Zitrox is an antimicrobial drug that belongs to the azalide subcategory, a group of macrolide antibiotics.

Indications Zithroxa

It is used in the following situations:

  • when infectious diseases appear in the ENT organs or lungs;
  • in the development of infectious diseases inside the genitourinary organs;
  • for infections affecting soft tissues and skin.

Release form

Available in tablets - 250 mg (6 tablets in a strip) or 500 mg (3 tablets in a strip). The pack contains 1 strip of tablets.

Pharmacodynamics

The drug affects the activity of extra- and intracellular microbes. Among the bacteria against which the drug has an antimicrobial effect are:

  • aerobes of the gram-positive type (this includes those that produce b-lactamase): pneumococci with streptococci agalactiae, pyogenic streptococci, as well as Staphylococcus aureus, Str. Viridans and individual streptococci included in subclasses C, F, and G;
  • aerobes from the gram-negative subclass: parapertussis/whooping cough bacilli, campylobacter, located in the small intestine, gardnerella, moraxella, Ducrey's bacillus, influenza bacillus, H. parainfluenzae, intestinal bacteria, bacteria that cause dysentery, legionellosis, salmonellosis or gonorrhea and yersiniosis, as well as meningococci;
  • anaerobes: Clostridia perfringens, Bact. Bivius and peptostreptococci.

The following microbes are sensitive to the drug: syphilis pathogens, mycoplasma with chlamydia, ureaplasma and Borrelia burgdorferi.

The active component of the drug inhibits the process of protein formation in the ribosome region, causing microbial cells to die.

Pharmacokinetics

The active substance is quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum level of the drug is observed after about 2-3 hours.

It enters into leukocyte cells, accumulating there. Together with leukocytes, it penetrates into the affected area, which is why a high level of azithromycin is observed in the inflamed area.

The half-life of the component is about 34-68 hours. The metabolism process occurs inside the liver.

Excretion of the drug - most of it is excreted in the bile, and a small amount of the substance is excreted in the urine.

Dosing and administration

The tablets are taken between meals (once a day). Chewing the tablet is prohibited. Dose sizes:

  • treatment of ENT diseases: single dose of 0.5 g of the drug per day. The course lasts 3 days;
  • initial stage of Lyme borreliosis: on the 1st day, you need to take 1 g of the drug, and then during the 2nd-5th days - 0.5 g per day. In total, the course lasts 5 days;
  • urethritis of infectious origin: single dose of 1 g of the drug. The course lasts only 1 day.

For children, the single dose is 10 mg/kg. The entire course lasts 3 days, and during this period, you need to take 30 mg/kg of the drug in total. There is also a scheme with a 5-day intake of the drug: on the 1st day - 10 mg/kg, and then in the interval of the 2nd-5th - 5-10 mg/kg.

If one dose is missed, it is recommended to take the next one at least 24 hours later.

Use Zithroxa during pregnancy

Zitrox should not be prescribed to pregnant women.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • the presence of hypersensitivity to the drug;
  • lactation period;
  • severe functional liver/renal lesions;
  • children under 3 years of age.

Side effects Zithroxa

The drug is fairly well tolerated and is considered safe for patients. The drug's side effects mainly affect the gastrointestinal tract - dyspeptic symptoms occur, and in addition, occasionally, problems with stool, anorexia, intestinal flatulence and liver problems. Among other disorders:

  • damage to the auditory organs: severe tinnitus and hearing loss (curable);
  • cardiac dysfunction: development of arrhythmia and prolongation of QT values;
  • CNS disorders: the appearance of headaches and fainting, sleep disorders or a feeling of drowsiness, as well as the development of asthenia;
  • allergy symptoms: the appearance of TEN or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, as well as urticaria or rashes;
  • Others: candidiasis or vaginitis are occasionally observed, and in addition, a decrease in the number of platelets.

Overdose

In case of intoxication with the drug, nausea and vomiting may occur, as well as temporary hearing loss and diarrhea.

To eliminate the disorders, it is necessary to take sorbents and undergo symptomatic therapy.

Interactions with other drugs

Caution is required when combining with drugs that prolong the QT interval.

Antacids reduce peak azithromycin levels (by 30%), so these medications must be taken with 2-hour intervals between doses.

Azithromycin affects the metabolic processes of cyclosporines, which increases the likelihood of adverse reactions.

Warfarin with coumarin-type anticoagulants when combined with Zitrox increases the risk of bleeding, and in addition increases the levels of PT.

In combination with the drug, the half-life of digoxin is extended, which further increases its medicinal activity and concentration.

Terfenadine should be combined with azithromycin with caution because its metabolism may be significantly altered.
