Regidron has a hydrating effect.

trusted-source[ 1 ], [ 2 ], [ 3 ]

Indications Rehydrone

It is used to treat conditions that are associated with water-salt imbalance. The main disorders for which the medicine can be prescribed include:

  • the need to correct acidosis that occurs with diarrhea. Against the background of diarrhea, mild or moderate dehydration is observed (for example, for a child and an adult, the need to use drugs occurs when weight loss is 3-10%);
  • heat injuries caused by EBV imbalance;
  • desalination, which is dangerous for the body (while the chloride level in the urine is no more than 2 g/l).

For prevention, the medicine is used during thermal or physical stress, due to which severe sweating is observed (in these cases, the body loses weight at least 750 g/hour), and also in situations when during the working day a person loses at least 4 kg of weight.

Release form

The drug is released in the form of a powder, from which a liquid for oral use is made. The powder is packaged in 18.9 g sachets. There are 20 such sachets inside the box.

Pharmacodynamics

The medication is taken to restore the balance of electrolytes and fluids in the body during diarrhea or vomiting. Glucose, which is part of the drug, helps absorb salts with citrates, thereby maintaining metabolic acidosis.

The osmolarity level of the prepared solution is 260 mOsm/l. It has a slightly alkaline environment (pH 8.2). Compared with conventional solutions recommended by WHO for use in rehydration treatment, the drug has a lower osmolarity. The sodium level is also lower than that of other drugs of a similar type of action, and the potassium level is slightly higher.

There are many facts that confirm that the effectiveness of hypoosmolar substances is higher - a reduced sodium level helps prevent the occurrence of hypernatremia, and an increased potassium level helps to quickly restore the optimal values of this element.

Dosing and administration

Powder dilution scheme and mode of use of the drug.

The medication should be taken orally, at any time of the day, without regard to meal times.

To prepare the medicinal liquid, you need to dilute the powder in warm boiled water (the most suitable temperature is within 35-40°C). When treating the disorder, 2.39 g of the drug is dissolved in 0.1 l of liquid (half a glass). For 11.95 g of the substance, 0.5 l of water is required, and for 23.9 g - 1 l. For prevention, twice as much liquid is required to dilute the drug - 0.2, 1 and 2 l, respectively.

Scheme of drug use for an adult.

In case of mild diarrhea, the daily dosage portion is 40-50 ml/kg. In case of moderate diarrhea – 80-100 ml/kg. Therapy usually lasts 3-4 days. You can stop taking the medicine when the diarrhea stops.

Supportive measures to restore EBV levels and stop diarrhea include taking Regidron in a daily dose of 80-100 ml/kg.

During the first 6-10 hours, the patient should be given the drug in volumes that are twice the weight loss caused by the stomach upset. There is no need to consume other liquids at this stage of therapy.

If diarrhea continues after correction of dehydration, the patient needs to receive 8.3-27 liters of liquid in total during the day (a more accurate figure depends on the patient's weight). In addition to Regidron, other liquids and water are used to compensate for the body's need. The doctor selects the treatment regimen, taking into account the patient's weight and age.

If the patient experiences vomiting or nausea, it is recommended to drink chilled liquid in small, repeated portions. It is allowed to use a nasogastric tube, but rehydration should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor.

If the patient develops convulsions (heat-related or caused by drinking disease) and other EBV disorders, the drug should be taken in fractional portions (0.1-0.15 l). At the same time, during the first 30 minutes, the patient should drink 0.5-0.9 l of liquid containing rehydration salts.

Later, until the signs of heat stroke and water/salt deficiency disappear, the patient needs to consume a similar portion of the drug at intervals of 40 minutes.

To prevent the development of EBV disorders associated with very strong thermal/physical loads, the medicine is taken in small sips at the moment of thirst. The use should be stopped as soon as the symptoms of thirst are quenched.

Use of medication in case of intoxication.

In case of intoxication, the medicine should be taken without reference to food intake, with high frequency, in small sips (if you drink too much liquid at once, this can provoke new bouts of vomiting).

The dosage should be selected taking into account the patient's weight. For example, an adult patient weighing 80 kg should take 0.8 l of the substance (10 ml/kg) during the first 60 minutes.

