Chlorquinaldol is an antibacterial drug of artificial origin. It belongs to the category of quinoline derivatives.

Indications Chloroquinaldol

It is used to eliminate infections developing inside the intestines (such as salmonellosis, dysentery, foodborne toxic infections; intestinal infections caused by Proteus, Staphylococcus or other enterobacteria, as well as dysbacteriosis (an imbalance of intestinal microflora)).

In gynecological practice, the drug is used to eliminate vaginal diseases of an infectious and inflammatory nature caused by fungi, bacteria or trichomonads.

Release form

It is produced in tablets of 0.1 g. There are 50 such tablets in a box. It is also produced in tablets of 0.03 g (for children).

It can also be produced as a vaginal suppository.

Pharmacodynamics

The drug has antiprotozoal antimycotic and antibacterial properties. Inhibits the activity of protozoan microbes. Chlorquinaldol is most effective against gram-positive (especially coccal type), and also against individual gram-negative microorganisms.

Dosing and administration

The medicine should be taken orally, after meals. The serving size for adults is 0.2 g, taken three times a day. In mild forms of the disease, 0.1 g of the drug is used, also three times a day. If a person has a severe form of infection (for example, amoebic dysentery), a maximum of 1.2 g of the medicine per day is allowed.

Serving sizes for children:

  • for infants 1-2 years old: a single dose of the drug is 0.03 g, and a daily dose is 0.09-0.12 g;
  • for children aged 3-6 years: single dose size – 0.03-0.06 g, total daily dose – 0.15-0.18 g;
  • for ages 7-10 years: single dose – 0.06-0.09 g, total daily dose – 0.24-0.3 g.

Portion sizes for children are calculated according to the scheme 10 mg/kg of weight. In mild forms of pathology - up to 5 mg/kg.

For the treatment of amebiasis (an infection caused by the action of the dysenteric amoeba; it causes chronic inflammation in the large intestine; ulcers form against the background of this lesion), as well as giardiasis (an infection caused by the activity of giardia), the dose may be increased, but by a maximum of 15 mg/kg.

The course of therapy usually lasts 3-5 days. The maximum duration of treatment is 1 week.

For intravaginal administration - 1 suppository should be inserted into the vagina, once a day, before bedtime. The duration of such therapy is 1 week.

Use Chloroquinaldol during pregnancy

Chlorquinaldol is not prescribed to pregnant women.

During the period of therapy, it is also necessary to stop breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • the presence of hypersensitivity to 8-oxyquinoline derivatives (such as nitroxoline, quinosol, etc.);
  • history of allergic symptoms;
  • severe kidney or liver disease;
  • pathologies affecting the optic nerves;
  • disorders in the PNS area.

Side effects Chloroquinaldol

The use of the drug may cause vomiting, increased heart rate, abdominal pain, skin rash, nausea and headaches. If such symptoms appear, the dosage of the drug should be reduced or its use should be completely discontinued.

However, the use of the drug (as well as other derivatives of 8-hydroxyquinoline) can lead to the appearance of such side effects: myelopathy, peripheral neuropathy, as well as damage affecting the optic nerve.

To avoid such complications, it is necessary to carefully adhere to the regimen for using the medication, without exceeding the established dosages and the prescribed duration of the course.

Interactions with other drugs

Chlorquinaldol reduces the effectiveness of oral antidiabetic drugs, as well as insulin.

It is forbidden to take in combination with iodine and metal salts.
