Sea buckthorn suppositories for thrush

Thrush, vaginal candidiasis or candidal vulvovaginitis is a fungal infection associated with the invasion of the syntropic yeast-like fungus Candida albicans into the vaginal mucosa, resulting in local inflammation.
One of the most common local therapy medications are suppositories (candles) with fungicides. Are sea buckthorn candles used for thrush?

Indications for the use of sea buckthorn suppositories
Sea buckthorn suppositories are never prescribed as the main therapeutic agent for thrush, as they are not antifungal agents. And sea buckthorn oil – unlike fir and cedar oils, juniper oil, thyme, amaranth or tea tree oil – does not have fungicidal or fungistatic properties.
The main indications for the use of sea buckthorn suppositories (rectal) include: hemorrhoids, cracks and ulcers of the rectum, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the rectum and sigmoid colon in ulcerative colitis. Vaginal suppositories with sea buckthorn oil can be used in cases of infectious inflammation of the vaginal mucosa (vaginitis or colpitis), erosion of the cervix, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the cervical canal, etc.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Without affecting the pathogenicity mechanism of the Candida fungus and without the ability to stop or slow down its induced endocytosis, sea buckthorn suppositories for thrush can only be an auxiliary remedy - anti-inflammatory, healing and regenerating the mucous membranes of the vagina.
This therapeutic effect is provided by a complex of biologically active substances contained in sea buckthorn oil. First of all, these are antioxidants - carotenoids (β-carotene, zeaxanthin and lycopene) and α-tocopherol and tocotrienols (vitamin E), as well as niacin (nicotinic acid) and pantothenic acid. The polyphenol flavonoid myricetin, being a cyclooxygenase blocker, reduces the intensity of inflammation and reduces swelling.
Sterols (β-sitosterol, etc.) and triterpene acids (ursolic and oleanolic) exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Unsaturated fatty acids (linolenic, linoleic, oleic, palmitoleic) contained in sea buckthorn oil stimulate cellular metabolism and accelerate the healing of damaged tissues. Sea buckthorn phenolic acids (p-coumaric, ferulic, ellagic) help phagocytes "utilize" mucous epithelial cells that have died as a result of fungal infection.
The pharmacokinetics of sea buckthorn suppositories are not presented by the manufacturers of this product.
How to use sea buckthorn suppositories for thrush
Vaginal suppositories with sea buckthorn oil should be inserted into the vagina (one suppository) once a day, at night. The duration of use is determined by the gynecologist depending on the condition of the vaginal mucous membranes.
An overdose of this drug is considered unlikely, and, according to the instructions, there have been no cases of overdose.
Contraindications for use and side effects
The only contraindication to the use of sea buckthorn suppositories for thrush is individual hypersensitivity to the components included in the suppositories (including auxiliary ones - antioxidant additives butylhydroxyanisole or butylhydroxytoluene).
The use of sea buckthorn suppositories for thrush during pregnancy is possible, but only as prescribed by a doctor.
The most likely side effects are a burning sensation after inserting the suppositories.

Interactions with other drugs
To date, it is unknown how sea buckthorn suppositories can interact with medications of other pharmacological groups.
Storage conditions: away from light and heat sources (t< +18-20°C).
The shelf life is 24 months.
