol spraying with a diluted product is also effective. For 20 drops of the product in question and the same amount of tea tree extract, take 100 g of vodka. Mix everything and spray it in the room every two hours.

Eucalyptus oil for cough

Cough is a concomitant symptom of almost every cold affecting the upper respiratory tract. Therefore, the remedy is used for cough in the same way as for colds in general. This can be rubbing, inhalation, baths using this essential extract. Eucalyptus tree ethers warm the tissues, liquefy mucus and activate its removal, clearing the lungs and bronchi.

Such procedures help to minimize irritation of the mucous membrane, which helps to eliminate coughing fits.

Eucalyptus oil for children

Little children probably suffer from colds much more often than adults, but the remedy for children to treat colds can be used no earlier than when they reach two years of age. Such medicine is given to children internally only as prescribed by the attending doctor and the daily dosage should not exceed one drop. To ensure that the child does not refuse the medicine, it is better to mix it with a small amount of honey and give it to him with warm tea.

Another method of therapy is to soak several cotton or gauze swabs in the extract and scatter them around the room where the little person sleeps or plays.

Inhalations are also good, but it is quite difficult to keep a fidget in one place for 10 minutes. In this case, a hot bath will do, just a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the water and its vapors will do their job.

  3. If you are bothered by muscle and joint pain, or are often bothered by migraines, a basic bath with the addition of 3-4 drops of rosemary extract will be effective.

Some recommendations for the procedure:

Eucalyptus essential oil

The homeland of this exotic tree for us is considered to be Australia and Tasmania, where the healing properties of the plant leaves were known and used by the aborigines for a long time. But obtaining the product in the form of an oily liquid began relatively recently. Essential eucalyptus oil is a transparent product obtained by steam distillation, followed by condensation of vapors, which allows you to get the desired medicinal product from the available distillate. This processing method is called hydrodistillation. The raw materials for obtaining the extract are young shoots and leaves of fast-growing species of eucalyptus: rod-shaped, lemon, ash and spherical. Having processed a ton of raw material, you can get about three to five kilograms of the essential product.

The liquid is easily mobile, colorless, or slightly colored in yellow. This product has a fairly characteristic and easily recognizable odor.

Today, about forty different components have been identified in the essential oils of this "tree of life", as the local aborigines call it. And it is to them that the product owes its unique healing properties. The basis of the product is cineole, which occupies approximately 60-80% of all components. It is this that dictates the main therapeutic characteristics of the drug. In addition, the product contains flavonoids, aldehydes, various tanning chemical compounds, and organic acids.

Today, people of many countries located in the tropical and subtropical zones use the leaves of this plant in their dishes as a seasoning. In many countries, this plant is specially cultivated for medicinal purposes or used in park design. By planting it in marshy areas, the population solves two problems at once: draining the land and destroying the malaria mosquito - a carrier of a dangerous disease.

Shelf life

Any essential extract has a short shelf life, due to its naturalness. In this case, it is 12 months.
