Candid has a local antifungal and antibacterial effect, and also has a trichomonacidal and antiprotozoal effect.

Indications Candida

It is used to treat the following symptoms or diseases:

  • lichen, which has a multi-colored or pityriasis-like form;
  • mycoses that occur in skin folds or on the feet;
  • erythrasma;
  • superficial candidiasis caused by the activity of mold, yeast and other fungi, dermatophytes and other pathogenic microbes that are sensitive to clotrimazole;
  • mycoses complicated by the development of secondary pyoderma;
  • candidal form of vulvitis or balanitis;
  • epidermal candidiasis;
  • paronychia of candidal nature;
  • candidiasis in the area of the external genitalia or anus;
  • diaper dermatitis of fungal origin.

The oral solution is used in the treatment of stomatitis of candidal etiology.

Vaginal tablets are prescribed for the treatment of infections and superinfections in the genital area caused by the activity of bacteria sensitive to clotrimazole.

In addition, Candid can be used as a sanitation in the birth canal area in preparation for childbirth.

Pharmacodynamics

The antifungal effect of clotrimazole (the active ingredient of the drug, which is an imidazole derivative) develops by destroying the processes of binding ergosterol, which is contained in the cell walls of the fungus. As a result, the degree of permeability of the fungal walls changes, which entails cell lysis.

There is an interaction of fungicidal indicators of the drug with mitochondrial and peroxidase enzymes, which provokes an increase in hydrogen peroxide values to a toxic level. This causes the destruction of fungal cells.

The drug has a fungicidal and fungistatic effect on dermatomycetes (red trichophyton, interdigital trichophyton, flocculent epidermophyton and downy microsporum), yeast-like and mold fungi (from the genus Candida, Candida glabrata, Pityrosporum orbiculare and the genus Rhodotorula).

In addition, clotrimazole has activity against the bacterium that causes lichen versicolor.

Candid effectively affects gram-negative and -positive microbes. In high concentrations, the drug demonstrates activity against vaginal trichomonas.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is poorly absorbed through the epidermis and mucous membranes, which is why there is no systemic effect when the drug is used locally. After external use, a higher concentration of the drug component is observed inside the epidermis than inside the dermis and subcutaneous layers.

After intravaginal administration, the absorption of the drug is 3-10% of the administered dosage. For 2-3 days, low levels of the drug are observed in the blood; the level of the drug in the vaginal secretion is quite high.

The exchange processes of clotrimazole take place inside the liver.

Dosing and administration

Method of using the cream.

The cream should be applied externally, after washing and drying the affected areas of the epidermis. The skin should be cleaned with soap that has a neutral pH. The medicine should be applied in a thin layer, after which it is gently rubbed into the epidermis; this procedure should be carried out 2-3 times per day. The duration of the treatment cycle is determined by the doctor; the duration of this period depends on the severity of the pathology and the localization of the lesion, and along with this on the therapeutic effectiveness of the drug.

For the treatment of dermatomycosis, a minimum of a 1-month course is required, and with the versicolor form of lichen, the cream must be used within 1-3 weeks. Patients with fungal infections affecting the epidermis on the feet must constantly use the cream for at least 14 days after the disappearance of signs of the disease.

The use of the medication depends on the characteristic features of the course of the pathology and its intensity. Usually, the cream is rubbed into the affected area 2-3 times a day. It is also recommended to use it for 3-4 weeks additionally to completely eliminate the possibility of relapse.

Method of using the medicinal solution.

The solution is usually used for extensive lesions of the epidermis, and also for diseases developing in the scalp. When prescribing drops, you must strictly follow the instructions and recommendations of the doctor.

In case of treatment of lesions inside the oral cavity, it is necessary to wet a cotton swab in the solution (10-20 drops of the substance) and treat the affected areas with it; it is recommended to perform this procedure 3-4 times a day, doing the treatment as thoroughly as possible. The medicine is used until the clinical signs of the disease completely disappear.

Powder usage diagram.

The powder should be applied externally to the affected areas of the epidermis, 3-4 times a day. It is important that the treatment is regular - the treatment procedure should be carried out constantly.

The duration of the therapeutic cycle is determined by the severity of the pathology and the location of the lesion. For a complete cure of the disease, it is sometimes necessary to continue therapy even after the elimination of pronounced manifestations.

The therapy usually lasts for 1 month. People with pityriasis versicolor should use the medicine for 1-3 weeks, and people with erythrasma need to continue therapy for 0.5-1 month.

Use of vaginal suppositories.

The tablets must be administered intravaginally. The procedure is performed from a lying position, with the legs also bent. The suppositories should be used once a day, administered in the evening, before going to bed.

For sanitation before childbirth, it is necessary to administer 1 tablet of the medicine (0.5 g of therapeutic substance).

Interactions with other drugs

The effect of clotrimazole is weakened when combined with natamycin, nystatin, and amphotericin B. Therefore, Candid is not recommended for use in combination with the above medications.

There is no data on the development of negative effects of other drugs when the drug is combined with them. This is due to the fact that clotrimazole has weak resorption properties.
