Widespread skin lesions by various types of human papillomavirus (HPV) lead to the appearance of dermatological defects, which are commonly called warts. A remedy such as the Wartner pen for removing warts can help solve this problem.
Indications Wartner pens
The purpose of the Wartner Wart Pen applicator pen (manufacturer - Pharmaspray BV, Netherlands) is to independently (at home) remove common warts (verruca vulgaris) on the skin of the extremities, including plantar warts (verruca plantaris).
Similar indications for the use of Wartner Cryotherapy Wart Remover (manufacturer – Omega Teknika, Ireland) or Wartner cryo for warts.
Release form
The Wartner Verruca & Wart Removal Pen is a device that uses the acid-liquid method to remove warts. The gel contained in the Wartner device is a composition with TCA - concentrated trichloroacetic (trichloroethane) acid, which cauterizes the wart tissue and causes long-term desquamation (peeling).
Another form of the anti-wart remedy of this brand is Wartner Cryotherapy (Wartner cryo) - aerosol (a canister with an applicator); it freezes these formations on the skin (by freezing to -50°C). This temperature is achieved by evaporation of the gas mixture DMEP (dimethyl ether + propane) contained in the canister, which is applied to the surface of the wart in the form of foam using an applicator, which leads to direct damage to keratinocyte cells and their necrosis.
Dosing and administration
These products are used externally. The instructions for the Wartner and Wartner Cryo pens contain a detailed description of how to use them, and the manufacturers repeatedly emphasize the importance of following these rules.
To determine the correct amount of gel to apply to the wart, the applicator pen has a "twist-and-turn" mechanism. When using the Wartner pen for the first time, to completely fill it with gel, you need to turn the handle on the top of the device completely clockwise (until a drop appears). One drop is enough to treat one medium-sized wart. The gel is applied twice a day for four days in a row (if the wart is small, once is enough); the gel is absorbed into the wart tissue within a quarter of an hour (that is, this is the time it takes to dry).
The peeling skin (which usually peels off for about a week) can be washed off with warm running water. After the wart disappears, a pink spot of regenerated skin remains, which will eventually return to its normal color.
After pressing the valve of the Wartner Cryo applicator (which should not exceed 3 seconds), a pause of 20 seconds should be maintained, after which cold foam is applied to the surface of the wart (for 20-40 seconds). In this case, the wart turns white, and a slight tingling sensation occurs, and a pustule (blister) appears under the wart. One wart can be frozen with Wartner Cryo no more than three times - with an interval of 14 days after each procedure.
- Application for children
The use of these products by children is only possible after they reach four years of age.
Use Wartner pens during pregnancy
These wart removal products are not used during pregnancy and lactation.
Contraindications
According to the official instructions, the Wartner and Wartner Cryo pens are contraindicated for use:
- for removing warts located on the face, in the armpits and groin area; papillomas on the mucous membranes; dark nevi similar to warts, as well as warty formations on the skin of other parts of the body;
- to get rid of warts with hairs growing on them;
- if there is irritation, itching and/or hyperemia of the skin at the site of intended use;
- in cases of a history of diabetes mellitus or peripheral venous congestion.
Side effects Wartner pens
As noted in the included instructions, Wartner Wart Pen should be applied very carefully, without touching the skin around the wart, otherwise it may be damaged, which may leave a scar after healing.
Wartner Cryo should also be used to avoid scarring and nerve damage (which causes loss of skin sensitivity in the frozen area of skin).
Overdose
Using too much gel with the Wartner pen can cause a very painful chemical burn with redness and ulceration of the skin area adjacent to the wart. If intense pain occurs, the gel should be quickly washed off with cool water.
Freezing a wart with Wartner Cryo without following the instructions (for too long) can result in local tissue necrosis.
Storage conditions
Store these products in a dry place, out of reach of children; the optimum temperature is +18-25°C.
Shelf life
The shelf life is two years.
Analogues
Analogues of the Wartner pen: EndWarts Pen applicator pen (with formic acid), Undofen Wart Verruca Remover Pen (Omega Pharma, Belgium), Walgreens Wart Remover Pen (with salicylic acid), etc.

Reviews
The ability to get rid of a wart on your own, without resorting to the help of dermatologists or cosmetologists, as well as the relative ease of use of the Wartner pen (or its analogues) explains the positive reviews regarding its use.
And freezing warts with a mixture of dimethyl ether and propane using Wartner Wart and Verruca Remover, according to clinical studies, is as effective as the classic use of liquid nitrogen in a medical setting.
