For the treatment of cancer, infectious and parasitic diseases, so-called chemotherapy is used, the essence of which is the effect on the causative agent of pathology with the help of poisons and toxins. It's not a secret that such aggressive treatment affects not only the source of the disease, but also negatively affects the entire body. This is due to the fact that drugs aimed at blocking the division of sick cells, inhibit the growth of cells of the oral mucosa, digestive tract, reproductive organs, bone marrow, hair follicles. Damage to normal cells causes various complications: anemia, ulcers of mucous membranes, infectious diseases, bleeding, hair loss, nausea and vomiting. In order to facilitate the effects of chemotherapy, there are antidotes that neutralize its toxic effect, which includes calcium phosphinate.

Indications of the calciumfonolate

Indications for the use of the drug is the use to treat the effects of folic acid antagonists, in particular antitumor agents, methotrexate and 5-fluorouracil, which prevent the formation of red blood cells in the cells of the bone marrow. Calcium phospholinate makes it possible to apply chemotherapy in the volumes needed to fight the tumor.

Release form

Form release - ampoules for injection with calcium salt of folic acid, dried by freezing under vacuum. The package contains, in addition to the ampoules, also an ampoule of sodium chloride solution for diluting the active substance.

Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacodynamics of calciumfolinate is the restoration of metabolism in the body folates - folic acid compounds, which are most required by the bone marrow - the source of red blood cells. It makes it possible to apply high doses of methotrexate, reducing its toxic effects on the body. It is aimed at treating such complications after chemotherapy, as ulcerative stomatitis - the formation of wounds in the mouth, enteropathy - bowel disease. Replenishes the stores of folic acid. The effect of the drug is directed only at healthy cells.

Pharmacokinetics

The largest content in the blood serum comes after intramuscular injection in 40 minutes, after intravenous injection - after 10. Accumulation occurs mainly in the liver, and the half-life is 6.2 hours. It leaves the body mainly with urine, a small part - with feces.

Dosing and administration

The method of application is intravenously and intramuscularly. The drug is diluted in a solution of sodium chloride, after which it is suitable for use for another 12 hours while observing the required temperature regime (not above +8 0 С). The use of methotrexate in a dose of 1-5 g after 6-18 hours is accompanied by injection of 3-10 mg / m 2  calcium phosphinate, 10-20 g of methotrexate requires 10-20 mg / m 2 of the drug. The interval between taking calciumfonolinate should be 6 hours, the full course of treatment - 10-12 doses. With a pronounced toxic reaction to methotrexate, the drug is administered an hour after its administration, the dose is doubled, and the intervals are reduced by the same amount. In the case of chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil calcium, folinate is administered before it is taken.

Use of the calciumfonolate during pregnancy

Studies of the effect of calcium folinate on the fetus and the entire reproductive function in general was not conducted. Use during pregnancy is possible in the event that there is an immediate threat to the life of the expectant mother.

Contraindications

Calciumfonolate is contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity to one of the components that make up the drug, as well as a low level of hemoglobin (anemia) caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. Care should be taken when taking the drug with epilepsy, kidney failure, alcoholism, and also appointing children under 2 years old.

Side effects of the calciumfonolate

Side effects are possible in the form of allergic manifestations, excessive excitation, insomnia, dyspeptic disorders: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Overdose

The drug is not toxic, but its large doses reduce the antitumor effect of the agents participating in chemotherapy.

Interactions with other drugs

Calcium phosphinate is not compatible with a number of drugs in the form of injections - anti-cancer agents: fluorouracil, methotrexate; droperidol, used in anesthesia and psychiatric practice; antiviral drug foscarnet.
