Vaginal suppositories for infections are drugs that are prescribed for the treatment and prevention of vaginitis. The cause of the disease can be viruses, bacteria, fungi, which are transmitted in most cases sexually.
In order for the treatment result to be correct and effective, it is fundamentally important to choose the right medicine, paying attention to its chemical composition and form of release. The effect of the medicine will depend on this choice.
Vaginal suppositories are prescribed for the treatment of most types of sexually transmitted infections, because this type of medicine acts directly on the source of the disease. It is also important to remember that the active components of suppositories can freely penetrate into the human blood, so it is necessary to strictly adhere to the specified dosage of the drug.
Suppositories used to eliminate female genital infections should be inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina. It is best to perform this operation before going to bed, because the suppository begins to dissolve immediately when it gets inside, and when moving, the contents may flow out. This will not give the desired effect in treatment.
Popular suppositories for treating vaginal infections include Hexicon, Mikmiror, Pimafucin, Betadine, and Terzhinan.
Hexicon
A disinfectant and sanitizer whose active ingredient is chlorhexidine.
The active substance of the drug has a pronounced and fairly rapid effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria Treponema pallidum, Chlamidia spp., Ureaplasma spp., Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides fragilis, protozoa Trichomonas vaginalis, and Herpes virus.
When used intravaginally, Hexicon is almost not absorbed and does not have a systemic effect.
Indications for use: for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (syphilis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, genital herpes), infectious and inflammatory complications in obstetrics and gynecology (before surgical treatment of gynecological diseases, before childbirth or abortion, before and after the installation of an intrauterine device, before and after diathermocoagulation of the cervix, before intrauterine examinations). Hexicon is also used to treat bacterial vaginosis, cervical erosion, and colpitis.
The drug is contraindicated for use in case of individual intolerance to the active component of the drug.
The use of vaginal suppositories for infections in pregnant women is not contraindicated.
Method of administration and dosage: Hexicon is used intravaginally. For prevention, it is effective to use one suppository of the drug no later than 2 hours after sexual intercourse.
For treatment, it is necessary to use 1 suppository twice a day. The period and duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease and its nature, and can last 7-10 days. If urgently needed, treatment can be extended to 20 days.
Interactions with other drugs: Hexicon should not be used with detergents containing anionic groups (saponins, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose), with soap-containing products. The presence of soap can deactivate chlorhexidine. It is also not recommended to use the drug simultaneously with iodine.
Possible side effects include itching, allergic rashes, and a burning sensation at the site of suppository insertion.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºС.
Shelf life is 2 years.

Pharmacodynamics: the active ingredients of the drug Macmiror nifuratel and nystatin have an effective effect on the destruction of trichomonads, bacteria and fungi. They are also effective in the treatment of candidiasis.
The combination of active components nifuratel and nystatin provokes active resistance to the negative impact of fungal microbes, destroys trichomonads and bacteria. With such a connection of two active components, there are no negative consequences. Moreover, nifuratel complements and enhances the antimicrobial effect of nystatin and vice versa.
