Ammonia-anise drops have an expectorant and mucolytic effect.
Indications An aniseed-sugar drops
It is used in complex therapy:
- chronic or acute forms of bronchitis;
- infectious processes affecting the respiratory system (such as tracheitis with pharyngitis);
- infantile whooping cough;
- bronchopneumonia.
Release form
The drug is released in drops - in bottles with a capacity of 25 or 40 ml.
Pharmacodynamics
The medicine has mucolytic, bronchodilator and expectorant properties.
Anise oil has a bactericidal, bronchospasmolytic, as well as antimicrobial and expectorant effect. After taking the drops orally, they penetrate the body through the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract.
Anethole has an irritating effect on the bronchial mucosa, which results in a reflex excitation of the respiratory process. Due to this, the bronchial epithelium is activated, bronchial mucus secretion is stimulated, which leads to the discharge of sputum from the respiratory tract. Aniseed agents also relieve spasms of the bronchial muscles.
Ammonia helps to thin mucus, reducing its viscosity, making it easier to cough up.
Drops are prescribed for both dry and wet coughs. During the wet form of the disorder, they promote the discharge of sputum, and during a strong dry cough, they help produce sputum and secrete glands, and in addition, reduce the pain in the sternum that occurs when coughing. In addition, the drops promote faster healing of the mucous membrane of the respiratory system.
Dosing and administration
The drug is taken orally, a maximum of three times a day (the drops must be dissolved in a glass filled with water a quarter full). Adults require 15 drops per single dose.
The medication can be prescribed to children, but only with strict adherence to the dosage schedule. The portion is calculated as follows - 1 drop/year of the child's age. This dose is taken twice a day.
It is also advisable to use in combination with decoctions of marshmallow root or thermopsis. During therapy, you need to drink a lot of warm liquid.
It is necessary to take into account that the medicine can be used only in a diluted form. Since the drops contain alcohol, people who drive a car or other transport should remember this.

Reviews
Ammonia-anise drops are used for coughs during which there are difficulties with expectoration. This remedy works in two directions:
- stimulation of bronchial secretion and potentiation of sputum separation;
- reduction of sputum viscosity.
This effect helps to simplify the process of coughing it up.
Reviews of the drug show that it demonstrates high efficiency. Thanks to its use, pain inside the sternum, caused by dry cough, is reduced. Another advantage is that all patients talk about the low price of the drug.
Only occasionally do you come across comments in which people complain about an unpleasant taste and the development of burns in the mucous membrane area – these effects occur when using an undiluted substance.
