Indications Avandia

Avandia is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is prescribed as monotherapy if a person lacks physical activity and diet therapy. In some cases, it is used with metformin and insulin to improve glycemic control.

Release form

Avandia is a medical product containing rosiglitazone. The tablets are pentagonal in shape and coated with an orange shell. Available in blisters of 7 and 14 pieces, containing rosiglitazone at 4 and 8 mg/tab.

Pharmacodynamics

Avandia is an oral drug and belongs to the group of thiazolidinediones. The main component of the drug, rosiglitazone, reduces blood glucose levels and improves the body's response to insulin. The drug also improves metabolic processes in the body and reduces the level of fatty acids in the blood. Rosiglitazone also has a positive effect on the functions of β-cells, which helps increase the mass of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas and increases insulin levels. The drug has a positive effect on pancreatic secretion, preventing excessive insulin production. All this normalizes the body and promotes recovery from diabetes.

Pharmacokinetics

After a rosiglitazone tablet enters the body, within an hour the beneficial substances begin their work to improve the condition of the blood. Taking the drug after meals significantly increases the time it takes for rosiglitazone to break down in the body. Accordingly, I recommend taking Avandia on an empty stomach. In the human body, rosiglitazone undergoes intensive metabolism by N-demethylation. The substances of the drug are excreted from the body in the form of metabolites through the bladder or in the form of feces 3-4 hours after administration. Accordingly, the drug should be prescribed to people suffering from impaired renal function only after a thorough examination and passing the appropriate tests.

Dosing and administration

Dosage indications are prescribed strictly individually. As a rule, the daily dose of the drug is used in 1-2 approaches. For adults, the daily dose of the drug is 4 mg. If there is no result, then to increase the effectiveness of treatment after 6-8 weeks, the daily dose should be increased to 8 mg/day on the recommendation of a doctor. For patients over 45 years of age, changes in dosage are not applied.
