Bellalgin is a medicine prescribed for gastroenterological diseases. Let's consider its pharmacological features and rules of use.
A combination drug from the category of medicines for the treatment of gastrointestinal tract lesions. Blocks M-cholinergic receptors and contains several active components: metamizole sodium, benzocaine, belladonna extract and sodium bicarbonate.
The peculiarity of the drug is that its substances enhance and complement each other's action. Bellalgin has antispasmodic properties, reduces secretion and acidity of gastric juice, slows down peristalsis. Local anesthetic and analgesic effect eliminates pain in the epigastrium, including in hyperacid conditions.

Indications Bellalgin
The effectiveness of therapy for gastrointestinal diseases depends on their early diagnosis. Various drugs are used for treatment. Let's consider the indications for the use of Bellalgin:
- Heartburn
- Gastralgia
- Intestinal colic
- Gallstone disease
- Spastic colitis
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Hyperacid gastritis
The medicine is prescribed for patients over 14 years of age and for complex short-term therapy of gastrointestinal pathologies.
Release form
The drug is available in tablet form. The package contains one plate of 10 tablets. Each tablet contains the following substances: metamizole sodium 250 mg, sodium bicarbonate 100 mg, benzocaine 250 mg, belladonna extract 15 mg and other auxiliary components.
Pharmacodynamics
With the help of m-anticholinergic action of belladonna extract, tablets reduce motor activity and tone of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and other organs. Pharmacodynamics indicates a decrease in secretion of exocrine glands.
Metamizole sodium and benzocaine (local anesthetic) provide analgesic action. Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the gastrointestinal tract.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, the drug is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Its pharmacokinetics indicate complete absorption and rapid distribution throughout the body. Due to this, the therapeutic effect occurs within 30-40 minutes after administration. Metabolizes in the liver, excreted mainly by the kidneys with urine, and a small percentage with feces and bile.
Dosing and administration
In order for the treatment to be effective, the doctor not only selects the drug, but also prescribes the method of administration and dosage. Bellalgin is used orally after meals. The tablets are not chewed, swallowed whole, washed down with water. The drug is not suitable for long-term therapy, the duration of the course is determined by the doctor, individually for each patient.
For severe stomach pain, take 1 tablet 2-3 times a day. The maximum single dose is 3 tablets, the maximum daily dose is 10 tablets. If no improvement is observed within 3 days of starting treatment, the drug is discontinued or the dose is adjusted.

Use Bellalgin during pregnancy
Gastroenterological diseases in pregnant women have several types. First of all, these are diseases that were present before conception, pathologies that arose during gestation and those that are not associated with a special condition of the female body.
The use of Bellalgin during pregnancy for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases is possible only by medical prescription, when the potential benefit to the mother is higher than the risks to the fetus. If the drug is prescribed during lactation, breastfeeding is stopped.
Contraindications
Bellalgin, like many other drugs for the treatment of the gastrointestinal tract, has contraindications for use. The drug is not prescribed for:
- Individual intolerance to components
- Severe renal and hepatic impairment
- Glaucoma
- Disorders of the hematopoietic system
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia
It is used with special caution for the treatment of patients with pollen allergies, severe cardiovascular diseases, atopic bronchial asthma, as well as for patients whose work involves operating machinery or driving a car. It is not used for pregnant women and patients under 14 years of age.
Side effects Bellalgin
Incorrect use of the drug can cause disorders in many organs and systems. Side effects of Bellalgin have the following symptoms:
- Cardiovascular and hematopoietic system disorders: leukopenia, tachycardia, thrombocytopenia.
- Gastrointestinal problems: bowel disturbances, nausea, dry mouth, thirst.
- CNS: increased weakness, headaches and dizziness, disturbances in sleep and wakefulness.
- Skin allergic reactions: itching, rash, hives, swelling.
Long-term use of the drug causes changes in urine color, pupil dilation, and alkalosis. To treat side effects, stop taking the pills and seek medical help.
Overdose
Exceeding the doses of the drug prescribed by the doctor causes a number of undesirable reactions. Overdose is manifested by an increase in side effects. There is no specific antidote, so gastric lavage, intake of enterosorbents and other symptomatic therapy are indicated. In especially severe cases, medical supervision in a hospital setting is required.
Interactions with other drugs
In order for the treatment to be effective, Bellalgin may be prescribed in combination with other medications. Interaction with other drugs is prescribed and monitored by the attending physician.
- H2 blockers, drugs containing codeine and propanolol enhance the effect of metamizole sodium.
- Tricyclic antidepressants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, allopurinol and oral contraceptives enhance the toxic effect.
Since the tablets contain metamizole, they can be taken simultaneously with indirect anticoagulants, antidiabetic agents, glucocorticosteroids and indomethacin. Such interaction increases the pharmacological activity of Bellalgin.

Storage conditions
Since the drug is available in tablet form, its storage conditions are standard for this category of medications. Tablets should be kept in the original packaging, protected from sunlight, moisture and out of reach of children. The recommended storage temperature should be within 25°C.
Shelf life
Bellalgin has an expiration date during which it can be used. The production date is indicated on the packaging of the drug - 24 months. After this period, the tablets are contraindicated for use and must be disposed of.
