Ferumbo is an antianemic medicine of iron (3), which is taken orally. Through the use of drugs, the lack of an element of Fe inside the body is replenished and the processes of erythropoiesis with hemopoiesis are stimulated.

Course therapy leads to rapid regression of laboratory and clinical manifestations of anemia. The combination of Fe (3) hydroxide and polymaltose is stable and does not secrete iron in the form of free ions, due to which it does not have some negative effects (staining of teeth, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, taste of metal), which are found in Fe (2).

The drug shows high safety performance.

Indications Ferumbo

It is used with a hidden lack of iron, as well as severe clinical symptoms of anemia of iron deficiency.

It can be used to prevent Fe deficiency during pregnancy or lactation, in women of reproductive age, as well as in adolescents and children, as well as certain groups of adults (for example, elderly people or vegetarians).

Release form

The release of drugs is made in the form of a syrup, inside the bottles of 50 ml or jars with a volume of 100 ml. The box contains 1 bottle or jar, complete with a special dispenser.

Pharmacodynamics

The movement of the Fe element inside the blood plasma is performed with the participation of γ-globulin transferrin, the binding of which is performed inside the liver. In combination with transferrin, Fe moves to the cells inside which it is involved in the binding of myoglobin to hemoglobin, as well as individual enzymes.

Absorbed iron is stored in the form of a compound synthesized with ferritin - mainly inside the liver. Trivalent Fe is a member of heme formation, which increases hemoglobin values.

The use of the drug leads to the gradual elimination of laboratory and clinical (fatigue with weakness and dizziness, as well as skin dryness and tachycardia) signs of iron deficiency.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral use of a polymaltose compound of Fe (3) hydroxide, the drug is actively absorbed inside the small and 12 duodenal ulcer (the stronger the iron deficiency, the higher the degree of its absorption). Active absorption of the drug containing Fe (2), eliminates the appearance of intoxication, possible in the case of the absorption of simple salts of Fe (2), the gradient of the indicators. The iron contained in the Fe (3) hydroxide combination, along with polymaltose, does not possess prooxidant activity, which is observed in simple Fe (2) salts.

Dosing and administration

Syrup is consumed with food or immediately after it. You can mix it with vegetable or fruit juices, as well as nutritious infant formulas.

Daily portion is used for one or several uses.

The size of the dosage of drugs and the duration of the therapeutic cycle depend on the severity of Fe deficiency.

In order to correctly calculate the portion of the medicine, it is required to use the dispenser provided in the kit (with measuring marks 0.5-2.5 ml). 1 ml of syrup contains 10 mg of Fe.

To eliminate the clinical severity of the lack of an element of Fe, Ferumbo is used taking into account such instructions:

  • infants up to 12 months of age - 2.5-5 ml of syrup (25-50 mg of substance) per day;
  • age groups 1-12 years - 5-10 ml per day (0.05-0.1 g);
  • Lactating women, adolescents older than 12 years and adults - 10-30 ml per day (0.1-0.3 g);
  • gestation period - 20-30 ml per day (0.2-0.3 g).

Therapy is carried out in the described portions until the normalization of hemoglobin blood parameters. Further, in order to replenish the Fe depot inside the body tissues, the medicine is taken for several more subsequent months in dosages that are administered in the treatment of latent iron deficiency (half of the therapeutic portion). The full therapeutic cycle is usually at least 4-6 months, until the serum ferritin levels stabilize.

With a hidden lack of iron, as well as to prevent the development of Fe deficiency, the following schemes are used:

  • age subcategory 1-12 years - 2.5-5 ml of syrup per day (25-50 mg);
  • adolescents from 12 years of age and lactating women - 5-10 ml per day (0.05-0.1 g);
  • pregnant women - 10 ml per day (0.1 g).

Therapy for latent iron deficiency lasts at least 1-2 months (at this time it is necessary to track the ferokinetic values).

To prevent the development of iron deficiency during pregnancy, you need to use 5-10 ml of syrup (0.05-0.1 g Fe) 1 times a day in late periods.

Use Ferumbo during pregnancy

Prolonged use of the drug in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters did not cause adverse effects on the woman and the fetus. There is also no information about the negative effects of Ferumbo with the introduction of the 1st trimester.

The use of drugs for breastfeeding or pregnancy is allowed only with the appointment of a doctor.

Contraindications

The main contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to the elements of the drug;
  • a surplus of Fe inside the body (hemosiderosis or chromatosis);
  • types of anemia that are not associated with a lack of Fe (for example, aplastic, hemolytic, or pernicious);
  • a disorder of the utilization of the element Fe (anemia provoked by lead intoxication, thalassemia or sideroblastic type of anemia);
  • esophageal stenosis or other obstructive diseases affecting the digestive system and, moreover, diverticulum or intestinal blockage;
  • regular blood transfusions;
  • use with parenteral forms of Fe.

It is forbidden to take in the case of a decrease in serum values of Fe, as well as in the case of anemia, provoked by tumors or inflammations.

Side effects Ferumbo

Main side effects:

  • disorder of digestive work: the development of pain in the abdominal area is rarely possible (this includes epigastrium), bloating, vomiting, overcrowding in the epigastric area, nausea, dyspepsia, diarrhea, or obstruction;
  • immune lesions: urticaria, pruritus, anaphylaxis or rashes;
  • in connection with the content in the composition of preservatives (propyl parahydroxybenzoate with methyl paraben) signs of allergy may appear (they may be delayed);
  • other: single tooth staining can occur in children; fecal darkening associated with the secretion of unabsorbed Fe (without clinical consequences) can also occur.

Prolonged and unjustified administration of Fe can provoke hemosiderosis and constipation.

With the development of negative symptoms should be a short time to reduce the portion of the drug.

Often negative signs are short-term and mild.

Interactions with other drugs

When combined with antacids, there is a decrease in iron resorption.

Combining with tocopherol may weaken the therapeutic activity of the element Fe.

Separate food products (dairy products, bread, eggs, coffee with black tea, as well as raw cereals) inhibit the absorption of Fe salts.

Fe salts weaken the resorption of penicillamine, tetracycline, and, in addition, sulfasalazine used in combination with them.

Citric and ascorbic acids contribute to the absorption of the Fe component.

Ferumbo does not affect the test data regarding the presence of hidden blood, which allows you to continue therapy during the execution of this test.

Application for children

Newborn children can be prescribed medication only with the permission of the doctor, with appropriate indications.

It is forbidden to use syrup for therapy with a hidden lack of Fe or to prevent its deficiency in children under 1 year of age.

Analogs

Analogues of the drug are drugs Maltofer, Gemozhet with Proffer and iron saharat.

Reviews

Ferumbo receives mostly good reviews from patients. The drug demonstrates high efficiency, providing the desired result. Also of the advantages note the low cost and the form of release - a sweet syrup is much easier to give to young children.
