Riboxin is an anabolic drug with antihypoxic and antiarrhythmic effects.

Indications Riboxin

Complex treatment of ischemic heart disease (condition after myocardial infarction, angina pectoris), heart rhythm disorders, intoxication with cardiac glycosides, treatment of cardiomyopathies of various genesis, myocardiodystrophy (against the background of heavy physical exertion, infectious and endocrine genesis), myocarditis; liver diseases (hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver dystrophy); urokoproporphyria.

Release form

Coated tablets.

Basic physicochemical properties: yellow-colored, coated tablets with biconvex surface. Two layers are visible on the cross section.

Pharmacodynamics

It is a precursor of ATP, directly participates in glucose metabolism and contributes to the activation of metabolism under hypoxia and in the absence of ATP. The drug activates pyruvic acid metabolism to ensure the normal process of tissue respiration, and also contributes to the activation of xanthine dehydrogenase. Riboxin has a positive effect on myocardial metabolism, in particular, increases the energy balance of cells, stimulates the synthesis of nucleotides, increases the activity of a number of enzymes of the Krebs cycle. The drug normalizes contractile activity of myocardium and promotes more complete relaxation of myocardium in diastole due to the ability to bind calcium ions that entered the cells during excitation, activates tissue regeneration (especially myocardium and gastrointestinal mucosa).

Pharmacokinetics

Well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Metabolized in the liver with formation of glucuronic acid and its further oxidation. Excreted mainly with urine, in insignificant amounts - with feces and bile.

Dosing and administration

The drug is administered orally before meals, do not chew, drink enough water. The daily dose for adults is established by a doctor individually, the dose is 600-2400 mg per day. At the beginning of treatment usually the drug should be prescribed in a daily dose of 600-800 mg (1 tablet 3-4 times a day). If the drug is well tolerated, the dose is gradually increased (within 2-3 days) up to 1200 mg per day (2 tablets 3 times per day), if necessary - up to 2400 mg per day (4 tablets 3 times per day). Duration of the course of treatment - 1-3 months.

In urocoproporphyria the daily dose is 800 mg (1 tablet 4 times a day), duration of treatment - 1-3 months.
