Lekor is an antimicrobial medication used to treat intestinal infections. Contains nifuroxazide.

trusted-source

Indications The doctor

It is used in the following conditions:

  • acute diarrhea of an infectious nature;
  • chronic course colitis and enterocolitis with infectious etiology;
  • combination therapy for intestinal dysbacteriosis;
  • prevention of infection in the gastrointestinal tract after surgery.

Release form

The release of therapeutic substance is implemented in capsules, 12 or 24 pieces inside the jar.

Pharmacodynamics

Nifuroxazide is an antiseptic, acting inside the intestine, a derivative of the element 5-nitrofuran.

Demonstrates the activity of a relatively large number of bacteria that provoke the appearance of infections inside the intestines (this includes mutant strains that are resistant to other antimicrobial drugs):

  • Gram (+): Staphylococcus;
  • Gram (-): enterobacteria, citrobacteria, shigella with Yersinia, E. Coli with salmonella, Klebsiella and Protea, and also cholera vibrio.

It does not show activity regarding bacteria from the pseudomonad family and Proteus (subtype of Proteus inconstans), and at the same time strains from subcategory A of the family Vacidentia alcalifaciens.

There is an assumption that the drug slows down the activity of dehydrogenases and destroys the protein binding in pathogenic microbes. With the use of medium therapeutic rations it develops a bacteriostatic effect, and at elevated levels it develops a bactericidal effect. Drug effect is observed from the first hours of therapy.

Therapeutic portions of medication almost do not disturb the balance of intestinal microflora. The drug does not cause the emergence of resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria and cross-resistance with respect to other antimicrobial drugs, due to which, when needed, it can be prescribed in combination treatment with general medicines for infections with a generalized nature.

In case of use with infections affecting the intestines of viral etiology, prevents the occurrence of superinfection of bacterial origin.

Pharmacokinetics

The medication is almost not absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract, forming a high rate of therapeutic element inside the intestine. Such pharmacokinetic parameters lead to the development of an enteral disinfecting effect only; the drug does not have a general antibacterial effect and does not lead to the appearance of general toxic signs.

The excretion of drugs is carried out along with the feces. The drug does not affect the biochemical and clinical parameters of blood.

Use The doctor during pregnancy

When nifuroxazide was used in pregnant women, embryotoxic and teratogenic activity was not observed, but due to the lack of an adequate number of drug tests during pregnancy, it is allowed to use it exclusively from the doctor’s prescription and under his control (in situations where the likely benefit is more expected than fetus).

There is evidence that nifuroxazide is not absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract and does not pass into the mother's milk, but there is not enough clinical information, so Lekor is prescribed very carefully during lactation.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated to appoint persons with a strong intolerance against the elements of the drug (among them are also other derivatives of 5-nitrofuran).

Side effects The doctor

Lekor is usually tolerated without complications; only occasionally symptoms such as nausea, transient abdominal pain, potentiation of diarrhea, and vomiting appear. With the development of manifestations associated with the gastrointestinal tract, which have a weak intensity, it is not necessary to use a special treatment or stop the administration of nifuroxazide, because these symptoms disappear independently.

People with intolerance to nitrofuran derivatives may have granulocytopenia. Symptoms of allergy usually have an epidermal form (itching, pustus, urticaria, and rash). Occasionally, as in the case of other nitrofuran derivatives, the development of severe symptoms of intolerance (among them anaphylaxis and angioedema) and dyspnea are possible.

With the appearance of side signs that are severe, you need to cancel the medication and perform symptomatic measures. Also in the future, the patient should abandon the use of nifuroxazide and other nitrofuran derivatives.

Interactions with other drugs

Nifuroksazid forbidden to combine with sorbents, and in addition, with medications containing ethyl alcohol.
