Antibiotics are almost never used, since they often cause the development of thrush. But sometimes, in exceptional cases, if the cause is a bacterial infection, antibiotics may be prescribed. But first, it is necessary to conduct a microbiological study (bacteriological culture), which will allow you to isolate the pathogen, determine its sensitivity to available antibiotics. Sensitivity may be individual. Also, the optimal dosage and concentration of the drug should be selected individually.
Ciprofloxacin
In most cases, it is recommended to take broad-spectrum antibiotics. For example, ciprofloxacin has proven itself to be one of the most powerful antibiotics that will quickly eliminate bacterial infection and reduce or completely eliminate the symptoms of thrush.
It is advisable to take ciprofloxacin 1 tablet (500 mg) once for three days. It is important to complete the full course of treatment, since the bacteria may not be completely killed. This is dangerous because they will subsequently acquire resistance, and the pathological process will only intensify. Thrush can spread to other parts of the body. Thus, thrush, if improperly treated, often affects the rectum, causing proctitis, and then intestinal microflora disorders. Thrush of the oral cavity and throat also occurs.
In some cases, thrush is accompanied by severe itching, burning, irritation in the perineum, urogenital tract. In this case, it is advisable to prescribe antihistamines.
For example, suprastin has proven itself well. It is taken 1 tablet 2-3 times a day. The dosage is selected by a doctor based on various criteria. It is necessary to take into account that the drug causes drowsiness and slow reaction. This should be taken into account by drivers of vehicles, as well as people whose work requires increased concentration.
If suprastin is ineffective, it is recommended to take loratodin. It is taken 1 tablet per day, since it is a prolonged-action drug. Its duration of action is 24 hours.

Amoxiclav
Amoxiclav is a compound of amoxicillin (a penicillin antibiotic) combined with clavulanic acid, which enhances the properties of amoxicillin. Take one tablet per day (500 mg is the recommended single dose). The course of treatment is three days.
Tetracycline for thrush in men
It is an antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline group of the same name. It is available in tablets with a dosage of 100 mg. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is aimed at inhibiting protein synthesis. It has a bacteriostatic effect, and in some cases (when taking a double dose), it can have a bactericidal effect.
It exhibits high activity against the main groups of microorganisms: these are gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, and rickettsia. They can indirectly affect viruses by destroying them along with the affected cell. However, they should be used with caution, since this is a very strong drug that can, along with the therapeutic effect, also have a negative effect on the immune system, up to its complete destruction in case of overdose.
The drug is well absorbed. About 66% is absorbed into the blood within the first 1-2 hours. Up to 65% of the substance binds to plasma proteins. Selective accumulation of the active substance occurs in the spleen and liver. Particles of the substance are excreted with feces and urine. Also, part of the substance can accumulate in tumors, if any. It is excreted from the body unchanged. Therefore, patients suffering from liver, kidney, and spleen diseases should take it with caution. It is also not recommended for people with a tendency to allergic reactions or with a history of tumors.
When treating thrush, it is recommended to take 20-25 mg/kg 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 1-3 days, and continues even after all symptoms of the pathology have completely disappeared. Sometimes the course of treatment is extended to 7, and even 14 days. Side effects include symptoms such as itching, burning, and redness. The instructions note that the drug cannot be combined with milk and other dairy products, since the antibiotic is destroyed.
The drug is usually well tolerated. However, in exceptional cases, minor side effects are noted, manifested in the form of dyspeptic disorders, dysbacteriosis, dizziness, headache. In some cases, photophobia, increased photosensitivity, allergic reactions are noted. In most cases, antifungal drugs must be prescribed together with tetracycline. This is due to the fact that the antibiotic kills normal microflora, its place is taken by pathogenic and opportunistic strains, including fungi. First of all, it is the fungal microflora that begins to grow, since optimal conditions are created for it. Also, reduced immunity contributes to the intensive growth of fungal microflora.
Tetracycline is not prescribed for increased individual sensitivity, intolerance to individual components of the drug. It should be taken with caution by patients with blood diseases. It is not recommended to combine with drugs containing metals, especially iron. When used simultaneously with penicillin, the activity of tetracycline decreases, up to its complete inactivation. It is also important to consider that tetracycline reduces the activity of contraceptives, increases the effectiveness of anticoagulants.
Gentamicin
Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It belongs to the aminoglycoside group. The main action is bactericidal, that is, aimed at eliminating bacterial infection, reducing its activity and the degree of contamination. Gentamicin has a high degree of activity, but it must be taken into account that it has numerous side effects, in particular, ototoxicity.
It is used to treat thrush, bacterial and inflammatory diseases, prevention and treatment of fungal infection. It is used mainly in cases where other means do not cope with the infection, since it is one of the strongest means. It can have a positive effect on secondary infection, as well as various injuries in the perineum, urogenital tract.
The drug has virtually no contraindications. The exception is increased individual sensitivity, intolerance to the drug or its individual components. It is also not recommended in the presence of infectious diseases, including viral infections, as well as sexually transmitted infections. It is not recommended to prescribe for syphilis, tuberculosis, chickenpox, rubella, herpes, various skin diseases. It is also inappropriate to use the drug for various skin reactions, open wounds. Due to the high toxicity of some components and the ability to penetrate the blood and seminal fluid, it is recommended to refrain from sexual intercourse if you want to conceive a child, during family planning.
Side effects such as burning, itching, irritation may occur. Excessive swelling may develop, tissues are subject to maceration. In severe cases, atrophy of the skin and mucous membranes may develop. With increased skin sensitivity, dermatitis, allergic reactions, contact dermatitis may develop. Increased skin sensitivity, urticaria, pyoderma, furunculosis may develop.
If you take this drug for a long time, you may experience suppression of the adrenal glands. As a result, the state of the immune system decreases, and the colonization resistance of the mucous membranes decreases. It is also worth noting that against the background of decreased resistance of the mucous membranes, intense dysbacteriosis develops, which, in turn, contributes to the further progression of the fungal infection.
As for drug interactions, it was not possible to identify any cases of interaction that would change the properties of the drug. It is used for external use, applied to the skin in a thin layer, directly to the affected areas. It is recommended to apply twice a day - morning and evening. The duration of treatment is strictly individual and is determined by the tolerability of the drug, its effectiveness. On average, it is necessary to be treated for at least 2 weeks, but not more than 5 weeks in order to prevent relapses.
It is advisable to apply medications after preliminary washing, on clean skin. Also, long-term use of the drug may entail systemic side effects affecting various organs and systems.
In exceptional cases, an overdose may develop, which manifests itself in the form of hypercorticism, in which body weight increases, and edema of the skin and mucous membranes occurs. Hypertension may also be observed, which is accompanied by an increase in blood pressure, glucosuria. In case of an overdose, symptomatic therapy is mainly used, aimed at correcting the electrolyte balance. In this case, it is necessary to immediately stop taking the drug.
It is not recommended to use when taking aminoglycoside drugs (antibiotics), as cross-reactions may occur. It is also necessary to take into account that the effect of the drug can be enhanced by applying occlusive dressings to the mucous membranes and perineum.
Thus, thrush in men is treatable, but it requires systematic treatment, strict adherence to the doctor's recommendations, and a comprehensive approach.
