Bellastezin is a combination drug containing belladonna extract and benzocaine.

Indications Bellastesin

The medicine is indicated for the elimination of spasms in the smooth muscles of the digestive system (in particular, for the treatment of spasms of the gallbladder), ptyalism (increased salivation), and also for the treatment of hyperacid gastritis.

Release form

Available in tablet form. One blister contains 10 tablets, the package contains 1 blister strip.

Pharmacodynamics

The properties of the medicine are determined by the effect of its constituent components. The spasmolytic (reduced tone of smooth muscles of organs inside the gastrointestinal tract) and antisecretory action (slowing down pancreatic and gastric, as well as salivary, bronchial and sweat secretion, as well as bile secretion) is provided by alkaloids included in the category of atropines, from the extract of belladonna (these are hyoscyamine, apoatropine, as well as scopolamine, etc.). The analgesic effect on the mucous membranes of the stomach and esophagus is provided by anesthesin (or benzocaine).

Dosing and administration

Bellastezin should be taken orally in a dosage of 1 tablet three times a day. It should be swallowed whole, without chewing, and then washed down with water.

The medicine is used in a short course. If the symptoms of the disease do not go away after 3-5 days of treatment, you need to consult a doctor to decide on the advisability of using the medicine in the future.

It is prohibited to exceed the dosage of the medicine indicated in the instructions.

Use Bellastesin during pregnancy

Pregnant women are prescribed Bellastezin only if there is a high probability of a therapeutic effect on the mother's body. At the same time, this probability must exceed the possible risk of developing negative effects on the fetus.

If the drug needs to be used during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued while treatment is in progress.

Contraindications

Among the main contraindications:

  • intolerance to the drug, as well as amide-type anesthetics;
  • chronic heart failure;
  • atrial fibrillation;
  • presence of hyperthermic syndrome;
  • tachycardia or ischemic heart disease;
  • acute bleeding;
  • mitral valve stenosis;
  • elevated blood pressure (severe);
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • muscle weakness;
  • hyperthyroidism or glaucoma;
  • urinary retention;
  • childhood.

Side effects Bellastesin

As a result of taking the medication, the following side effects may develop:

  • deterioration of intestinal motility (may reach atony), weakening of the tone of the biliary tract and gallbladder, constipation, development of dysphagia, as well as problems with urination;
  • dry mouth, feeling of thirst, taste bud disorder;
  • development of mydriasis, increased intraocular pressure;
  • headaches with dizziness, facial flushing, hot flashes, dysarthria, photophobia, weak sweating, and also paresis;
  • development of arrhythmia, coronary heart disease, as well as the sensation of heartbeat rhythm;
  • weakening of excretory activity and bronchial tone (as a result of which viscous, difficult to cough up sputum is formed);
  • skin rash, dryness and itching, as well as urticaria, anaphylaxis and other anaphylactic reactions, as well as foliaceous dermatitis.

If the patient experiences symptoms of adverse reactions, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted.

Overdose

As a result of an overdose of the drug, the patient may experience increased side effects, and in addition to this, hyperthermia or tachycardia, vomiting with nausea, a feeling of irritability, agitation or drowsiness may develop. Blood pressure may also decrease, tremors, convulsions, insomnia and hallucinations may occur. In addition, inhibition of the respiratory and vasomotor centers, as well as suppression of the central nervous system function, are possible.

The symptoms that arise should be treated with gastric lavage, followed by parenteral administration of cholinomimetics and cholinesterase inhibitors.

Interactions with other drugs

As a result of the simultaneous use of Bellastesin and glutethimide, antiarrhythmic anticholinergic drugs, tricyclics, and amantadine, its anticholinergic effect increases.

The combination of the drug with GCS reduces the effectiveness of the latter, and in addition increases the risk of increased intraocular pressure.

Concomitant administration of Bellastesin with atropine-like drugs enhances anticholinergic properties.

As a result of the simultaneous use of the drug with furosemide, the risk of developing orthostatic collapse in the patient increases.

During treatment with Bellastesin, you must refrain from drinking alcohol.
