The human body is a complex mechanism that functions due to many chemical reactions and transformations of one substance into another. Nature has ensured that the necessary materials for life come from outside or are produced by the body itself. But there are cases due to various life circumstances or failures in the system of assimilation of necessary resources, that one or another substance is limited in participating in important transformations on which the healthy work of all human systems and organs is based. Calcium-D is a drug that helps to eliminate calcium and vitamin D deficiency, calcium and phosphorus imbalance in metabolic processes.

Indications Calciuma-D

Indications for use of the drug are to replenish the deficiency of these elements necessary for the full existence of people whose diet does not receive the required amount from food products. Calcium-D is used to prevent and treat osteomalacia (softening of bones), rickets, as part of a combined treatment for osteoporosis. The period of pregnancy, when the formation of the child's skeleton occurs in the womb, breastfeeding - a time of calcium and vitamin D deficiency for a woman is also a reason to take the drug. It is also recommended for children after a month of life.

Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacodynamics of the drug - replenishment of the body with calcium, vitamin D, regulation of the exchange between the minerals phosphorus and calcium.

Calcium is a chemical element that plays an important role in key processes occurring in the cells of living organisms. It is important for humans because it is involved in blood clotting, bone formation, the process of saturating teeth with minerals, transmitting nerve impulses, muscle contractions, and producing hormones. With proper nutrition and sufficient consumption of dairy products, the body has enough of this macronutrient, the need for which for adults is 1-1.2 g per day, for children - 1.3 g. In childhood and adolescence, it is very important to receive the required norm of the mineral, since the skeleton grows intensively. Bone strength is formed not only thanks to calcium, phosphorus, which is also an important energy source, also takes part in this. Calcium absorption is impossible without vitamin D. The tandem of these three elements ensures the normal functioning of the bone and other human systems. Calcium-D also prevents the synthesis of parathyroid hormone, which stimulates the leaching of calcium from the bones.

Pharmacokinetics

Let's consider the pharmacokinetics of each element of the drug separately. A third of calcium is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, of which 99% is concentrated in solid structures: bones, teeth. It is excreted from the body with urine, sweat, feces.

Vitamin D3 is absorbed in the small intestine, undergoes a series of metabolic transformations first in the liver, then in the kidneys. It is excreted with feces and urine. The part of the vitamin that did not participate in these processes remains in fat and muscle tissue.

Dosing and administration

The method of administration and dosage depend on the age and clinical condition of the patient. For the prevention of diseases associated with calcium and vitamin D deficiency, the following dosages are recommended:

  • for newborns up to 6 months 7.5 ml, divided into 3 doses, added to boiled water or breast milk;
  • for children aged six months to 6 years - 2.5 ml 3 times a day;
  • for six years old and adults - 2.5 ml once;
  • pregnant and lactating women - 5 ml twice a day.

Calcium-D is taken shortly before or during meals. In case of prolonged exposure to the sun, the dose of the drug is halved. The course of treatment is determined individually, and on average it is 2 months.

Use Calciuma-D during pregnancy

Calcium and phosphorus are the main building material of the future child's skeletal system, and without them, metabolic processes in any cell cannot do: in the formation of the central nervous system, muscle structures of internal organs, including the heart muscle. It is clear that during pregnancy, the need for calcium and vitamin D increases, so it is important to balance the intake of these substances in the womb and ensure the full development and growth of the fetus. Even with good nutrition, the use of the drug during pregnancy will only help in this.

Contraindications

Despite the many positive aspects of the drug, it also has contraindications for use. First of all, calcium-D is not recommended for people with hypersensitivity to one of its components and in case of vitamin D overdose. The following diagnoses impose a taboo on taking the drug: hypercalcemia - increased calcium content in the blood (more than 2.5 mmol / l) and, as a consequence, hypercalciuria - excess of the norm in the urine (more than 4 mg / kg per day). The drug is not prescribed for urolithiasis, decalcifying tumors, renal failure, endocrine disease caused by excessive synthesis of parathyroid hormone, osteoporosis associated with immobility.

Interactions with other drugs

Calcium-D promotes the absorption of iron, tetracycline and fluorine-containing preparations. Simultaneous use with organic compounds of foxglove enhances its effect on the body, and with synthetic antibiotics of the quinolone group reduces the absorption of calcium. It is best to separate the treatment with these drugs in time. For people taking thiazide diuretics, calcium-D can cause hypercalcemia.
