Remantadin is an antiviral medication.

Rimantadine hydrochloride is an amidantane element derivative; demonstrates strong antiviral effect. This component is effective against influenza virus subtype A2, as well as B.

Remantadin slows down viral replication in the early stages of the cycle, possibly preventing the formation of the virus envelope. In genetic testing, it was revealed that the specific gene protein (virion-M2) plays an important role in the antiviral effect of the component relative to the influenza A virus.

Pharmacodynamics

The drug has antiviral activity, slowing down the early phase of viral reproduction (after its passage into the cell) and blocking the transfer of viral genetic material into the cell cytoplasm.

It affects influenza virus subtype A, as well as tick-borne encephalitis (the so-called arbovirus). It is effective when applied at the initial stage of infection (within 6-7 hours after the onset of symptoms), thereby reducing the incidence of influenza and reducing the intensity of symptoms.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug, although at low speed, is fully absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract. Synthesis with blood protein - 40%. Indicators of the active element inside the nasal secretions 50% higher than its plasma level. Metabolic processes develop inside the liver.

The term half-life of a drug is 24-30 hours. Excretion is done through the kidneys.

If you do not adjust the dosage to persons with kidney failure, they accumulate the drug with the achievement of toxic indicators.
