Pharmacodynamics

Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent, a derivative of the substance imidazole. Its therapeutic effect is based on the destruction of the processes of ergosterol binding inside the cell walls of the fungus. This leads to a change in the permeability of such a wall, causing lysis of the fungal cell. At the same time, clotrimazole provokes an increase in hydrogen peroxide indicators inside fungal cells to toxic values. The component has a wide range of medicinal effects.

At low concentrations, the drug has fungistatic properties, and if the dose is increased, it acquires a fungicidal effect.

It has an effect on yeast-like fungi, dermatophytes, microbes that provoke the development of pityriasis versicolor, as well as erythrasma. It also has antimicrobial properties - streptococci, trichomonads and staphylococci with gardnerella vaginalis demonstrate sensitivity to the drug.

Pharmacokinetics

The active element of the cream is poorly absorbed when used locally, which is why the medicine does not have a systemic effect. The indicators inside the deep skin layers significantly exceed the values of the drug inside the subcutaneous tissues.

After intravaginal administration of the tablet, only 3-10% of the dosage is absorbed. High levels of the drug in vaginal secretions continue to be maintained for the next 50-70 hours.

Metabolic processes of the drug take place inside the liver.

Dosing and administration

Scheme of using the cream.

The cream is applied externally only; it should be applied 2-3 times a day to previously cleaned and dried areas of the epidermis, rubbing it in a little.

The duration of the therapeutic cycle is determined by the location of the lesion, as well as the severity of the disease. In case of dermatomycosis, the course lasts 1 month, in case of versicolor lichen - within 1-3 weeks. In case of skin fungi on the feet, it is necessary to continue therapy for another 14 days after the elimination of the manifestations of the disease.

It is forbidden to apply the cream to the skin around the eyes. Also, therapy should not be continued if irritation occurs. People with liver failure should monitor liver function during treatment.

When treating onychomycosis, it is recommended to use a solution, because it has higher penetrating properties.

Mode of administration of tablets.

The tablets are used exclusively intravaginally - they must be inserted in the evening, before going to bed, while lying horizontally on your back, and using a special applicator.

The medicine is allowed to be used during pregnancy, and during this period it is allowed to be administered without using an applicator.

Tablets should be administered daily for 6 days (using 0.1 g tablets). A 3-day course can also be administered (in this case, 0.2 g tablets are used). A repeat course can be administered as prescribed by the doctor.

For sanitization of the birth canal area, a single administration of the tablet is required.

The therapy is not carried out during menstruation, because menstrual flow weakens the effectiveness of the drug.

Along with the woman’s therapy, her partner is also treated to avoid reinfection after recovery.
