Elevit Pronatal is a mineral multivitamin complex.

Indications Elevita Pronatal

It is used to prevent the development of mineral and vitamin deficiency (or its correction) at the stage of conception planning, and also during pregnancy and lactation.

The drug is used a maximum of 1 month before fertilization to reduce the likelihood of neural tube defects, as well as other congenital developmental anomalies.

It is also used to prevent the occurrence of anemia, which develops due to a lack of vitamin B9 and iron, and in addition to this, to reduce the incidence of nausea and vomiting in the early stages of pregnancy.

Release form

Released in tablets, 10 or 20 pieces in a blister. In a separate package - 3 or 10 blister plates (10 tablets each) or 5 blister cells (20 tablets each).

Pharmacodynamics

Elevit Pronatal is a multivitamin and mineral medicine containing 12 different vitamins combined with 3 minerals and 4 microelements. The drug is specially designed to provide the pregnant woman and the fetus with optimal micronutrient support.

Vitamins are a necessary element of the processes of normal growth and development of both the fetus and the newborn. They help metabolic processes, as well as the formation of lipids with carbohydrates, proteins with nucleic acids and the body's energy. In addition, vitamins help bind collagen, amino acids and neurotransmitters.

Multivitamin-polymineral drugs are used to prevent or correct nutritional deficiency of micronutrients in the body. During pregnancy and lactation, the body experiences an increased need for micronutrients, which increases the likelihood of developing a deficiency of this component in both the woman and the fetus/child.

During the evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of the drug at the stage of conception planning (1 month before conception, as well as up to the 3rd month of the gestation period), no neural tube defects were detected (compared with 6 cases in the placebo group). The difference was statistically significant and was confirmed during the following pharmacoepidemiological two-cohort testing: in the group that took the drug, only 1 case of neural tube defect development was noted; in the group that did not take vitamins, such cases were noted 9. In addition, both tests showed that the overall rate of gross developmental anomalies (for example, defects in the cardiovascular system and the urinary system, as well as limbs and pyloric obstruction) is lower in the group that took Elevit Pronatal (compared with the placebo category or the control group that did not take vitamins). At the same time, it was possible to find that within the group using the drug, cases of vomiting with nausea, as well as dizziness, occurred twice as rarely (comparison with the placebo category).

The levels of folate within the red blood cells of a pregnant woman are a reflection of the likelihood of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. The threshold levels of folate associated with a low likelihood of these defects are 906 nmol/L.

It is recommended to take the drug at the stage of conception planning, because abnormalities in the development of the fetal neural tube occur already in the first weeks, even before the presence of pregnancy can be established.

Dosing and administration

The medicine should be taken 1 tablet per day (in the morning, with food), washed down with water. The tablet should not be chewed. If nausea is observed, it is recommended to take the medicine during the day or in the evening.

It is recommended to take the drug in the period of 1 month before the planned conception, and then during pregnancy and lactation. Elevit Pronatal is intended for use by women of reproductive age.

Use Elevita Pronatal during pregnancy

Elevit Pronatal is specially designed for use during lactation/pregnancy, but daily doses should be controlled to avoid exceeding them. Consult a doctor before use.

Retinol in daily doses of more than 10 thousand IU, prescribed in the 1st trimester, had a teratogenic effect. Because of this, it is necessary to take the drug with caution in combination with other drugs that contain retinol. In addition, it should not be combined with artificial isomers (isotretinoin, as well as etretinate) or β-carotene, because the above elements are harmful to the fetus.

Chronic calciferol poisoning can have a negative effect on the fetus. It is necessary to prevent overdoses of this element, because chronic hypercalcemia can cause developmental delays (mental and physical), as well as the development of aortic or supravalvular stenosis and retinopathy.

It was found that calciferol intoxication in pregnant animals led to the development of teratogenic effects. However, there is no data confirming that therapeutic doses of calciferol are capable of having a teratogenic effect on humans.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • the presence of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • hypervitaminosis type A or D;
  • combined use with retinoids;
  • severe functional renal impairment;
  • disorders of copper or iron metabolism;
  • hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria (in severe form);
  • history of sarcoidosis;
  • active pulmonary tuberculosis;
  • aggravated ulcer in the duodenum or stomach;
  • hypervitaminosis type E.

