Desitin has a powerful anti-inflammatory, astringent and adsorbent effect, as well as an antiseptic and drying effect.

Indications Desitina

It is used to eliminate the following disorders:

  • having different types of dermatitis (this includes the diaper form that develops in infants);
  • superficial wounds (abrasions and scratches, as well as cuts, etc.);
  • small in size and mild in severity burns of various origins (thermal, solar or chemical, etc.);
  • diaper rash;
  • manifestations of prickly heat in infants;
  • bedsores;
  • skin ulcers (this includes trophic ulcers);
  • exacerbated stage of eczema;
  • common herpes;
  • purulent skin lesions caused by the activity of streptococci.

Release form

It is released in the form of an external 40% ointment - in tubes with a volume of 57 g. The package contains 1 such tube.

Pharmacodynamics

Zinc oxide is a substance with anti-inflammatory properties and is used locally. It is an amorphous powder with a low toxicity level. The component helps simulate protein denaturation and also helps in the processes of albumin formation. After treating the affected areas of the skin with this substance, the severity of exudative symptoms decreases, and in addition, irritation and inflammation in the tissues disappear. Zinc oxide also forms a protective layer on the skin surface, which prevents the impact of irritating exogenous factors on it.

The medicine is used externally only. Since it absorbs excess sweat and fat from the skin surface, it helps prevent the development of diaper dermatitis in infants, and at the same time prevents the development of inflammation at the earliest stages.

In addition, the drug forms a protective barrier on the affected areas, which helps to neutralize the negative impact of salts, urine and other irritants on the skin, and at the same time helps to soften the skin.

The therapeutic effect and medicinal effectiveness of the drug are due to the active influence of its constituent elements - zinc oxide, as well as fat taken from cod liver, which are evenly distributed on the fat stage, consisting of white petroleum jelly with anhydrous lanolin.

Because lanolin and fish oil with petroleum jelly are natural products, the layer formed on the skin after treatment with the ointment is similar in structure to the natural sweat layer, which has protective functions.

This film is perfectly retained on the mucous membranes and skin surface, while maintaining its properties for several hours. This effect is extremely important at night, when the baby's skin is in contact with diapers and wet clothes for the longest time.

At the same time, Desitin has a moderate astringent effect, due to which it can be used to reduce the severity and eliminate the inflammatory process that develops with minor damage to the integrity of the skin (cuts or scratches) and burns. A similar effect is also observed in the case of using the drug to eliminate signs of eczema.

Dosing and administration

When treating diaper dermatitis in infants, the course should be started after the appearance of such symptoms as irritation, rashes and diaper rash on the skin surface. The affected areas are treated with ointment three times a day. If necessary, the number of treatment procedures can be increased.

Before starting the procedure, you should prepare the skin - wash it with warm water and then dry it thoroughly. It is usually recommended to use the drug during a diaper change. It is recommended to treat the affected area 4-6 times a day.

Usually, it takes 2-3 days to eliminate the diaper dermatitis, after which the medicine can be used as a preventive measure. In this case, the ointment is applied to areas that are then covered with diapers/diapers, and which will potentially be in contact with feces and urine.

It is most advisable to use the ointment for prevention in the evening, before bedtime, and also when it is assumed that the baby will have to remain dressed for a long time (for example, when going to the clinic or on a walk/shopping trip).

To prevent the development of diaper dermatitis, the medicine can be used for a long time. It is also acceptable to treat healthy areas of the skin with the ointment.

A similar method is used in the treatment of diathesis, rashes of allergic and other origins, as well as atopic dermatitis in infants, and in addition to this, in the elimination of diaper rash in newborns.

People with acne should apply the ointment 1-2 times a day (for example, in the morning and then in the evening) for 7-14 days. During the day, it is necessary to clean the skin surface from the remains of the ointment to let it breathe for at least 60 minutes (the best option would be to spend this time outdoors).

If the patient has only single pimples, they need to be treated pointwise before going to bed. The ointment can be used without interruption for 1 month.

To remove burns and wounds, it is necessary to treat the affected area with a thin layer of the medicinal substance, and then, if necessary, cover it with a bandage or a sterile gauze napkin.

It is important to remember that the medication is allowed to be used only to eliminate superficial damage of a non-infectious nature. If there is an infection in the affected area, the use of the ointment is prohibited.

Reviews

Desitin receives mostly positive reviews from patients because it demonstrates a pronounced medicinal effect almost immediately after its application.

The use of the ointment helps to quickly eliminate rashes, pimples and acne, accelerate remission processes in atopic dermatitis, and in addition, regenerative processes in burns and damage to the skin surface. The ointment also completely removes or reduces signs of inflammation. These are the properties noted by patients who have used Desitin.

At the same time, forums often write about the positive effect of the drug in the treatment of newborns. Most mothers of infants write that the drug copes well with redness, diaper rash and rashes when other medications have not had the desired effect.

Along with this, the following are noted as advantages of LS:

  • possibility of application over a long period of time;
  • effectiveness in eliminating negative symptoms even at high air temperatures;
  • can be used by people with extremely sensitive skin.

There are, of course, negative reviews, but they mostly talk about the not very pleasant smell of the ointment. Also, in some people, the use of the drug led to increased skin dryness, although this is noted only occasionally and is mainly associated with strong individual intolerance to the drug.
