Hot pepper is not only a culinary additive, but also a common component that is often included in the recipes of traditional medicine. Pepper has many useful and healing properties: it is used to prevent and treat ailments. Pepper is especially helpful for colds - it is an indispensable assistant in the treatment of viral and microbial infections. In addition, such a medicine is almost always at hand, since pepper is in every kitchen.
Indications for use
One of the most popular pepper preparations is the pepper patch, the use of which is quite extensive: the patch is used for colds and respiratory diseases, for closed injuries, for muscle, joint and lumbar pain.
Hot pepper is also used locally in the form of rubbing: this procedure warms and activates local blood circulation.
In the East, doctors rub pepper into the chest during viral infections. In this way, they achieve diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory and expectorant effects.
When you have the flu, many people recommend eating pepper mixed with honey and washing it down with hot tea.
Peppercorns are swallowed whole to optimize metabolic processes, to prevent atherosclerotic changes inside the vessels, for a speedy recovery and relief from coughs, sore throats and acute respiratory viral infections.
Few people know, but red pepper contains a considerable amount of vitamins – in particular, C and P. Thanks to vitamins, pepper improves blood circulation, cleanses and strengthens vascular walls, and normalizes cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. Retinol, present in pepper, has a positive effect on vision and the musculoskeletal system.
Hot peppers for colds are not the only use. Regular consumption of peppers has been proven to inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells, especially in cancerous processes that affect the reproductive system.
Among other things, pepper is used in cosmetics and dietetics. Pepper tinctures are often present in the compositions of strengthening and warming ointments, regenerating toothpastes. Pepper is also used as a stimulant of metabolic processes, which is especially important for those trying to lose weight.
Pepper recipes for colds
Traditional healers can offer a lot of different recipes for colds, which include such a component as pepper. For example:
- Infuse capsicum on medical alcohol in a ratio of 1:10. After a week, filter the tincture. For colds, it can be used as follows: rub your feet with the tincture, put on warm socks and go to bed. By morning, the cold will be gone.
- The tincture suggested above can also be taken internally, after diluting it with water: 10 minutes before eating, dilute 30 drops of the tincture in 100 ml of water.
- Rub the tincture into the chest if the cold is accompanied by a cough.
- Mix 1 teaspoon of ground hot pepper with 200 g of linden honey. Take 1 tablespoon up to five times a day until the symptoms of a cold disappear.
- Grind a dozen pepper pods in a blender, add 200 ml of vegetable oil and the same amount of kerosene. Keep the resulting medicine in a warm place for ten days. Then use it for rubbing: rub your feet, chest, back, then put on warm clothes and go to bed.
Black pepper for colds
Black pepper is a well-known spice. In folk medicine, it is used to improve appetite, to increase the secretion of gastric juice, to correct low acidity, to relieve joint pain.
If you regularly consume black pepper, you can not only improve your health, but also get rid of excess weight.
Pepper helps clear the respiratory tract of mucus, prevents the development of cancer and inflammatory changes in tissues.
- If the cold is accompanied by bronchitis or pneumonia, then traditional healers advise mixing 40 g of ground pepper, 40 g of ground coriander and 30 g of fine sea salt, add a little hot water (not boiling!) until it reaches a creamy consistency. Rub the chest with the resulting mixture at night, every evening.
- Wrap one black peppercorn in each raisin. Eat a couple of these raisins 3 times a day half an hour before meals.
- If the temperature rises sharply with a cold, then the following recipe is suggested: 20 g of ground pepper is poured into 200 ml of vegetable oil, boiled on a small burner for half an hour, stirring lightly. The medicine is cooled and used for rubbing the chest and neck.
- Colds and flu are treated as follows: mix 200 ml of kefir, crushed head of garlic and 1 teaspoon of ground pepper. Drink the resulting mixture once.
Red pepper for colds
Red pepper is also used in folk medicine to treat colds. It is applied externally to achieve a warming effect, or taken internally.
- Take a piece of red pepper (about 1 cm) and put it in 200 ml of warm milk. Bring the milk to a boil, then throw the pepper away, drink the hot milk, and immediately go to bed under a warm blanket.
- Mix ground red pepper and honey 1:1. Take 1 teaspoon of the mixture three times a day.
- Shortly before going to bed, pour ground red pepper into cotton socks and put them on. Put on another pair of warm socks on top. Take them off only in the morning, and wash your feet thoroughly with warm water.
- For colds complicated by pneumonia or bronchitis, use the following recipe: add a pinch of dry crushed ginger root, a pinch of red pepper and saffron to 200 ml of boiling milk. Mix, wrap in a scarf and leave to infuse for no more than five minutes. Drink the infusion after dinner just before going to bed.
Red pepper is also useful to add to dishes – this way many people manage to prevent the development of colds. However: if there are problems with the stomach or intestines, then in such cases red pepper is contraindicated.
Honey with pepper for colds
If a cold is just beginning, you can help yourself with the same pepper and honey. The following treatment methods are common:
- Dissolve a little ground pepper (on the tip of a knife) and one teaspoon of honey in 200 ml of warm water. Mix the medicine well and drip 1-2 drops into each nasal passage. You can also gargle with this mixture.
- Honey with pepper can also be taken internally: mix a little liquid honey with ground pepper in a 1:1 ratio. Take 1 teaspoon three times a day. This medicine helps relieve dry cough and improve the condition of a patient with a cold.

However, this method of treatment has long established itself as an effective and fast way to alleviate the condition at the initial stages of the development of a cold. Reviews
Judging by the reviews, pepper really helps against colds, preventing further development of the disease. The use of pepper is especially relevant when a cold strikes suddenly, when there are no necessary medicines at hand. In autumn and winter, such a situation is not uncommon, because the cold and high humidity are ideal conditions for the development of colds and viral infections. In addition, with the onset of cold weather, many people suffer from immunity.
However, pepper does not always help, but only at the first symptoms of a cold. If 2-3 days have passed since the illness, then pepper will no longer bring the expected result. Therefore, try to start treatment as early as possible.
