Pectolvan Stop is a medicinal substance from the medicinal subgroup of antitussive drugs.

This complex product includes 2 main active elements, the combination of which leads to the development of effective therapeutic properties - antitussive, mucolytic, and expectorant. The drug is often used to treat unproductive dry cough, which develops with various colds. It has high therapeutic activity.

Indications Pectolvana Stop

It is used to eliminate attacks of irritating and obsessive unproductive cough, which has a variety of etiologies.

In addition, the medication may be prescribed before and after surgical procedures to prevent the development of cough.

Release form

The element is released in the form of oral drops, inside glass bottles with a capacity of 25 ml.

Pharmacodynamics

Butamirate citrate is a component that has antitussive activity. At the same time, it has a peripheral effect. This substance does not suppress the activity of the respiratory center and does not lead to the development of addiction when used.

At the same time, guaifenesin complements the effect of butamirate, leading to the development of expectorant activity. The element activates the secretion production inside the bronchial glands, significantly reduces the viscosity of sputum, and also helps improve its excretion from the body.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking the drops orally, there is a rapid and complete absorption of butamirate citrate. The synthesis of the component with plasma protein is 98%.

After passing the metabolic processes, 2 metabolic elements are formed, which have antitussive activity. Over 90% of the component is excreted by the kidneys, and the remainder is excreted by the intestines. The half-life is approximately 6 hours.

Guaifenesin is excreted from the gastrointestinal tract at a very high rate. A small portion of the substance is synthesized with intraplasmic blood protein. It is excreted in the form of metabolic components through the kidneys; only a small portion of guaifenesin is excreted unchanged. The half-life of the element is 60 minutes.

Dosing and administration

The medicine should be taken orally, immediately after eating. A portion of drops should be dissolved in some liquid (portion 0.05-0.1 l) before oral administration. Plain water, compote or tea can be used as a solvent.

There should be a 4-6 hour interval between doses of the medicine. The drops should be taken 3 times a day. The portion size is selected based on the patient's weight:

  • less than 7 kg – 8 drops;
  • within 7-12 kg – 9 drops;
  • in the range of 12-30 kg – 14 drops;
  • weight 30-40 kg – 16 drops;
  • weight 40-50 kg – 25 drops;
  • in the range of 50-70 kg – 30 drops;
  • within 70-90 kg – 40 drops.

To increase the effectiveness of the therapeutic effect of the drug, it is allowed to dissolve the substance using large volumes of liquid.

When prescribing drugs to children weighing less than 7 kg, the portion size is reduced.

The duration of use of the medicine is 1 week. Further use of Pectolvan Stop can only be prescribed by a doctor after a preliminary examination.

Interactions with other drugs

Guaifenesin can potentiate the analgesic effect of paracetamol with aspirin. In addition, the component increases the intensity of the effect exerted on the body by ethyl alcohol and drugs that suppress the function of the central nervous system.

Increased intensity and frequency of side effects of guaifenesin (eg, muscle weakness) occurs when combined with muscle relaxants.

Exposure to guaifenesin may cause a false-positive reaction in tests that detect the presence of VMC in urine and 5-HIAA. Therefore, the drug should be discontinued 2 days before performing this test.

Positive reviews about the drug are also left by adults who used it. Thanks to the drops, a dry cough turns into a productive one, and at the same time, sputum secretion is activated.

One of the disadvantages is the unpleasant taste of the medicine, which is why children sometimes do not want to take it.