If the patient's condition improves, the dose can be reduced to 5 ml/kg. If negative symptoms recur, the drug volume is increased to the initial level.

Diluting powder for use by a child.

In this case, the contents of 1 packet of the medicine are dissolved in boiled water, which was previously cooled to body temperature (1 l). For small children with diarrhea, the medicine should be dissolved with more water - to reduce the sodium content in the finished liquid.

The prepared medicine can be stored for 24 hours (it must be kept in the refrigerator).

The drug should be taken in small sips after each case of loose stools.

Mixing Regidron solution with other medications or diluting it in any other liquid except water is prohibited.

Scheme of drug use for children.

Before starting therapy, the child should be weighed to assess weight loss and the severity of dehydration.

There is no need to interrupt feeding or breastfeeding during the use of the drug (or they are resumed immediately after the end of the rehydration procedures). During the period of therapy, it is necessary to exclude products containing large amounts of fats and simple carbohydrates from the child's diet.

The medication should be used immediately after the child's diarrhea begins. The therapy should be carried out for 3-4 days until the stool returns to normal.

During the first 10 hours, the medicine should be taken in a dose of 30-60 ml/kg (taking into account the degree of dehydration). On average, the children's dosage is 2-3 tablespoons per 1 kg of weight. After the manifestations of dehydration have weakened, the dose may be reduced to 10 ml/kg.

Small children and newborns are given 5-10 ml of liquid during the first 4-6 hours, at intervals of 5-10 minutes.

If a child is vomiting, it is necessary to give him chilled medicine.

During rehydration treatment for infections affecting the gastrointestinal tract, it is necessary to exclude large amounts of food and drink from the child's diet. If the patient wants to eat, he should be given light, low-fat dishes.

Use Rehydrone during pregnancy

Regidron can be prescribed to pregnant or lactating mothers in recommended doses.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • intestinal blockage;
  • the patient is in an unconscious state;
  • problems with kidney function;
  • diarrhea caused by the development of cholera;
  • the presence of intolerance to the elements of Regidron.

Caution is required when prescribing to individuals with diabetes mellitus (type 1 or 2).

Side effects Rehydrone

When taking the medicine in accordance with the instructions, the risk of adverse effects is unlikely. Possible side effects include the occurrence of hypersensitivity.

In people with normal renal function, the likelihood of developing hypernatremia or water intoxication when using the drug is very low.

Administering the medication at too high a rate may cause vomiting.

trusted-source[ 15 ], [ 16 ], [ 17 ], [ 18 ], [ 19 ]

Overdose

Using too concentrated a liquid or taking the drug in too high a dose increases the likelihood of hypernatremia. People with impaired renal function may experience metabolic alkalosis and hyperkalemia.

Symptoms of hypernatremia include: confusion, drowsiness and weakness, neuromuscular agitation, respiratory arrest and coma.

Signs of metabolic alkalosis: excitation of a neuromuscular nature, tetanic seizures and deterioration of pulmonary ventilation.

In case of severe intoxication, against the background of which there are highly intense manifestations of hypernatremia or metabolic alkalosis, it is necessary to stop taking Regidron. Subsequent therapy is carried out taking into account laboratory test data.

Application for children

The medication is prescribed to children if there is a risk of dehydration. Such a disorder may occur due to severe diarrhea or vomiting, which occur due to infections developing inside the gastrointestinal tract, or due to heat stroke.

But if the child has watery stools mixed with blood, the temperature has risen above 39°C, he looks exhausted, lethargic and very sleepy, and in addition to this, he has severe pain inside the peritoneum and bouts of diarrhea/vomiting more than 5 times a day, then you should immediately contact a doctor.

Reviews

Regidron is an effective and easy-to-use medication that helps prevent dehydration due to diarrhea or vomiting. Many people's reviews note that this medication should be in everyone's medicine cabinet.

The only drawback of the drug is its rather specific taste. This is especially important when it is necessary to use the drug to treat a child - it is quite difficult to persuade him to drink at least part of the required portion.

Because of this, instead of Regidron for children, it is often recommended to buy similar medicines that have a more pleasant taste (such as Regidron Optimum - this medicine contains lemon flavoring, and at the same time it has a different concentration of active ingredients).
