Biofreeze

Biofreeze is a medication that is prescribed for local treatment – in case of pain in the area of joints and muscles. [ 1 ]
The medicine has cooling, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity. At the same time, it improves blood supply processes inside the affected areas, increases vascular permeability and potentiates drainage of the pathological area. Among the active elements of the drug are menthol and camphor. 1 g of gel contains 0.035 g of menthol and 0.002 g of camphor.
Release form
The drug is released in the form of a gel - inside tubes with a volume of 55 or 110 g. It can also be released inside polymer bottles with a capacity of 452 g or packages with a volume of 5 g.
Dosing and administration
Teenagers aged 12 and over and adults should apply a thin layer of gel to the affected areas up to 4 times a day.
The duration of therapy is determined by the intensity of the disease and the nature of its progression; it should be selected by a doctor, individually for the patient.
- Application for children
The medication is not used in pediatrics (under 12 years of age).
Use Biofreeze during pregnancy
Biofreeze should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- severe intolerance caused by the action of the drug's components;
- diseases or lesions of the epidermis in the area of gel treatment (including dermatitis and eczema, as well as pustular skin lesions);
- whooping cough or BA;
- epilepsy or a tendency to develop seizures.
Side effects Biofreeze
Main side effects:
- epidermal lesions: itching, erythema, rash, urticaria and irritation of the epidermis at the site of gel treatment, contact dermatitis (especially in pediatrics). With prolonged use, sensitivity to the drug may be weakened and the analgesic effect may be reduced. If irritation occurs, stop using the gel;
- immune disorders: possible development of signs of allergy (sometimes delayed);
- problems with the functioning of the nervous system: agitation, headaches and dizziness. In addition, convulsions associated with the activity of camphor may occur;
- Respiratory disorders: application of the drug may increase the risk and frequency of development of bronchial spasms.
Overdose
There is no information on the development of overdose. Negative effects may be potentiated. In case of oral use of menthol, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, dizziness, signs of CNS depression, hot flashes, ataxia, difficulty breathing, drowsiness and reflex respiratory arrest develop.
Gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are performed. Prolonged use over large areas of the body may cause kidney damage.
Interactions with other drugs
Biofreeze must not be combined with other creams, ointments, liniments or sprays.
Storage conditions
Biofreeze should be stored in a place closed to small children, as well as away from open fire and heat. Temperature indicators - no more than 25 ° C.
Shelf life
Biofreeze is approved for use within a 36-month period from the date of production of the therapeutic substance.
Analogues
The analogs of the medicine are Dimethyl sulfoxide, Alorom, Finalgon with Algasan, Roztiran with Red Elephant and Betalgon with Camphor oil. In addition to this, Comfrey ointment with Viprosal, Formic alcohol with Deep hit and Dikrasin.
