Vestinorm has a histamine-like effect, which helps improve microcirculation processes. The principle of therapeutic effect has been studied only partially; there are several theories regarding the effect of the drug.

Betahistine is an artificial histamine analogue, has an effect on H1-endings, acts as an antagonist of H3-endings, and also demonstrates weak activity in relation to histamine H2-endings. The active element helps to improve blood flow processes inside the vessels of the inner ear, relaxing the sphincters located in the microcirculatory system of the inner ear. At the same time, the drug enhances blood circulation inside the basilar arteries.

Indications Vestinorm

It is used in cases of Meniere's syndrome or disease, which is characterized by nausea, severe dizziness, tinnitus, hearing loss and vomiting.

Along with this, the medication is prescribed to eliminate the symptoms of dizziness (of a vestibular nature) that develop in various pathologies (postoperative dizziness during neurosurgical or ophthalmological procedures, post-traumatic encephalopathy, labyrinth, vertebobasilar insufficiency, atherosclerosis of the cerebral vessels and vestibular neuritis).

Release form

The medicinal substance is released in tablets (volume 8 or 16 mg) - 10 pieces in a blister pack. In a box - 3 or 6 packs.

Pharmacodynamics

The drug helps to create vestibular compensation and also increases the speed of vestibular activity restoration processes by regulating metabolism aimed at histamine release.

The drug's effectiveness has been confirmed by tests conducted with the participation of people suffering from Meniere's disease and vestibular disorders. This subgroup of people showed a decrease in the intensity of attacks and a reduction in their frequency.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking the tablets, the active element is absorbed at high speed in the gastrointestinal tract. After this, betahistine undergoes metabolic processes with the formation of a metabolic component - 2-pyridyl acetonate. In case of taking the drug with food, the plasma indices of the metabolic element are slightly lower than in case of taking it on an empty stomach; there is also a slowdown in the absorption process from the gastrointestinal tract. The metabolic component reaches Cmax values after 1 hour after taking the drug.

The half-life is 3.5 hours. Excretion of 2-pyridylacetonic acid occurs mainly in urine; a small part of the substance is excreted by the kidneys and with feces.

Protein synthesis rates are extremely low – about 5%.

Dosing and administration

The medication must be taken orally. It is recommended to do this after meals, swallowing the tablet whole without chewing.

The duration of treatment and the portion size are selected by the attending physician, taking into account the personal characteristics of the patient and the effectiveness of the therapy.

It is recommended to use Vestinorm in the early stages of the pathology to prevent its progression or hearing loss in the patient.

The daily serving size is between 24-48 mg.

The frequency of taking the medicine varies depending on the dosage. At a dosage of 24 mg, 1 tablet should be taken 2 times a day. Tablets of 16 mg are taken 3 times a day, 0.5-1 piece. The medicine of 8 mg is taken in the amount of 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.

The average duration of therapy is several months. Improvement of the patient's condition sometimes occurs only after 2-3 weeks of daily use of the drug.