Side effects Elevita Pronatal

Using the medicine may cause the following side effects:

  • gastrointestinal dysfunction: dyspeptic symptoms (this includes abdominal pain and discomfort, as well as pain in the gastrointestinal tract), constipation, nausea, flatulence, diarrhea and vomiting;
  • immune disorders: allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis), as well as facial swelling, urticaria, redness of the skin and dyspnea. In addition, asthmatic syndrome, blisters, as well as shock, itching and rashes occur. If allergic symptoms appear, you should stop taking the medicine and consult a doctor;
  • metabolic disorders: development of hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria;
  • manifestations from the nervous system: dizziness, hyperthermia, headaches, as well as a feeling of drowsiness or increased excitability, as well as insomnia may occur.

Due to the riboflavin contained in the medicine, a slight yellowing of urine may be observed, while another component of the drug - iron - is capable of coloring feces black. These effects are completely safe for health.

During a placebo-controlled test, pregnant women took 1 tablet of the drug daily for 6 months. Side effects such as skin rashes, diarrhea and diarrhea were noted.

Overdose

Cases of intoxication were often associated with the simultaneous use of monodrugs or multivitamins in large doses. With prolonged or acute overdose, hypervitaminosis type A or D may develop, as well as hypercalcemia. Copper and iron can have a toxic effect in case of poisoning.

Symptoms of acute intoxication include non-specific signs such as sudden headache, as well as suppression of consciousness and gastrointestinal dysfunction (nausea, diarrhea, constipation and vomiting). If such signs appear, stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.

Ascorbic acid poisoning (ingestion in doses exceeding 15 g) can cause hemolytic anemia in some people (those suffering from G6PD deficiency).

In case of long-term use of high doses of the drug, arrhythmia, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, hyperuricemia and paresthesia may occur, as well as hyperglycemia, decreased glucose tolerance and renal dysfunction. Transient increase in the activity of LDH, ALP and AST, cracks and dryness in the area of the feet with palms, seborrheic rashes and alopecia may also occur.

Interactions with other drugs

Elements of Elevit Pronatal may interact with the following medications:

  • iron absorption may be inhibited in combination with antacids, drugs that lower the pH level in the stomach, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, as well as levodopa, fluoroquinolones, levothyroxine and tetracyclines. If such a combination is necessary, the drugs must be taken at intervals of 2-3 hours;
  • magnesium- or calcium-containing drugs, as well as drugs that contain zinc or copper, can interact with antibiotics (such as fluoroquinolones and tetracyclines), as well as antacids, penicillamine, levodopa, thyroxine, and also with bisphosphonates, triantine, antiviral drugs, digitalis and oral thiazide diuretics. Because of this, people taking such drugs in combination are required to observe a 2-hour interval between doses;
  • Thiazide-type diuretics can retain calcium in the body, which increases the likelihood of hypercalcemia;
  • Vitamin B9 potentiates the processes of metabolism of the substance phenytoin;
  • ascorbic acid increases the effectiveness of action, as well as side effects of antimicrobial drugs from the sulfonamide category;
  • absorption of tocopherol may interfere with the action of silver or iron drugs.

Because oxalic acid (found in rhubarb and spinach) and myo-inositol hexaphosphoric acid (found in whole grains) can inhibit calcium absorption, the medication should not be taken within 2 hours of eating food that contains high levels of these acids.

Reviews

According to reviews, the use of the drug during conception planning has a positive effect on the course of pregnancy. In addition, doctors note that the probability of conception in this case increases significantly, because the body has the required amount of all the necessary fractions of nutritional components. At the same time, the fetus develops without being exposed to the risk of various diseases that are possible in the case of a lack of vitamins. And microelements stimulate the optimal formation of vital organs with tissues.

Shelf life

Elevit Pronatal is permitted to be used for a period of 2 years from the date of release of the drug.
