Before you start taking allergy pills, you need to rid your body of the main culprit of your poor health - the allergen. In the case where hypersensitivity to certain allergens is accurately established, confirmed by the results of allergological tests and samples - eliminating the action of the allergen will not be difficult. It is much more difficult for those whose allergy proceeds according to the principle of unclear genesis. Here, before talking about treatment, you need to start with a visit to an allergist.
It is not worth tolerating the unpleasant manifestation of symptoms until the main diagnostic data are obtained. There are a number of drugs that do not cure allergies in principle, but quite successfully relieve their main symptoms. Such drugs include groups of antihistamines, glucocorticoid hormones and hormones of the cromones group.

Every pill is different
Most allergy pills contain a whole range of contraindications, side effects, and can cause individual intolerance. Against the background of existing chronic diseases of internal organs, a predisposition to the occurrence of constant foci of infection, for example, sinusitis, tonsillitis, frequent sore throats - taking any medications should begin after consulting a doctor. It is not necessary to look for highly specialized offices where you can get a consultation with an otolaryngologist, allergist or immunologist. It is enough to visit a general practitioner at the nearest clinic in order to find out basic data about your health, get competent recommendations on the appropriate use of a particular allergy pill.
Taking medications orally or applying them to the skin, mucous membranes in the form of ointments, gels, using inhalations aimed at stopping attacks of allergic bronchial asthma - all this should be justified. As a rule, life filled with constant anticipation of the onset of another allergy attack forces a person to undergo all the necessary preparatory procedures and keep allergy pills that alleviate the condition at hand. Extra caution in handling antihistamines and, especially, hormonal agents should be shown by those to whom allergies "come" for the first time.
Antihistamine allergy tablets of three generations
The most popular group of drugs are antihistamine allergy pills. At present, three generations of allergy pills belonging to this group have been developed and successfully used in practice. The first generation drugs were the first to be used. Such names as diphenhydramine, tavegil, suprastin are well known to a wide range of people. These are the pioneers that were first used as blockers of receptors sensitive to histamine, a substance that provokes all violent allergic reactions.
As blockers, these drugs do their job perfectly, and as allergy pills, in general, they have many contraindications and, most importantly, a large number of side effects. A pronounced hypnotic effect is the most serious effect, which is related to the number of side effects. The hypnotic effect can be supplemented by a scattered consciousness, increased heart rate. Relieving allergy symptoms, a person is forced to give up an active lifestyle and main type of activity.
Taking into account all the shortcomings of the first generation drugs, enhancing the main therapeutic effect, reducing the number of side effects, the developers managed to obtain more modern allergy pills, which were called second-generation antihistamines. They cannot be called completely perfect either. Significant improvements were made to the mechanism of their action, but it was not possible to completely eliminate all the side effects caused by them. Dry mouth, frequent unpleasant manifestations from the cardiovascular system - give grounds for careful use of these drugs in some patients.
And finally, allergy pills, which are third-generation antihistamines. The most effective drugs that have shown good results in treating allergies in patients of different ages, starting from the smallest children. Conducted studies and many years of official use in medicine have shown that this generation of drugs can be considered among the most effective. These allergy pills do not cause side effects, except for individual intolerance to individual components included in the drug.

Hormonal pills for allergies
Despite the fact that hormonal drugs are freely available and sold in pharmacies without prescriptions, it is necessary to remember that they have a strong effect on intracellular mechanisms and can lead to serious disturbances in metabolic processes, having a negative impact on the natural hormonal background of the body, disrupting its balance.
Corticosteroid drugs are used not only as allergy pills, but also as topical agents - ointments, gels, creams. To stop severe attacks of allergic reactions, intravenous jet and drip infusions of hormonal antiallergic agents are used, along with a number of other drugs that lead to relief of the situation.
Before you apply prednisolone, hydrocortisone or dexamethasone to your skin, remember that these are drugs that contain glucocorticoid hormones. Such ointments can very quickly “remove” the rash from the skin, but along with relief, they can cause serious problems. Of course, a one-time use of such ointments is unlikely to cause immediate harm, but as a permanent remedy for relieving skin manifestations of allergies, they are suitable only after a special prescription from a doctor.
Another group of hormonal agents used to treat allergic reactions is cromones. The connective tissue contained in almost all organs of our body contains special mast cells that perform a protective immune function. An allergen entering the body causes an irritating effect on the walls of these cells, leading to the destruction of their membrane and the release of histamine. Histamine, in turn, begins to provoke a violent chain reaction, which is the basis of any allergy. Allergy pills based on cromones - ketonifen, intal - help stabilize mast cell membranes, thereby reducing the release of histamine and alleviating the allergic condition. The advisability of taking cromones should be confirmed by the results of diagnostic laboratory tests and should be carried out under the strict supervision of a doctor, preferably an allergist.
Often there are situations when allergy treatment begins with the wrong drug, ineffective antiallergic drugs are taken for a long time, as a result of which another type of allergic reaction is added - drug allergy. And a vicious circle begins, in which pills for allergies are taken for pills. To avoid this, you need to adhere to the correct approach to the process of complex treatment and recovery of the body.
