Pharmacodynamics

Active Ingredients Dexon is dexamethasone and neomycin.

Dexamethasone is a glucocorticoid hormone with anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antipruritic action. If this substance is used topically, then it is possible to reduce the painful manifestations, burning, and also to get rid of lacrimation and photophobia.

Neomycin is an antibiotic aminoglycoside, with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. In fact, this drug is a combination of neomycins formed as a result of the activity of streptomycete fungus. The main property of neomycin is bactericidal. It is explained by the action on the ribosomes and inhibition of the production of the protein of the microbial cell. Neomycin is active against gram (-) and gram (+) bacteria, in particular, to shigella, proteus, mycobacteria, streptococci.

The drug Dexon is used externally, for diseases of the eyes and skin. The persistence of microbes to the medicament develops gradually and to an insignificant degree.

Pharmacokinetics

After applying drops to the zone of the conjunctival sac, the glucocorticoid easily penetrates the epithelial corneal and conjunctival tissue. The limiting therapeutic quantities of the drug are found in the cornea, anterior eye chamber and in the vitreous. Dexamethasone quickly enters the eye fluid: therapeutic concentrations are observed for 90-120 minutes.

Anti-inflammatory effect after drop application Dexon lasts up to 4-8 hours. Absorption of the drug into the total blood flow with external application is not of clinical significance.

Neomycin - the bactericidal component of the drug Dexon - is not absorbed through intact skin.

Dosing and administration

The scheme of therapy is determined by the doctor, depending on the complexity of the inflammation and the response of the pathology to the medicine Dexon.

  • For the treatment of the organs of vision, 1-2 drops of the drug are used every 1-2 hours during the day and every 2 hours at night. After completion of the acute phase, the dosage is reduced to 1 drop 5 times per day. The maximum allowable dosage is 30 drops per day per eye. Therapy continues for 7-10 days.

With chronic eye pathology, Dexon drip 1 drop twice a day, with a treatment duration of 14-28 days.

  • For the treatment of auditory organs, droplets drip into the external auditory orifice. Before the drops are applied, the auditory passage is cleaned and wiped with a cotton disc. Optimum initial dosage Dexon can be 3-4 drops up to 3 times a day. After the relief of the condition, the dosage is gradually reduced to the complete cessation of treatment, which usually lasts 7-14 days. The limiting dose per day is 12 drops per ear.
