In some pathological processes in the human body, there is a significant loss of fluid, which threatens dehydration. Lack of water in the body, in turn, provokes the development of serious diseases due to the destruction of the immune system. The kidneys and liver suffer, blood pressure increases, cartilage tissue is destroyed, etc. This problem cannot be solved with one glass of water. Therefore, doctors resort to the help of rehydration therapy drugs, one of which is Izolit.

Indications Isolite
Based on the composition of the drug "Izolit", it can be understood that this drug has a fairly wide range of indications for use.
The most common cause of large fluid loss by the body is considered to be digestive disorders, accompanied by vomiting and a decrease in stool frequency (diarrhea, or simply loose stool). In such a situation, a large amount of fluid is excreted from the body through the intestines as part of liquid feces. This occurs as a result of banal poisoning or for a number of other reasons.
For the drug "Izolit" it does not matter what caused the diarrhea. The indications for use of the drug indicate diarrhea of any etiology.
The drug is also designed to replenish the body's sodium deficiency, which is so necessary for the normal functioning of the central nervous system. When the sodium concentration in the blood plasma falls below the norm (150 mmol per liter), the nervous system suffers first. If the concentration becomes less than 135 mmol per liter, doctors talk about a pathological process that causes hyponatremia.
Sometimes hyponatremia is diagnosed in the postoperative period, which also requires treatment. "Izolit" remains relevant in this case.
Acid-base imbalances in the body, observed in intestinal disorders, fever, diabetes, pregnancy and some other cases, are often caused by insufficient acid metabolism. Lactic, acetoacetic, hydroxybutyric and other non-volatile acids, accumulating in the blood, can cause acetonuria, and in the case of diabetes, even provoke a diabetic coma.
The Izolit solution will help prevent this condition in diabetes, called diabetic metabolic acidosis.

Release form
This drug, as expected, has only one form of release. It is produced as a solution packaged in 0.5 l plastic bottles. For ease of use, the bottles with the solution are equipped with a dropper.
The medicinal physiological solution is prepared on apyrogenic water, which does not contain substances capable of causing an increase in the patient's temperature or other undesirable reactions. The solution is sterile and completely ready for use.
In addition to the water itself, the infusion solution "Isolit" (500 ml) contains:
- sodium acetate (sodium salt of acetic acid to create an alkaline environment) - 3200 mg,
- sodium chloride (sodium salt of hydrochloric acid - the usual saline solution for diluting medicines) - 2500 mg,
- potassium chloride (potassium salt of hydrochloric acid regulates the acid-base balance and replenishes the lack of potassium in the body) - 375 mg,
- sodium citrate (sodium salt of citric acid – regulator of water-electrolyte and acid-base balance of the body) – 375 mg,
- calcium chloride (calcium chloride regulates the calcium content in the body, which is washed out during large fluid loss) – 175 mg,
- magnesium chloride (magnesium chloride to replenish magnesium deficiency in the body, together with calcium chloride acts as a detoxifying agent) – 155 mg.
Pharmacodynamics
"Izolit" is an extracellular replacement solution, it acts as a substitute for extracellular fluid lost as a result of a pathological process in the body. The solution contains all the electrolytes necessary for the body, which are present in the blood plasma, plus a double concentration of potassium and bicarbonate ions.
The content of sodium and chlorine ions in the preparation is such that this preparation can be safely used instead of saline solution used to dissolve drugs administered intravenously.
Pharmacodynamics: the solution is most often used to replenish fluid deficiency due to various pathological processes in the body, as well as to correct the acid-base balance, disturbed due to poor acid metabolism.
In case of diarrhea, the drug not only effectively combats dehydration, but also has a detoxifying effect due to the presence of an antidote (calcium and magnesium chlorides) in its composition.
Dosing and administration
Uses the Izolit solution only for intravenous infusions (droppers) in a hospital setting. The dosage for adults ranges from 1 to 3 liters per day. The pediatric dosage, if necessary, is determined by the attending physician.
The maximum rate of administration of the drug is 500 ml of solution in 30-45 minutes. But most often the solution is administered at a lower rate.
Use Isolite during pregnancy
The instructions do not specify anything about the use of Izolit during pregnancy or in childhood. This means that these issues remain within the competence of the doctor.
Contraindications
Due to the high content of mineral additives (magnesium, potassium, sodium, calcium), the drug is not recommended for use if the patient has been diagnosed with renal failure.
Other contraindications for use include:
- Hypoparathyroidism. This condition is characterized by insufficient production of parathyroid hormone by the parathyroid glands, which causes a pathological decrease in the level of calcium in the blood due to insufficient leaching of calcium from the bones.
- Diabetes insipidus, which is a rare disease caused by insufficient production of the antidiuretic hormone vasopressin by the hypothalamus as a result of malfunctioning of the hypothalamus or pituitary gland.
- Hyperalkalosis is one of the types of acid-base imbalance in the body, when the blood has elevated pH values, i.e. the body becomes alkalized.

Side effects Isolite
As for the side effects of the drug, the main unpleasant aspect of the intake of a large amount of fluid into the body is the need to remove it, which is not so easy to do if the IV is prescribed for 3 or more hours.
Side effects of the Izolit solution can be observed if it is prescribed incorrectly, as a result of which the level of calcium, potassium and sodium in the blood plasma increases significantly compared to the initial values (hyperkalemia, hypernatremia, hypercalcemia). Similar effects can be observed if the drug is administered to patients with renal insufficiency.
Overdose
There are no reported cases of drug overdose.
Interactions with other drugs
There is no information about the interaction of Izolit with other drugs, but this solution should be prescribed with caution during treatment with potassium, calcium, and magnesium preparations, so that the therapy does not lead to an excess of these microelements in the blood, which is no less dangerous than their deficiency.
Special instructions
It is not advisable to prescribe the drug to patients diagnosed with pathologies associated with an excess of minerals included in the solution in the form of salts.
If there is a sodium deficiency in the patient's body, it makes sense to replenish the deficiency by administering the drug "Izolit" with a 0.9% sodium chloride solution.
If there is no pronounced edema syndrome with hyponatremia, Izolit should be administered with 5 and 0.9 percent sodium chloride solution.
If there is a need to replenish the body with potassium, before using the drug, you need to make sure that kidney function is not impaired by undergoing certain examinations.
Attention!
To simplify the perception of information, this instruction for use of the drug "Isolite" translated and presented in a special form on the basis of the official instructions for medical use of the drug. Before use read the annotation that came directly to medicines.
