Pharmacodynamics
The drug has bacteriostatic properties, acting exclusively on the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It should be noted that in comparison with other antituberculosis drugs this drug has a less pronounced effect. If it is used as a monotherapeutic agent, resistance to aminosalicylic acid develops rather quickly.
Pharmacokinetics
After use, the medicine is quickly absorbed, getting inside the blood serum, as well as the tissues of the body.
Metabolism mainly occurs in the liver, beginning after the 0.5-1 hour after taking the medication. Inside the liver, the process of acetylation of the substance is carried out, followed by its connection with glycine.
About 90-100% of the portion consumed is excreted per day with urine.
Dosing and administration
You need to take the medicine 0.5-1 hour after eating, drinking it with mineral water or milk.
For children weighing between 10-40 kg, doses are prescribed at a rate of 200 mg / kg per day. This portion should be divided into 3-4 uses.
For children weighing more than 40 kg, as well as adults, the dosage is 5 grams of medication taken twice per day.
If the patient has a poor tolerability of drugs, it is necessary to reduce dosage.
The length of the course depends on how the disease progresses, and on the degree of its severity. Usually it lasts a minimum of 3-5 months. If necessary, it is allowed to prolong treatment.
Use of the sodium aminosalicylate during pregnancy

Small amounts of aminosalicylic acid are excreted with the mother's milk, which is why it is required to refuse breastfeeding for the period of therapy.
Side effects of the sodium aminosalicylate
Taking medication can cause some side effects:
- sometimes: vomiting with diarrhea and nausea, as well as hypokalemia;
- Occasionally: skin lesions, arthralgia, fever, mononucleosis-like infectious-type syndrome, encephalitis with lymphadenopathy and jaundice. In addition, hepatosplenomegaly, kidney failure, leuko- and thrombocytopenia, as well as agranulocytosis, hemolytic form of anemia (in people with deficiency of G6PD element), and eosinophilia;
- single: there are psychoses;
- in the case of long reception of large portions of drugs: develops goitre or hypothyroidism.
Overdose
Manifestations of intoxication: vomiting with nausea, as well as diarrhea. Perhaps the development of psychosis or increased severity of side effects.

Interactions with other drugs
Aminosalicylic acid prolongs the half-life of isoniazid.
Negative manifestations of salicylates with aminosalicylates have an additive character.
Probenecid is able to potentiate the toxic properties of aminosalicylate - it disrupts the process of its excretion through the kidneys and increases its plasma values.
