When administered, Acupan has a powerful and stable analgesic effect on the patient’s body.
The main therapeutic effect of the drug is developed by significantly slowing down the processes of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake, which occur through synapses. The active element of this medication is the component nefopam. It has, among other things, also an insignificant m-anticholinergic medicinal activity for the patient.
Indications Akupana
It is used in case of development of pain of various origins and intensity – in such disorders:
- after performing operations;
- injuries;
- myalgia;
- relief of pain during childbirth;
- toothache;
- colic in the liver or kidney area, etc.
Release form
The drug is released in the form of injection liquid, inside ampoules, 5 pieces inside a special tray.

Pharmacodynamics
Acupan is used to eliminate tremors that develop after operations. In addition, it should be clarified that the drug does not have an antipyretic or anti-inflammatory effect, and does not suppress respiratory processes and does not affect the activity of intestinal peristalsis.
Pharmacokinetics
Dosing and administration
It is very important during therapy to select a dose that will correspond to the patient’s reaction and the severity of the pain that has appeared.
When using the medication intramuscularly, the injection should be as deep as possible. The size of a single dose is 20 mg. If necessary, the medication can be administered at 6-hour intervals. A maximum of 0.12 g of the substance can be administered per day.
Intravenous infusion procedures should be long – at least 15 minutes. During the infusion, the patient should lie down. A single dose is 20 mg. If necessary, the medication can be used at 4-hour intervals. A maximum of 0.12 g of the drug can be used per day.
When administering drugs, you can use standard infusion fluid - 5% dextrose or 0.9% NaCl.
It is recommended to use the medicine in the proportion of 1 ampoule of the substance per 50 ml of infusion fluid. The duration of treatment can be a maximum of 8-10 days.
Use Akupana during pregnancy
It is prohibited to prescribe Acupan during pregnancy.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- strong personal sensitivity to the drug;
- epilepsy or seizures;
- risk of urinary retention due to prostate or urethral disease;
- the likelihood of developing glaucoma in the acute phase;
- breast-feeding.
Caution is required when administering to people with renal or hepatic impairment and tachycardia, as well as to the elderly.
Side effects Akupana
Side effects include:
- vomiting with nausea;
- drowsiness, increased blood pressure, hyperhidrosis, hallucinations, tachycardia, atropine-like symptoms and convulsions;
- urticaria, anaphylaxis, intolerance and Quincke's edema.

Interactions with other drugs
Combination with m-anticholinergic drugs and sympathomimetics may cause potentiation of negative signs of Acupan. For this reason, imipramine antidepressants, atropine-like antispasmodics, disopyramide with m-anticholinergic antiparkinsonian drugs, substances blocking the activity of H1 histamine endings, and phenothiazine neuroleptics are not used together with it.
Shelf life
Acupan can be used for a period of 3 years from the date of release of the therapeutic agent.

Not for use by children under 12 years of age.

Analogues
Analogues of the drug are Nefopam, Cardiomagnyl with Oxadol, as well as Analgin, Paracetamol and Amizon.

Reviews
Acupan receives very few reviews, but the available comments note that the drug has high therapeutic effectiveness. When used after operations, it provides a high-quality analgesic effect for almost 8 hours.
Some patients report the development of certain side effects when administering the drug, including fever, breathing problems and dizziness.
